'That boy's finger does not need to be on the button'(Rep. Geoff Davis)
Politico ^ | April 14, 2008 | Ben Smith

Posted on 04/14/2008 1:15:10 PM PDT by RDTF

U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis, a Hebron Republican, compared Obama and his message for change similar to a "snake oil salesman" [at a Northern Kentucky Lincoln Day dinner].

He said in his remarks at the GOP dinner that he also recently participated in a "highly classified, national security simulation" with Obama.

"I'm going to tell you something: That boy's finger does not need to be on the button," Davis said. "He could not make a decision in that simulation that related to a nuclear threat to this country."

"As a typical white person, I just don’t understand...is “boy” shorthand for “typical black person”?"

No. One state to your southern border, it's used as a colorblind collegial term -- although it is meant in the strongest possible way when spoken with an edge.

Derived from the colloquial 'old boy' or 'dear boy' -- think late-period Victorian-era Arthur Conan Doyle British. Ky has imported much Anglophilia on the cheap -- idioms, manners, customs -- viz the Thoroughbred industry.

Oh brother. Here in the South, I’ve heard white men refer to each other as boys (instead of guys and when in the same age range)

Exactly. In the South (these days), "boy" is not a racist epithet ... example, "he's a good ol' boy."

But I'm sure there will be an outcry. This whole race thing has gotten ludicrous and tiresome. And my, isn't Obama doing a good job of healing racial divisions? Heh.

You buy into PC bullsh*t, I see.

I buy into not calling people names they don't like unless I intend to insult them. That's not PC bullsh*t, it's common courtesy.

Of course, Obama’s camp has to be careful of making a big deal of this. Every mention of it is giving airplay to the Congressman’s point that Obama doesn’t belong in the Presidency ... and that he was clueless during a nuclear attack simulation.

I hope Biff, Barry, Osama takes the bait on this and hammers him on it.

If so, then he falls into the trap and we get to ask him why it would not cause him any sort of discomfort of the mind if, in the process of black nationalization, a few will meaning white people get hurt.

He actually wrote this in his book. If he wants to address the ‘boy’ in this remark, and not the glaring fact that Hussein can’t make a decision when the balloon goes up, then he’s going to get wallup’d.

Somebody will draw him in on the ‘boy’ thing, and then ask him about the allegation that he’s a spaz behind the trigger.

It would be a shame, after all, if he really did hate America after having become the National Command Authority. Secret Service can’t exactly pry the football out of his hands and fake his credentials in the event of nuclear war, should he decide retaliation wouldn’t serve any useful purpose.

If you think his remarks make him a bigot I think you would be more comfortable over on DailyKos.

If most of the people on this forum think like you, I'll certainly be leaving, though not for DailyKos - I'm sure there are reasonable conservative forums where bigotry is recognized when seen. Davis is a bigot - no one goes around calling an adult black man "boy" unless he's got a problem with adult black men in general.

Davis' remarks also make him a fool who is actively helping Obama avoid attention for his own remarks.

And when the sports talk stations say “your boy went 0 for 5 last night” referring to A-Rod or some other ballplayer, or when people use the term “good old boys” or “old boy’s network”, or when they say such and such was a “whipping boy” or they had a “boys night out”, or when hip hoppers say “your boy” this and “your boy” that constantly we should demand apologies?

Get real.

The burning news cycle today, if you can believe this, is the Sec'y of State pulled the plug on Operation Chaos in the Hillbilly State, by invoking the blue law that sez you can't vote in either primary, ie, you can't vote in the one you switched to or from, if you change your party affiliation after Jan. 1. And the Rushbite on this from today's show is everywhere.

Because our primary isn't until May 20th, I checked to see if I could change my party affiliation. The SOS website was quite clear that you could only vote for your "new" party if the change was made before Dec 31.

It's a shame that people leaped before they looked.

Context is everything. In many cases, "boy" isn't an epithet. But in some cases, it clearly is. There was actually a recent Supreme Court decision (from the Roberts Court) that held in part that "boy" ia a racial epithet in certain circumstances.

Whether this is one of them or not, it will clearly be interpreted as such.

I don’t care what the courts say. They can shover their PC nonsense up their rear ends.

Context is everything.

This is exactly right. The word "boy" when applied by whites to black men has a long, well-documented history and it's meaning is understood to be offensive. We're not talking about "boys" in your son's Little League team or "boy, is it hot out there" or "my boys and I are going out for a night on the town". We're talking about "boy" as used to insult a black man.

Yeah, well.

Now we get 7 days in the news cycle of faux-outrage over this.

Oh, man (see, I didn’t use the b-word). It may have just slipped out, but this will leave a mark. Not to mention the 24/7 liberal media outrage machine will be going full tilt.

I don’t care what the courts say. They can shover their PC nonsense up their rear ends.

So you're going to address a 46 year old black man as "boy?" Forget PC or not PC, that's just uncivil. It's really no different than addressing him as "Sambo."

Is that so? Google “your boy” and “that boy” and see the thousands of times it has been used recently in normal conversations. Of course, if you got the vapors about this congressmen using it, I guess I really could care less what you think.

If you think his remarks make him a bigot I think you would be more comfortable over on DailyKos.

Several on this thread qualify for that. They run in packs (same ol bunch yo) on race threads always saying the same shite: "Someone Republican and/or many FReepers are racist"

I think they are agent provocateurs just looking to stir stuff up as resident "_____ " Republicans
