COURIC'S FALL HURT US ALL (overpaid fluff ball with no testosterone gravitas)
NY POST ^ | April 11, 2008 | ANDREA PEYSER

Posted on 04/11/2008 2:43:55 AM PDT by Liz

One wonders why, in its giddiness to lure in Katie Couric as its news babe, CBS threw away all common sense. Since the dawn of television, men have dominated network news for obvious reasons. Their voices are lower and they rarely display middle-aged gams. This amalgam of testosterone and primness has helped even an outright buffoon like Dan Rather to do a convincing imitation of gravitas. Even the network's trick of sending Katie to Iraq failed to rope in a single viewer. But much has been lost beyond the handsome salary. Now, putting another female into Katie's position will look like a stunt. And a stunt that failed miserably the first time around. Talent, not affirmative action, will save CBS News.

Way back when Couric first signed her deal with CBS, I read an article in a media business journal in which the author made the case that CBS really didn't have the ratings for their evening news in mind when they signed her. Their primary objective in signing her was to get her away from NBC so that CBS could make a dent in NBC's ratings for the "Today" show.

I wouldn't be surprised if this were the case. Those early AM shows are probably a far more lucrative market for the networks than their evening news.

Couric's Fall Hurt Us All?

I think the writers of the Times need to get a grip.

I am just fine with her fall.

To pay Katie her king's ransom, CBS reportedly cut the salaries of network stalwarts such as Lesley Stahl, a female veteran with far better news chops.

Ouch! I never heard that before. No wonder Perky Katie has no friends in the CBS newsroom.

Having an avowed liberal fail at spinning the news does not hurt us all. The fact that she is an avowed female news spinner is rather secondary. It is the pattern of having spin-the-news anchors fail that is refreshing for many.

The remarkable accomplishment of CBS this past decade is to equal or even surpass CNN as the most prominent fake news source. So it is appropriate they might merge. Then they can both fake the news more efficiently.

Sorry for Katie that it is not all about her. But perhaps that is reassuring under the circumstances.

Hey, this past weekend I saw Elizabeth doing a show on the History Channel about Jesus. It was very good. She was very classy and respectful.

And, these panders of sexist victimization NEVER raise their voices against the barbaric treatment of women living under the yoke of Islam.

Can you say hypocritical?

.....jeannie moos over at cnn......

She is proof that it is not necessary to be blonde and blue eyed and beautiful to be a news babe. It is merely necessary to be blonde and blue eyed

Never watched her either. This chatter portrays her as a tragic/comic character. Perhaps she has a future on Comedy central.

Oh Gosh that was funny...and to think the owner of the big shoes was the basis for the character Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show. They should all be clown shoes.

Talent, not affirmative action, will save CBS News.

Actually, fair and truthful reporting would save CBS, but there's not a snowball's chance we'll see it.
