One wonders why, in its giddiness to lure in Katie Couric as its news babe, CBS threw away all common sense. Since the dawn of television, men have dominated network news for obvious reasons. Their voices are lower and they rarely display middle-aged gams. This amalgam of testosterone and primness has helped even an outright buffoon like Dan Rather to do a convincing imitation of gravitas. Even the network's trick of sending Katie to Iraq failed to rope in a single viewer. But much has been lost beyond the handsome salary. Now, putting another female into Katie's position will look like a stunt. And a stunt that failed miserably the first time around. Talent, not affirmative action, will save CBS News.

Finally, someone at CBS told Couric, " I think viewers just want you to relay the news of the day."
Duh.
She’s still around?????
I’m pleased to say that I have never watched her, even once.
Read: How can we blame this on White Males?
Couric herself has bemoaned the format of the nightly news. What the heck did she expect? To be able to do her perky show on the news?
COURIC’S FALL HURT US ALL
Who did she fall on!!!!!!!!!
I wonder why no one at CBS and no one here on FR was able to see at the outset that Katie would be a huge failure at this. Oh, that’s right, EVERYONE here at FR knew that this was going to be a monumental failure. It would be fund to dig up the links to some of those old Katie threads and email them to CBS.
Ditto.
Les Moonves has faith in Bondo TM
I can picture a certain type of woman that I would be pleased to watch deliver the news. Katie is not of that type.
cBS really wanted Lucy Ramirez...
Oh no, please leave po’ little Katie alone...CBC, NBC, ABC where overpaid Affirmative Action, Progressive, braindead reportees go to die!
SWEET!
I watched her first few shows. She changed the format to about ten minutes of news and twenty minutes of feel-good fluff. It didn't work.
COURIC’S FALL HURT US ALL (overpaid fluff ball with no testosterone gravitas)....
“We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who comes on at five
She can tell you ‘bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye
It’s interesting when people die- Give us dirty laundry”
yup....this lib/dem dope’s fall....is going to hurt us all..
Not if they could lure Elizabeth Vargas away from ABC. IMHO, Elizabeth does a great job.
Maybe she can get a job on The View.
WAIT! What the heck am I thinking?!
Actually when NN first started I didn't think it was too bad. It was a gimmick, but the very first newscasts were pretty much just news, sports and weather and fairly balanced. Then the downward spiral began. Haven't watched for a LONG time.

Couric is 51, well past her freshness date. She got the job being perky. She isn’t now. It’s that simple.
well i watched it because i think train wrecks in slow motion are fascinating......in addition, i found those ‘katy’s notebook’ segments very enjoyable..i don’t know who wrote them for her but they were corkers; ....preachy yet airy...pithy on the one hand, loose on the other. The little woman and I looked forward to them each and every evening. And i will say this: not since the good book has our republic been treated to such powerful, life enhancing nay...may i say, life GUIDING viginettes.
In closing, let me aks you cynics a question....who will step UP to guide the nation now? To whom does AMERICA turn it’s lonely eyes? barack obama? i think NOT.
I, for one, am sorry for her passing...and i bet if the news suits ever teamed katy up with that jeannie moos over at cnn.....nobody but nobody could stop that hard news express-train-team and i bet there’d be no train wrecks either. i reserve the balance of my time.
