A Defense Department analyst pleaded guilty Monday to charges alleging he gave classified information about U.S. and Taiwanese military communications systems to a businessman working with the Chinese government.

Gregg Bergersen, a weapons analyst at the Defense Security Cooperation Agency who held top secret security clearances, was arrested last month. Prosecutors alleged he divulged military secrets to a New Orleans furniture salesman, Tai Kuo, who turned over the information to the Chinese government.

Oh but I’m very sure when they gave him his security clearance they made double sure that he didn’t smoke marijuana. Idiots.

Somehow this is related to Bush's post-Katrina genocide. /sarc

Interesting point you made- I'm more concerned about people getting clearances with very liberal leanings. Some outright socialists and it really has an impact on "how" information is analyzed/synthesized.

Time to start executing those found guilty of espionage...citizens and non-citizens alike.

Joe McCarthy showed us how to do it. And Anne Coulter thinks Joe a hero. I tend to agree with her.

So UNO? I think that evidence of patriotism through activity is not a requirement that needs to be abandoned. Security Clearances are too ACLU driven, and in some cases such review might as well be non existent.

For example , take a look at the DoD Deputy Secretary's Aid : Hesham Islam ( google it). Its amazing that he has a security clearance, because his background story is blatant fiction. He is an Islamofascist Mole inside the very agency that makes our military policy. The FBI discovered the lies in his background story, but as far as I know, he is still working in the same office, Dep. Sec. Englands. His job is to liaise with Muslim Groups , to let them know that they are welcome by the US Military. The Muslim Brotherhood is one of Isham's contact Organizations, the very same one being sued by the Federal Government.

There is no real security clearance any more. Whether security clearance is given depends on what your politics are, and whether they are the same as your Security Vetters.

Joseph McCarthy would clean house. Its badly needed.

Do you know that a Special Assistant for International Affairs to the Deputy Secretary of Defense has a security clearance? Or are you just assuming that anyone with that kind of title has one?

Hi Rhombus. I am assuming he has one simply because he comes from the US Navy as a line officer, and he likely would have had one there. The FBI questioned his backgroud story which is basically imaginary.

He's still in place as far as I know.

There’s clearances and then there’s clearances. There’s a huge difference between a Secret clearance and a Top Secret clearance for example.

How right you are. There is also quite a difference in “need to know” and hopefully that is being taken seriously.
