Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama suggested Wednesday that Jesus Christ is not the only way to heaven during a campaign event in North Carolina.
While answering a question about his Christian faith, Obama said he believes that Jesus Christ died for his sins and through Gods grace and mercy he could have everlasting life, according to the Los Angeles Times.
But he also believes Jews and Muslims and non-believers who live moral lives are as much children of God as he is, according to The Associated Press.
As an example, he spoke about his late mother who was not a believer.
"[S]he was the kindest, most decent, generous person that I have ever known," Obama said, according to the Times. "I'm sure she is in heaven, even though she may not have subscribed to everything that I subscribe to."
Obamas response amid the recent controversy surrounding his former Chicago pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who made inflammatory remarks about race and America in sermons he delivered many years ago.
The Illinois senator, who has made religion a cornerstone of his campaign, has denounced the comments which included God damn America for its racism but refuses to distance himself from the pastor, whom he compares to an uncle.
During his response on Wednesday, Obama praised his church, Trinity United Church of Christ, especially its choir, and said it was very warm and welcoming and is like any other church in America in that it exists to praise God.

"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders."

Now that was funny!
Amen!!!!
Its a cover story. Allah is not the God of Abraham.
The fruits of his actions bear witness that he was not, nor did he know his scriptures. Jesus expressly commanded his followers to "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;" in Matthew 5:44, and in Romans 12:19 we are told to "Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord.".
Like Satan, the false messiah Hitler misquoted scripture to deceive, and sound scriptural to those that did not know or read for themselves. Read Genesis 3, and see the master at his game in the garden. Same game, different players. Satan asked Eve about the fruit, and she misquoted God's command. He never said they could not touch the fruit, only that they could not eat it! Because she was unfamiliar with the scripture, she was easily deceived. Because the Germans were not familiar with the scripture, they took Hitler's words and "quotations" as truth!
BTW, regarding deception, this old world aint seen nuthin yet!
Thank you for that.
My statement wasn't really based on a faulty assumption because I fully understand the theological argument. And I don't disagree with you, except at the margins.
But they're big margins.
There have been a lot of people born on this planet who never had the opportunity to read the scripture, either before Jesus and even after. So you can't test their faith on something they never had a chance to believe.
You can take a tough approach and say they all go to hell. Or you can say that some were really good people who never even had the opportunity to have faith in the messiah or Jesus.
But that really opens the door theologically. If you can achieve salvation without ever even hearing of the concept of the plan of salvation, what's the point of the plan?
I can't answer these questions, and so far, nobody else has answered them to my satisfaction, either.
In the overall picture, it probably shouldn't matter to me. I know what I know. I believe what I believe. God can figure the rest of the stuff out.
That no man may come to the Father but through Christ, does not preclude God choosing to to extend his mercy in an unprecedented way. Deny this if you wish.
I heard Michael Medved saying the same thing.
They better get straightened out or they might be burning in hell together.
Not sure I follow. I inferred from your post that you thought God could offer another plan of salvation that did not require the intercessory work of Christ, and using Him as the door. If there was another way, why would God put Jesus through the torment of the cross, one should wonder. For Acts 4:12 states "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."
Other than your belief in the divine sovereignty of God, can you quote a scripture to support the position that the Father may choose another method of reconciliation?
He goes even further - he believes that if the baby manages - as they sometime do - to survive the abortion horror - that they should then just be put aside and let die, and they do - as the mother didn't want it to be born.
Do tell. Almighty, may I ask your path to redemption?
“Well, that answers that - Barry is not a the born again Christian he claims.”

As Gomer Pyle might have said, “SUUUURRRRRPRISE, SUUURRRPRISE”! I am about as surprised as I was when the sun rose in the East this morning.
Since you asked for my advice, I’ll give you some - turn your life over to Jesus Christ. Follow the example of President Bush, not Obama or Medved.
John 3:16-18 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."
Read this in you own Bible. You must now make up your mind, is it true, false, or misleadingly incomplete? It appears Obamaramadama believe the latter of the 3, thus causing a true believer to question his Christian credentials. FWIW, GWB has said we all pray to the same God (Christians, Jews, Muzzies) and he's wrong on that as well!
There are some mentioned on this thread, but it's more of a pattern than this particular thread. I've been at FR for a number of years, so I'm used to being insulted or at least disparaged for not being a cheerleader.
I think theological questions are still open to debate. Most here don't.
I was born between my mother's legs, and attaching some "above" stuff must be code word for something I don't know and probably would reject. I don't know what you're talking about.
Apokatastasis.
That is a slippery slope. I stopped asking myself why God might do this or that long ago. God does what he does because He is God. He, and He alone, defines what is right and what is good.
This is a hypothetical discussion about whether or not God may offer salvation to a Jew or a Hindu. Certainly God may.
