You show how ridiculous FR has become as of late. Not really trying to single you out, it’s the irreconcilable contradictions in some of the more pro-military populists that fill this forum.

Sabrin has his own narrative, own history, and own positions, his only connection to Ron Paul comes THROUGH a connection that FreeRepublic.com’s management is also a member, that being the Republican Liberty Caucus.

I’ve known Professor Sabrin for 10 years now, he’s well worth your support, he has the added ability to bring together a multitude of camps in NJ, his spokesman in this article is a leader in the Lebanese/Syrian Arab community in NJ, Murray Sabrin is the son of Holocaust survivors, he also has support of African American pastors who preach self-reliance in NJ, he brings in Orthodox and Conservadox Jewish Yeshivas and their rabbis and synagogues, and the sizeable Arab-American Republican voting block in NJ.

Granted that Murray takes some positions that are libertarian and not national Republican, but...

he is pro-life from the point of conception,

he is incredibly strong on the 2nd Amendment, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Organization founder has personally flown out to NJ to support Sabrin in his 1999 Governorship campaign. Aaron Zelman currently supports Sabrin’s Sentaroial campaign.

he is a top notch professor of economics, I took his courses, he is also very aware of the use of trade agreements regarding economic activity of oppressive regimes. Sabrin understands tax policy, I’ve seen him rail against the IRS and accounting bureaucracy myself,

he is someone who can win NJ if the Presidential campaign is McCain vs Obama. Murray can draw on a base of independents as large as the number of registered Republicans in the state.

I’m sure that Murray Sabrin is a fine man, but that doesn’t make him a viable candidate. And the Ron Paul connection is the only thing he’s known for.

Just so we’re all clear, the document was written by a “Joseph Penn,” which I assume was Pennacchio’s way of shortening his name back then. If this wasn’t written by Pennacchio, we would have heard something by now.

I leafed through it, and it sounds like the work of a young idealist who thinks he can solve the world’s problems but didn’t really think things through. I read the homeless section, which apparently is the most controversial, and while his proposal is completely unworkable and downright stupid, it is by no means fascist or eugenicist or anything of the sort. His section on abortion showed him as a supporter of RU-486 as a “middle ground” position that could appease both pro-aborts and pro-lifers (which is absurd, of course), but Pennacchio by al laccounts has had a solidly pro-life record in the legislature, and we should remember that, for example, 21st Century conservative icon Pat Toomey had much more pro-abortion positions nearly a decade after Pennacchio wrote the document.

I think Pennacchio needs to explain how his views have evolved since he wrote that, and he should be alright (and he’d certainly be preferable to a Ron Paulite candidate). If Lautenberg brings up the 1991 document, he can always say “of course Lautenberg wants to talk about stuff from 17 years ago-—he hasn’t done anything productive in the Senate in over a decade.”

Ron Paul is also pro-life from the moment of conception, very strong on 2nd Amendment issues and an economic conservative. And Sabrin’s connection to Ron Paul is much stronger than merely being a fellow member of the Republican Liberty Caucus: Sabrin is the leader of the Paul presidential campaign in New Jersey, and Paul endorses Sabrin’s Senate run (and is the Honorary Chairman of Sabrin’s campaign). If you Google “Murray Sabin,” you get 8,700 hits, but if you Google “Murray Sabin” and “Ron Paul” together you get 5,600 hits, so 64% of Sabrin’s Google hits are related to Ron Paul. Those two are more closely linked than Bert and Ernie.

This is a great Michelle Malkin article on what conservatives should do now .... “Quo vadis Conservatives?”

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=24912

We need to find good conservative candidates and SUPPORT them.

I dont know Sabrin, but any prof of economics gets my support. Since Gramm and Armey left the Congress, we’ve seen some dumb and wacky things happen and I sadly see, like with this lame ‘stimulus package’ which is nothing but a $100 billion welfareist giveaway, Republicans falling for it.

My point is - I dont know Sabrin, but if you know him as a good conservative, go ahead and support the heck out of him.
We ALL need to be finding our favorite cosnervative candidates and helping them out!

It looks like for a race when you’re already an underdog it spells the end.

There’s some fruity big-gubmint “conservatism” in there. And change the color of money? What if I find a 100 k in my grandma’s mattress and don’t want to tell the IRS? I hope he “evolved” past most of that.

“Joseph Penn” is a dangerous lunatic who should be forced off the stage.

That isn't true. Murray Sabrin was Ron Paul's official surrogate at a GOPUSA-NJ hosted Presidential Round Table.

OK, I freely admit I hadn’t paid attention to the Ron Paul cmapaign in NJ, wasn’t aware that Sabrin was part of it, was only aware that Ajjan was.

I don’t think the connection is a disqualifier, but is indeed a name recognition hurdle.

I don’t think Sabrin would be as known as he is if it wasn’t for Ron Paul’s coat tails.

Where’s Tom Kean? Ready to try again?

Kean is a non-starter. Just another elitist liberal hack trying to get elected with conservative votes.

I say we give Bret Schunder another shot. He deserves it.

I am still angry at the NJ Republican party for the way they treated Bret Schunder.

When they called for money to support NJ candidates, I told them I no longer give to the state party but individual candidates.

I also told them why.

Wow, that was, uh, interesting to read. I skimmed through it. Some of his points made sense (such as the line-item veto), but then others were almost frightening.

For example, I see he also called for an "amendment eliminating the electoral college and allowing a direct vote for President." (p. 14)

Of course, this was written 17 years ago. A person's views can change over time. I know mine have.

But, the name of the party hurts him, too. "The Nationalist Party" sounds too much like the "National Socialist Germany Worker Party" or the neo-Nazi "Nationalist Party" of the USA or the "National Party" which was a socialist party.

I think the lesson here is to be careful about what you put in writing.
