Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission officials were rattled Thursday by the discovery of over 400 bottles of illegal booze, each containing a 10-inch rattlesnake in the bottle, the Texas Star-Telegram reported.
After receiving a tip several weeks ago, TABC agents raided Bayou Bobs Brazos River Rattlesnake Ranch in Palo Pinto County after the reptile-infused vodka was sold to undercover agents, the paper reported. 411 bottles of the serpent sauce were seized.
In my 20 years with the TABC, Ive never seen anything like it, Sgt. Charlie Cloud told the Star-Telegram.
TABC officials told the Star-Telegram that they plan to file charges next week for the sale of alcohol without a permit and possession of alcohol with the intent to sell. Penalties for those charges include up to a year in the county jail and fines up to $1,000 upon conviction.
Infusing alcohol with snakes or scorpions is believed to possess aphrodisiac properties, TABC officials told the paper. The practice, in which alcohol is poured over the body of a snake or scorpion, is popular in Asian cultures.

Wife went to China a few years ago... She told me that in the South they offer Snakeshead Wine in the restaurants; i.e., a bottle of white wine with a real snake’s head in it. Nobody in her group ever had the guts to try it. Can’t say I blame ‘em.
Rattlesnake Shake!
Then, I've been told here on FR...
it taste like John eFing Kerry's old lady.
I mean, that's way we did it in all our rattlesnake huntin expeditions. After you apply the vodka detox for a few small rattler hits, a big ‘ol six footer can nail you and it dont faze you hardly at all ;)
Pretty sick if you asked me, and I don’t care if you didn’t.

Hebishochu. I’ve had some, and it’s OK. I asked the guy at the local bar how to make it: Catch one small poisonous snake (either mamushi or habu, both are pit vipers), and put it in a bucket of water, so that it has to swim all of the time. Change the water everyday. If the water remains cloudy after keeping it for a month, continue to change the water for another two weeks. If still cloudy, throw the snake away and start over. After 30 days, fill up to the top a wide-mouth jar with shochu (white liquor made from various things, such as sugar cane, sweet potato, barley, etc, depending where you are), drop in the snake, and screw the lid on. If the snake stops moving in a very short time, it’s OK. If it lasts for more than just a few minutes, you’ve got to start all over. Apparently, if it struggles, there’s a chance it will release too much toxin into the shochu. Let sit for at least week (in a cooler is best), and then put in your prettiest bottle. Then, whenever you’re feeling particularly down, give yourself a small tot. I’m sure that the $7/small shot he charged cheered him up, too.
Of drunks and aphrodisiacs....

That was the word I was trying to remember! Never tried it myself, actually. Never tried fugu, either. Call me a coward but there’s that little death thingy...
Man those are REALLY small bottles... I was expecting something a bit bigger! LOL
I think it’s for the tourists:’)

Yep, looks like 1/2 pints to me.... Novelity sale item I’d guess to take home and display. Or at least that would be the extent of it for me.
Yeah. He should have put a novelty, not for consumption sticker on it. A man finds a creative way to make a living and get rid of snakes and look what happens. Why don’t they just leave us alone?

Woah - that’s about the gnarliest thing I’ve ever seen. Please tell me you have never consumed any of that!
Actually it was two days ago on the 16th.....
8^)
Wow, that’s a great improvement over the traditional worm in the bottle of Mexican tequila. People have fought over getting the eat the 100% proof worm at the bottem of the tequila bottle and a little vodka-soaked rattlesnake would be even better if you’re into that sort of thing.
wacky!
