From the pews of Trinity United Church of Christ
Swamp Politics ^ | March 14, 2008 | Mark Silva

Posted on 03/14/2008 8:06:12 PM PDT by bahblahbah

So much controversy surrounds the church where Barack Obama has worshipped for two decades, the church whose retiring pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, has stirred a storm with his words about power in America -- words which Obama himself decried today as "appalling.''

So much of the racial divide that remains in America is reopened with debates over these words, followed by renunciations and demands for even greater repudiation, that it's refreshing to hear some words of common sense rising through clouds of polarizing venom.

These words come from the congregation tonight. As the torch passes at Trinity United Church of Christ -- with the Rev. Wright's retirement and the ascension of the Rev. Otis Moss III, and with Obama repudiating the harshest words of the outgoing pastor while insisting that he and his family will remain as members -- another longtime member writes to the Swamp this evening to offer another perspective on the controversy that has enveloped the church.

"I am an African American who is very proud to say that I am a member of Trinity United Church of Christ,'' writes "BLH,'' in a posting on Obama and the retiring pastor below. "I have been a member for 30 years.

"I was in church that Sunday after 9/11. Our church seats about 8,000 people and we have 3 services; 7:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Non-blacks do attend our church. However, we are located in a predominantly African-American neighborhood.

"On that Sunday people were standing against the wall and in the halls. People were still scared and shocked by what happened. Rev Wright's words may seem rascist to people who look at this world through rose colored glasses. You are the same people who think that the USA is the superior country and for some of you that white America is the superior race. That is sad.

"The United States of America became a powerful nation on the backs of free labor; slavery. 400 years later the effects of that, Jim Crow laws and discrimination still exist. You can see it in the disparity between our public schools and the widening gap in this country between the haves and have nots.

"I am well educated. I have a BS in Accounting for the Univesity of Illinois and I have an MBA from Northwestern University. However, in this country the fact that I am not white and male will limit my opportunities. This is not racist. This is the truth.

"Trinity United Church of Christ promotes the positiveness of being black in this country because everyday we see images that say otherwise. White churches don't have to do that because being white in this country is already seen as being a plus.

"You might not agree with what Rev. Wright said. I rarely agree with anyone 100 percent of the time. However, the USA has not been an innocent. It has not been "right" all of the time. The minute someone points that out they are seen as being un-American.''

Say Amen.

Only if we force the truth on the morons that make up the general public. Do you think all these starry eyed Obama freaks will pay any attention to this hate monger and Obama’s connection to him?

Everyone should also keep in mind that "The United Church of Christ" also endorses Gay Marriage and opposes gender-specific definition.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8463741/

I have not seen anything that says Obama's particular congregation supports this, but I didn't see anything in their website that distanced themselves from it either.

"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.' "  Matthew 7:21-23

If you listen to the way the crowd responds to him, and read the church’s plans for honoring the retiring pastor, the place seems so cult-like that it’s scary.

the violently pointing and gesturing female H&C had on to defend the guy, had to turn it off...I managed to get through the whole show - she was pretty obnoxious, although I did enjoy what I thought was her defeated look at the end of the session, especially after the conservative on with her referred to her as "Chatty Cathy"....

What infuriated me was Coombs trying to equate Bush speaking at Bob Jones University and McCain being endorsed by Parsley and Hagee with Obama's twenty years' relationship with Dr. Wright, whom he calls his "sounding board" and "mentor" - especially when he then claims he didn't really know that the good Rev uttered such offensive comments in the past that they must be repudiated now - such desperate ploys by the libs - both Obama and Coombs - show them up for the silly and limited people they really are.......

Exactly.

But stuff like this makes me fear for the general election if it’s Obama/McCain: the Dems will be yelling racism from the word go; the Civil War and civil rights era will be brought up daily for no good reason, and so far McCain has just shown himself to be a gentlemanly wimp. What choice does he have? Oh, I know - pay your personal reparations and then declare it to be an even playing field? In his dreams.

...the Dems will be yelling racism from the word go..frankly I think the next six weeks are going to provide McCain with about fifty million dollars worth of free campaign ads as Obama and Hillary pull each other apart for everybody to see - my daughter came home from the gym tonight and said she had overheard a couple of women commenting "I'd never vote for him after hearing that stuff - I'll have to find out more about her" - as my daughter said "I hope they have something as good as Rev Wright to pull on Hillary".......

Google “400 years of slavery”. You’ll see why people use the phrase.

“He better go back and restudy his history. Some inconvenient truths need to be brought to the attention of these people:

1. Slavery was only used in a lesser populated half of this country’s states.

2. It also ceased nearly 150 years ago.

3. Tens of thousands of white men gave up their lives in the Civil War in order to free them.

4. It was the Repulican Party which was responsible for their liberation.

5. It was also the Democrats who were supporting the lynchings since then.

6. It was Eisenhower, a Republican, that ended segregation.

7. It was Johnson, a Democrat, who broke up their families and by giving them welfare.

I get so fed up with their historical ignorance.”

After listening to Obama’s claims of “Change” and listening to his preacher’s diatribes, I am very remorseful that any black Africans were ever captured and sold into slavery by their fellow rival countrymen and ended up in America. I know they hate it ‘cause they could be living the ‘high life’ in that wonderful continent, Africa.

“On that Sunday people were standing against the wall and in the halls. People were still scared and shocked by what happened.”

The fact that Wright could make these statements less than a week after the twin towers collapsed indicates what a sick, twisted individual he really is. The pictures of innocent American citizens jumping to their deaths and while the ashes still smolder he’s blaming the US and in effect saying they had it coming. This darkened soul is Obama’s spiritual mentor and teacher. That this type of rhetoric wasn’t unknown in this church is apparent from the response of the congregants. This wasn’t just a one Sunday deal that was totally out of character. Hard to see anyone coming out of such an environement as much of a uniter.

Don’t forget that the “Government” brings in drugs for the ghetto, and also engineered the aids virus to commit genocide.
No wonder this loon is buddies with Farrakhan and Qaddafi.

And no Barry Hussein is not going to be able to tap dance away from this so easily.

"The United States of America became a powerful nation on the backs of free labor; slavery. 400 years later the effects of that, Jim Crow laws and discrimination still exist."

So the United States of America existed 400 years ago and not only that, perhaps invented slavery?

Hussein claims he somehow missed this sermon.

This is absurd. That would be like someone attending that "God Hates Fags" cult/pseudo-church for years and then saying, "I did not know the pastor said something offensive. I must have missed that particular sermon. I know I don't hate anyone. Some of my best friends are..."

Black racism is no better than white racism, and this is what we have here. Obama is not fit to be in government office in the USA, any office.

-—————————————————>

I love the line of Mohammad Ali after his visit to Africa.
It went something like “The best thing my Grand Daddy ever did in his life was jump on the boat”.

Black Americans need to visit their “homeland” and see what is going on in Africa today!

If they want to see racism they will see the worse of it among blacks against blacks.
Saving Dufar has noting to do with Obama’s Pastor blaming “white folks” for this genocide.

I just figured what was happening here: Obama was out in front and could not observe how the others were positioning themselves. Still no excuse for not knowing what to do in the moment, IMHO!
