Are you done playing, John?

I know FreeRepublic is not for profit. I understand that any changes that are done to it are "unencumbered" by any feasible plan.

But you are driving me nuts, John!

Think things through from my perspective. I don't have time to play around figuring out all the subtle differences between on Alpha release and the Next.

Do the right thing. Beta. Test. Don't break what isn't broken. Never, ever, do anything that breaks a bookmark.

I understand that playgrounds are fun, but I, for one, don't have time to coddle you whilst you are playing!

FWIW I like it. Had a few hours with the learning curve, and now, it feels more streamlined. I like the tabs on the article (left) side, and I’m looking forward to the rest.

Thanks!

And the 20,000 volt zot through the cable line.

Do we get to help pick the zotees? ;) Or is that all up to the viking kitties?

Two problems. First, I’d like a real search box. I know that thing on the top right is supposed to do the job, but it’s impossible to figure out. Let’s have a search box. I know that many others are confused, too.

Second, I chose under options to have a separate daughter window open to read the articles from the news page. That still works EXCEPT if you click on one of the article titles over on the right, in Breaking News, etc. It’s driving me crazy.

Please restore the daughter windows when you click on the right side of the main page, if the user has chosen that option.

Hiya, JR. I promise to never whine about any of the new stuff if only one simple function changes:

On the main page where the index tabs say: “Articles”, “Activity”, “Comments”, “Brief”...if I could just have a default setting available in my account settings where I could change it from the forum default of “Articles” to the index tab of my choosing? That would make me really really happy. Honest.

It’ll all come out in the wash.

OK, you’ve had your say, and IMHO you’re not being very nice about it, but this non-computer-savvy poster likes everything just fine. I’ll admit I had to visit some threads on how to navigate and use some of the changes, but I like the “new” FR!

I know I’ll get the hang of it but but, holy cow, it’s a pain.

Have to agree. And for the same reasons. I don't get on very often anymore RL is taking up more and more of my time lately.

And it seems like there are changes almost daily. Guess I got spoiled by things staying pretty much the same for so long.

Yeah, John’s planning on user defaults for all that stuff. Lots of good stuff coming. He’s laying the groundwork for it now.

Yup. Me too. I'm getting older and crankier too. LOL

I just haven't the time or patience and FR is my main brain food.

Good. I don’t mind waiting as long as someone has it in mind.

I have another minor problem which may be mine rather than FRs, I’m not sure.

In IE7 under View/Font, I have had to choose “largest” in order to read the articles on FR. But that means that the text in things like search boxes is too large. It slips down out of view so I can only see the tops of the words. I just figured out how to bring up the Search box, but I can’t read the text in it because it’s so big. But the text in the regular articles and text boxes is pretty small even with the Largest Font option, so I can’t reduce to the usual View Medium.

I just mention it FYI, since it may be the settings on this computer rather than FR.

Use the code labeled “HTML for Websites” . It works better than the IMG Code for Forums, etc. I know seems counterintuitive, but you’ll see.
