An open letter to Jim Robinson: Consider a general amnesty for all the banned Rudy supporters....
o

Posted on 03/05/2008 1:11:46 PM PST by ken5050

Dear Jim..OK, the GOP now has its candidate. McCain isn't the first choice of the majority of us on FR, and even now, there are spirited, yet for the most part, civil exchanges on the threads as to whether or not some will support the GOP nominee. One of the more unfortunate, and unpleasant events on FR was the mass banishment and/or leaving of a great many Freepers who were supporters of Rudy Guliani for the nomination. I'm posting this to see if you'd be open to the idea of inviting them to return, and see how others might feel about this.

Howlin was female. No doubt about it.

No, that is not at all what I am trying to say. I am saying that the pro Rudy and pro Romney posters should have been allowed to discuss their candidate without all the rude disruptive postings of the single issue posters ruining the thread. If they weren’t interested, they should have just passed over the post and let it go. If there was no interest, it would have died a natural death. Killing discussion doesn’t benefit anyone. Politics of personal destruction and refusal to allow any dissent are liberal tactics that I never expected to see on FreeRepublic.

But, yes, I do think that the tactics that were used by the anti-Rudy Jihadists displayed lack of deeper thinking and an inability to even consider any differences of opinion. These posters must have felt threatened in some way by the support of Giuliani and Romney, much like Al Gore and his enviro-Nazis are threatened by the “global warming deniers”.
As a result we ended up with the worst possible candidate for the GOP. I hope they are happy.

This is exactly the kind of post that gives FreeRepublic a bad name. I am calling this to the attention of the moderator.

I'm surprised this needs to be brought to your attention, but this is a discussion forum. People tend to come here to express their views, and pointing our the liberal nature of Rudy and Mitt is certainly fair game. The fact that it was your liberal who was being lampooned doesn't change that.

But, yes, I do think that the tactics that were used by the anti-Rudy Jihadists displayed lack of deeper thinking and an inability to even consider any differences of opinion.

And, again, I'll point out the arrogant nature of your view.

These posters must have felt threatened in some way by the support of Giuliani and Romney

I'm sure they did - Giuliani and Romney are indeed threats to the future of the conservative movement. McCain is a lousy candidate, but he's far superior to Rudy and indistinguishable from Mitt. Still won't get my vote though.

If you are unhappy with McCain, then blame it on Giuliani. He created the road map for McCain’s primary victory. The Giuliani campaign pushed for NY, NJ, and CT to be on Super Tuesday and Winner Take All Delagates. Also Giuliani’s wait till FL plan helped to revive McCain’s campaign. When Giuliani’s support began to erode in the early primary states, McCain started to gain support. If Giuliani decided to campaign in NH and SC, then McCain wouldn’t have won those states. In fact McCain probably would have dropped after SC and endorsed Rudy. Since Rudy was too lazy to campaign, McCain was able to build momentum and take states would have gone to Rudy.

So, you think posting R-o-o-o-dy over and over is a form of discussion?

Frankly, I was never really sold on Giuliani, either, but I did like his plans on several issues. What I didn’t like was the politics of personal distruction and the refusal to debate the issues by the single issue posters.

Like someone else said, this is a discussion forum, but no discussion was being permitted unless you supported their candidate.

I didn't see much of that. What I saw was folks pointing out Rudy's liberal record, and Rudy supporters like yourself acting claiming the mantle of victimhood as a result.

You never saw me defending Rudy, because as soon as I saw one single R 0 0 0 DY, I clicked off the thread. I didn’t bother debating with people who had nothing to say.

I didn’t bother debating with people who had nothing to say that was in lockstep with my predisposed beliefs.

There, fixed it for you.

You are doing it again, refusing to listen to anything that differs with your opinions. I was not a Rudy supporter, but I was interested in reading about the candidates because I wasn’t sold on any of them. But the vile negativity of the single issue voters was a huge turn off. I didn’t even know what Rudy’s positions were until the debates, and then he really didn’t present them very well. It was difficult to get through all the talk of 9/11, but when I did listen, I liked his proposal on health care, to make the premiums tax deductible, and I thought that his suggestion on immigration was at least a start, (alien IDs).

I just couldn’t get through all the disruptive posts to discuss, anything substantive.

There was no reason for us to listen to anything about Rudy (that rooty to you) because the rudy lovers ASSURED us he would be the candidate in November. It was sewn up, we could stuff our votes, we could "take it to the bank".

Not listening is not the same thing as rudely disrupting a thread. If I’m not interested in a thread, I certainly don’t post on it?

No less than calling anyone who didn't worship your guy "anti-Rudy Jihadists".

And in my opinion, having a liberal shoved down my throat by the rudilovers, was as offensive to me as you feel the “jihadists” were to the rudilovers.

The thing is I was never a Rudy supporter. I was just interested in learning about the candidates’ positions because I didn’t like any of the candidates and I was trying to find the best one. I couldn’t sift through all the disruptive posts, though, to learn anything.

As opposed to you, the model of tolerance. In fact you're so interested in hearing opposing views you characterize those who voice them as "people who had nothing to say", "single issue posters", "Jihadists" who evidence a "lack of deeper thinking and an inability to even consider any differences", and those who practice the "politics of personal destruction".

Yes, you certainly are interesting in differing opinions. LOL.
