An open letter to Jim Robinson: Consider a general amnesty for all the banned Rudy supporters....
o

Posted on 03/05/2008 1:11:46 PM PST by ken5050

Dear Jim..OK, the GOP now has its candidate. McCain isn't the first choice of the majority of us on FR, and even now, there are spirited, yet for the most part, civil exchanges on the threads as to whether or not some will support the GOP nominee. One of the more unfortunate, and unpleasant events on FR was the mass banishment and/or leaving of a great many Freepers who were supporters of Rudy Guliani for the nomination. I'm posting this to see if you'd be open to the idea of inviting them to return, and see how others might feel about this.

McCain: Same-sex marriage ban is un-Republican

Straight Talkin’ McCain Takes Both Sides of Gay Marriage Amendment Debate
In 2004, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said he opposed a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage:

Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona broke forcefully with President Bush and the Senate GOP leadership Tuesday evening over the issue of same-sex marriage, taking to the Senate floor to call a constitutional amendment that would effectively ban the practice unnecessary — and un-Republican. “The constitutional amendment we’re debating today strikes me as antithetical in every way to the core philosophy of Republicans,” McCain said.

Re: McCain On Abortion (Unedited Full Quote) He prefers the concept of the party of inclusion you know like hands across the isle!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Trbaufpok8

So now we end up with McCain with out a whimper on those vital issues such as Gay Marriage, and supports embryonic stem cell research, vacillating on roe vs. wade as of now but supports later, huh?

He will always be a hand’s across the isle guy!

All other candidates were bashed out of the run so we could end up with this?

I have no problem with where anyone posts or why, I was just a bit confused by the comment.

True, that.

I remember one particularly rude and vile Freeper who likened us alll to Nazis and the KKK.

There are some Freepers I miss (quite a lot, actually) and others I’m very glad are gone!

463 posts, and still no mention of nopardons? Her banning was probably the single most civilizing influence on this site. Whatever happened to that vile woman?

Glad to hear that.

Thanks for the update.

...and if he's ever passing through Minneapolis, I know of a couple of Irish pubs...

Cheers!

As I said a few posts down from the one you rsponded to, I was invited via FReepmail to join DC at the beginning of the site. It was intended to give the scientific community from FR a place to talk about the science with having to argue with the creationists risk that every thread on science would be the subject of an attempted hijacking by creationists. Nothing more.

There, all fixed. I was invited too.

They do post more "current science" curiosities over there, and that's fun and engaging, but they tend (in my *limited* experience) to lean much more libertarian and freethinking "bright" atheistic over there. Not necessarily explicitly, but kind of an undercurrent; as the 'pro-God' mentioned by Jim Robinson is always an undercurrent here.

Cheers!

Since RadioAstronomer has been discussed on this thread, and mostly in a negative light, I want to say something about him.

He’s a friend of mine. He’s more than an internet buddy. We talk regularly on the phone.

Yes, he’s banned from this site. He got mad and said some things he wishes he hadn’t said. He used some bad language, and those posts couldn’t be allowed to remain up. He understands that, but you know what?

He didn’t make those posts out of the blue. He had been called a “death eater” among other things. His conservative credentials had been challenged despite his long posting history here.

For the record he was SUSPENDED for his language and allowed to come back, then he started right back up.

Anything said to him about being a "death eater" was in response to repeated anti-life statements on a thread he was asked to leave.

As far as his "conservative credentials" goes, he repeatedly questioned the conservatism of one of the founders of National Review and also a Reagan White House appointee.

Since you speak to him regularly, please let him know that his comments on the news of T'wit's death showed heartfelt sympathy and a lot of class considering their past squabbles.

There is nothing to like....but, as a conservative, you are not supposed to like him, you are just supposed to vote for him.

As for the FR departed intellectuals?

You can check out the site posted at a link above. Whoa. If that is considered intellectual discourse, Jethro Bodine would be considered Einstein! LOL

Just how interested are YOU in making this site better? (Because from a newbie’s point of view, it seems like you and your posse, are intent on behaving like juveniles, as seen here.)

This is a CONSERVATIVE forum, things improved dramatically with the departure of many of the liberal RINOs.

I'm thankful we have FReepers like you willing to tell everyone else if they're conservative or not. Shouting RINO and Liberal and DUmmy and Rooty is so much more interesting than actual debate.

I'm not sure who elected you two the Hall Monitors of Conservative Orthodoxy, but at least we don't have to think or defend our positions any more. All that discussion was just tiresome.

Actually, shouting these things is more entertaining, the humor and all, y'know?

What is there to debate? The obvious?

You surely can't be serious putting Rooty in the conservative category. So lighten up. The world keeps spinning.

I'm not sure an argument between two conservatives as to who is more conservative is necessarily a bad thing. When it escalates to the point where insults are being traded, bad things can happen. And they did.

RadioAstronomer is doing more in his job to keep America safe and take the war to the enemy than can be told. Not everyone who is vital to the effort is wearing combat boots overseas. It's not as dangerous, but you and I are better off that a man like RadioAstronomer is doing his job.

And that's all I'm going to say about that.

Conservatives can have differences. We should be willing to acknowledge that, while also acknowledging that when we differ, we can still both be conservatives. Too often we forget that at this forum.

Why not bring back the banned Paulistinians and Hunterites too. What so special about Rudy tooters?

How about some pro-border enforcement freepers? At least they were promoting conservative principles.

Well whatever. You have your opinion, they have theirs. In the end all the bannees did something to p*** o** JR or the mods.

BTW This is not my 1st incarnation here, I have self-banned (immolated) my screename a few times with the intention of never coming back, but I did. Guess that makes me a hypocrite.

Tell the evos over at DC that if it was up to me they could come back, but they would have to reign in some of the nasty malicious obscene and vulgar elements that seemed to creep into their posts.

Hey Vade Retro, RWP, RA, Guitarguy, CTMom, phantomworker, Salamander, et al. Hope life is treating all of you well.

But no matter how life treats me, I try to threat life like its my last day. Now if only I could maintain that kind of focus 24x7x365!

But back to the present and that profile page of yours dog. What is it you are communicating with that?
