An open letter to Jim Robinson: Consider a general amnesty for all the banned Rudy supporters....
o

Posted on 03/05/2008 1:11:46 PM PST by ken5050

Dear Jim..OK, the GOP now has its candidate. McCain isn't the first choice of the majority of us on FR, and even now, there are spirited, yet for the most part, civil exchanges on the threads as to whether or not some will support the GOP nominee. One of the more unfortunate, and unpleasant events on FR was the mass banishment and/or leaving of a great many Freepers who were supporters of Rudy Guliani for the nomination. I'm posting this to see if you'd be open to the idea of inviting them to return, and see how others might feel about this.

Here’s the link: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1809596/posts?page=322#322 For what it’s worth, RA did have some kind words to say on DC when T’wit passed away and I found that very honorable.

Wow, never heard him talk like that. But to my original point, it doesn't make him liberal.

If Jim wants to allow some back on a case-by-case basis (as he has already done with some of the more civil ones), he certainly has that right. I think that some sort of McCain-style “blanket amnesty” program would be a horrible idea. Many of them were never conservatives to start with, spending a year pushing RINOs certainly hasn’t made them conservative.

The only area I thought RA was liberal in was his opposition to the pro-life movement. But when it came to that he and the other Darwinists tend to be downright hateful.

The truth of the matter is that even if amnesty were offered to the Rudy supporters and others, the past could never be undone. Even if they returned, they'd come back bitter, angry, and changed. Regardless of our desire, there's no going back.

From a financial standpoint as well as for the overall health of FR, I would urge Jim Robinson to reorganize how the moderators operate. Some are unnecessarily vindictive and just as obnoxious and immature as many banned posters. Keep knocking off any and every poster that might offend the subjective tastes of the mods and this place will get pretty dull.

A lot of them were bitter and angry before they were banned, remember they started WA two months BEFORE the bannings started.

BUT..... one thing is for sure , it is a vile site now, and Radio, along with many of it’s other members are are Anti- Freepers.

It is sad that DC is what became of the scientific community at FR.

If they come back, they will just start recruiting for WAnkerville again

Don't forget DC.

Many of those folks were a gold mine of scientific information, but the crevo threads sure got heated.

It got so you could hardly post any Calvin and Hobbes in there anymore...

Cheers!

I signed up the night those people were banned. They weren’t banned because they supported Rudy Giuliani - plenty of people survived the bannings. They were banned because they were saying ugly things about Ronald Reagan, because they were saying abortion wasn’t an important issue, because they were accusing people who thought Giuliani was a poor choice of wanting Democrats to win.

I think time has proven just the opposite - that support for Rudy was a road to nowhere. A losing proposition, and that these people were supporting him just for the sheer joy of supporting a liberal while still pretending to be Republican(ish).

The banning, at the time, showed me that FreeRepublic was going to clamp down on the liberals in our midst. Make a real stand for conservative values. This is not a Republican site, it’s a conservative site. I applauded those bannings. Even McCain is far, far, far to the right of Rudy Giuliani. Supporting Rudy was unacceptable for anyone with any pretense of conservatism.

I always planned to leave FreeRepublic once Giuliani was flushed, but the threat of the Obama campaign is what motivates me now. And I see no reason why Rudy supporters wouldn’t flock to the Obama camp. After all - their motivation was that only Rudy could beat Hillary. But can’t Obama also beat Hillary? If they don’t mind abortion, and don’t mind loose morals, and don’t mind liberal social policies, why wouldn’t they support Obama instead of McCain just as they supported Rudy over him?

does anything prevent the banned conservatives from reregistering under a new account and simply behaving themselves under the rules and principles of the site?

I think Jim has their IP number and they can't register again, as long as they have the same computer that they were banned on. They would have to get a new computer before they could register again.

I thought most of those banned were campaign workers, professional viral advertisers, or liberals pushing left wing causes.

There were alot of hateful FReepers who were banned because of their mouth. Some of them were very ugly to Jim and others. They deserved to be banned because they are trouble makers and the source of most FR battles. I don't want them to come back because they'll just increase the battles we have on FR.

Back in old days, we just stayed off the threads that we found offensive.
