Dear Jim..OK, the GOP now has its candidate. McCain isn't the first choice of the majority of us on FR, and even now, there are spirited, yet for the most part, civil exchanges on the threads as to whether or not some will support the GOP nominee. One of the more unfortunate, and unpleasant events on FR was the mass banishment and/or leaving of a great many Freepers who were supporters of Rudy Guliani for the nomination. I'm posting this to see if you'd be open to the idea of inviting them to return, and see how others might feel about this.

Radio Astronomer told a dear FRiend of mine (T’wit who was one of the earliest and longest-term editors of National Review, writer of their crossword puzzles for decades and a nationally known conservative, who passed away last August) to go “f*ck himself” and was suspended. Within days of coming back, RA started the same thing with T’wit and was banned.
Darwin Central didn't start out anti-Freeper, but became that as it's members were banned.

There's never been a conservative nominee that's as conservative as I am. I doubt that there ever will be. Reagan was a fairly liberal Republican but I voted for him anyway. I'm glad I did.

I had many numerous conversations with RA. Never knew him to use profanity, but that was before his involvement in DC.
Whatever, the ONLY thing they had going for them is that they supported Bush and voted GOP. There was NOTHING conservative about them.
Actually, Peach was one of the nicest people here. She got caught up in a public stoning over Rudy (must like the McCain haters) and got more strident in her counter attacks.

That comment is downright false. Most of us remember that day. The Darwin Central site started well before the purge in the spring. In fact, that is what created it.

For what it’s worth, RA did have some kind words to say on DC when T’wit passed away and I found that very honorable.
“We lost a lot of smart and thoughtful people”.
If they were smart and thoughtful they wouldn’t be pushing Rudy on a conservative forum.

I was invited to join DC, but didn't. The invited was sent though my FReepmail, and said only that they were starting a site to allow the scientific conservatives to discuss the science without haveing to argue with the creationaists.
The FReepers who were banned need to stay banned. They were the most disruptive, obnoxious, disrespectful trash ever to sign up here. They bullied FReepers. They set up anti-FReeper sites on numerous occasions. They spread lies about FR, JR, and FReepers. They have no redeeming qualities, and are of no value to FR. FR is a better place without them. Just look at the higher quality of people who are drawn here since they left.
