An open letter to Jim Robinson: Consider a general amnesty for all the banned Rudy supporters....
o

Posted on 03/05/2008 1:11:46 PM PST by ken5050

Dear Jim..OK, the GOP now has its candidate. McCain isn't the first choice of the majority of us on FR, and even now, there are spirited, yet for the most part, civil exchanges on the threads as to whether or not some will support the GOP nominee. One of the more unfortunate, and unpleasant events on FR was the mass banishment and/or leaving of a great many Freepers who were supporters of Rudy Guliani for the nomination. I'm posting this to see if you'd be open to the idea of inviting them to return, and see how others might feel about this.

Could be, could be. Definitely in need of a time-out, if nothing else.

MCCAIN /GIULIANI '08 !!!

Put the shovel DOWN and step away from the hole.

No kidding. Picking Rudy as his running mate would be the easiest way for McCain to hand the presidency over to hillary or obama on a gold-crusted silver platter. The election would not even be close enough for Ralph Nader to be a factor even if he somehow siphoned off 15% of the moonbat dem vote in each of the most tightly contested states.

Consider the primary results from Texas, and how I as a Texan and a conservative republican interpret them:
GOP Primary

Candidate Votes Vote %
J. McCain 707,622 51%
M. Huckabee 521,950 38%
R. Paul 69,824 5%
M. Romney 27,579 2%
Uncommitted 17,611 1%
F. Thompson 11,786 1%
A. Keyes 8,571 1%
D. Hunter 8,254 1%
R. Giuliani 6,169 1%
Total GOP 1,379,366

Democrat Primary:

Candidate Votes Vote %
H. Clinton 1,453,139 51%
B. Obama 1,354,672 47%
J. Edwards 29,808 1%
B. Richardson 10,667 1%
C. Dodd 3,718 1%
J. Biden 5,297 1%
Total Dem 2,857,301

More Texans voted for hillary than voted for all the GOP candidates combined in the GOP primary. More Texans voted for Obama than voted for McCain, Huckabee, Paul, Romney, and Thompson combined in the GOP primary. This is in a solid red state. This means that GOP voters were not at all enthused about their choices for this primary. Perhaps they'll be enthused in November to vote against hillary, but they certainly won't if McCain picks a liberal like Rudy as his running mate.

I’m not trying to revist the past, merely wondering if....

Speaking of a revisit to the past, what happened to results to the stock picking contest you conducted 6 or 7 years ago? I never did see the results, did I miss them or did you not post them?

People do not need refund or recourse if they are not a liberal. JR removed people last spring because they thought that a donation would give their liberal agenda cover. Just like the DC GOP fools.

You win some, you lose some. You can still be true to yourself if you do not sell out. You notice, Free Republic still exists, may have taken a little longer, but... here we are! I would call that a victory rather than a loss!

Maybe that is the real problem here.

We lost some colorful, intelligent and interesting FReepers.

Well, if by "colorful" you mean "liberal hyenas who ran off in a snit when they couldn't turn FR into a liberal site", then I suppose I agree.

None of the people I'm referring to were, are, or ever will be liberal.

I still like Free Republic, but I miss the intellectual interchange and sense of humor of some former FReepers.

Some were far worse than others. Some were banned, some suspended, some took their own leave of absence and have since returned. It's actually a rather complicated proposition, to bring some of them back. How would it be done?

I don't know. I'm glad I'm not in charge.

Look, it was a very bad time for this forum. And I am well aware who the trouble makers were.

And FYI, I don't happen to think McCain is anything but a RINO..Should he pick Rudy as his running mate, then God only knows who will be the last one standing here..

Many banned themselves in a show of solidarity against FR. They still post here when they feel it is important, otherwise they still cry about Rooty and say how pathetic we conservatives are.
