.- A Catholic hospital that refused to allow its facilities to be used for breast implant surgery on a man that had undergone a sex-change operation will now allow the procedure, the California Catholic Daily reports.
In 2006 a doctor told Charlene Hastings, 57, that Seton Medical Center in Daly City would not allow him to perform breast-enhancement surgery on a transsexual. Hastings claimed that upon further inquiry a surgical coordinator at the hospital said to him, Its not Gods will and God made you a man.
A 2006 memo sent by Seton Medical Center to physicians said, transgender procedures or procedures that are part of the transgendering process may not be performed at Seton, as Seton is a Catholic Hospital.
Hastings filed suit against the hospital in San Francisco Superior Court in December. The suit alleged that Seton violated state law, which allows religiously-based hospitals to refuse to perform abortions but makes no exemption for denying elective surgery for transgender operations.
On February 27 the San Francisco television station CBS 5 News reported that the hospital had issued a written statement to CBS 5 that said, We regret any confusion that may have come from this situation. We want this patient and her physician to know that they are welcome at Seton Medical Center.
The hospital still said that Catholic teaching prohibits the accommodation of sex-change operations.
The CBS 5 News station characterized the statement as a veiled apology. It said, transgender Charlene Hastings has claimed moral victory against Catholics.
According to the California Catholic Daily, Hastings attorney, Chris Dolan, said that a lawsuit seeking monetary damages would proceed.
Like any good religious experience, first you need enlightenment and then you need atonement, said Dolan. And what we have here perhaps is a glimpse of enlightenment. Has it changed their heart? I dont think so. Will it change their practice? It better.
Hastings will not undergo surgery at Seton, saying he would not be comfortable because he would feel the hospital would be doing it under duress.
Prayers that the hospital upper echelon will change their minds.

What?
Plastic surgery. Behold the parsing of legal and medical regulations per the hospital and critics.
Problem, they aren’t the only ones ‘living with it’, this is about the faith of millions and a long period of scripture and church teachings. It seems they have decided thus, so it’s time to remove the Catholic label.
Or they need to close. While they’re at it, they can pull their adoption agencies, pantries, refuse state funding of any kind in Catholic schools and dismiss voucher holding students.
Who the heck do these clowns think started schools, universities, hospitals, charities in this country? The religious.
Now if they want state to be the religion of the people, let them carry it.
If it were a muslim hospital, school, charity, pharmacy, etc., would we hear this?
Why not tell him to pack on a few pounds and wait 3-5 years, he will have man boobs anyway.
Sounds like that Dolan's a real POS.
Spoken like a true lawyer, dripping with arrogance. Mr. Dolan, can I persuade you to spar with me sometime? It'll just be excercise, you know.
Like a broken record:
Until our nation places a disincentive on this type of behavior (individual against a Catholic private business, not the freak), we will all suffer, as we reap the consequences. In the end, there won’t be a nation. Any impediment (like a judge), needs to be dealt with similarly.
Why didn’t the hospital simply revoke the operating privileges
of the surgeon who was performing the breast implant?
“(When) each man will have to learn for himself that narrow is the gare and strait the way to Eternal Life, and few there are who enter therein:
There will be no attorneys to plead his case; no alienists to plead that he was not in his right mind because he did wrong; no Freudians to plead that he was not responsible because he had an Oedipus Complex; all the masks will be taken off; he will step out of the ranks, away from the crowd, and the only voice he will hear will be the voice of conscience, which will not testify in his behalf, but will reveal self as he really is; its X-rays will penetrate beyond moods and phantasies, gestures and schemes and illusions; no loud orchestra will play to drown his conscience; no opiates will be served to make him forget or waft him off into the delightful irresponsibility of sleep; no cocktails will be served at bars with angelic barmaids to make him deaf to the voice of conscience; no Marxist will arise to defend him and say that he was determined by economic conditions under which he lived and therefore, was not free; no book of the month will be read to prove that since there is no sin, there can be no judgement.”
-Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, Servant of God
Seton Medical Center had a chance at greatness on a scale that exceeds anything of human compute, and they blew it. They folded in the face of an enemy armed with nothing but perversion and evil. Seriously, they’re a disgrace in the face of the martyrs who gave their own necks for their faith. If the hospital had to fold over some ridiculous lawsuit, better to suffer for doing the right thing than to exist peacefully in grave error.
They had a shot at greatness. Instead they’ve opened the door to more of this, and I guarantee abortion will be next. What will they do when that law gets repealed?
Even some of the primitive cultures in Africa are fighting to stop genital mutilation while the pervert panderers here in the US are calling it a right of disgusting proportions. Welcome to the US where mental illness is called normal.
