Obama: Sermon on Mount Justifies Same-Sex Unions

By Terence P. Jeffrey

CNSNews.com Editor in Chief

March 03, 2008

(CNSNews.com) - Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told a crowd at Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio, Sunday that he believes the Sermon on the Mount justifies his support for legal recognition of same-sex unions. He also told the crowd that his position in favor of legalized abortion does not make him "less Christian."

"I don't think it [a same-sex union] should be called marriage, but I think that it is a legal right that they should have that is recognized by the state," said Obama. "If people find that controversial then I would just refer them to the Sermon on the Mount, which I think is, in my mind, for my faith, more central than an obscure passage in Romans." (See video here) St. Paul's Epistle to the Romans condemns homosexual acts as unnatural and sinful.

“Huh? Christ complains about sexual immorality about a dozen times in the gospels”

Obama obviously hasn’t read them.

McCain has made sound-bites on both sides of the issue. During the Terri Schiavo case, his actions revealed he is not pro-life.

You are correct but many still will not accept this reality and cling to the illusion that choosing one evil over the other is not compromise but an embracing of evil.

Apparently, he attended Columbia and Harvard Law, not exactly strong centers of Christian orthodoxy. But blasphemy can be added to his list of errors.

What's that line about how even the devil can quote scripture?

Libs don't believe in standards of behavior, it must be why they leave this part off.

They also love to use the passage whereby Jesus forgives the adulteress to justify their wrongdoing, ALWAYS conveniently leaving out the most important words in the lesson:

"Go, and sin no more." John 8:11 (emphasis mine)

Nothing irritates me more than when people use His words to try to excuse their behavior.

"Sooner or later the whiners and pouters here on FR are going to realize that JOHN MCCAIN IS THEIR ONLY OPTION ON NOVEMBER 4TH!

Kiss off.

It amuses me how many folks who are willing to settle for John McCain always qualify their insults and name-calling with 'not that I like it' or 'he really wasn't my first or last candidate', which supposedly makes them wise or above the fray ... like you have become enlightened on a subject that others are simply too stupid to understand.

You may find yourself with only one option, and you may have been able to justify your support for John McCain. That does not in any way, shape or form, make anyone who disagrees with you wrong.

To those sincere conservatives who say that in good conscience, they can't vote for McCain, and are willing to endure 4 years of a liberal/dem administration; I ask you to please consider the 20-30 year impact of the 2-3 Supreme Court Justices sure to be appointed by the next President.

Think I'm wrong. I'd wager that Ginsburg and Brennan will announce their retirement after the inaugural.

OK, so we have

“he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
and
“do not judge.”

used to justify “liberal” indiscriminateness and immorality.

Not surprising.

He’s confused about the term “mount”.

Genius.

I doubt whether “the” anti-christ will acknowledge as such becuase he believes himslelf as the messiah.

I put “THE” as such because there are already many anti-christs amoungst us and always have been.

Look at the not-so-conservative justices that McCain has voted to confirm, read up on some of the comments McCain has made about the conservative appointments of President Bush and get back to me on how McCain is guaranteed to appoint conservative judges. McCain is not going to appoint anyone who is unapproved by his good friends on the other side of the aisle.

McCain has made some assurances as to the type of judges he will appoint. I take some comfort in that.Yes, I know, the proof is in the pudding, and we will ahve to push hard, but at least there is the hope. You comment does not refute what we are sure to get if Hillary or Obama gets to pick 2-3 justices.

"You comment does not refute what we are sure to get if Hillary or Obama gets to pick 2-3 justices."

That is absolutely correct.

And your comment offers only 'hope'. If I am going to have to fight tooth and nail either way, at least the Dems will not have the automatic support of the Repubs in the House and Senate.

My lack of support for McCain does not exist because I am angry or pouting or taking my toys and going home (I think I've hit on all the typical buzz accusations). I was opposing a liberal Republican candidate way back before Rudy's nomination was presumed. If the Republican party is going to implode, it will do so without my assistance. Compromise so that the lesser evil can win -- been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

If you don't want a liberal in the White House, voting for a liberal is not the answer. We can argue about the degree of liberal all day long.

If you are comfortable with your decision to support McCain, I can respect that. You should know that I have not arrived at my decision to not support McCain flippantly or without thorough considerations.

Obama was doing fine, as long as he didn’t let anyone know what he stood for. Just promise “hope” and “change”, without specifics.

Now, the specifics are starting to ooze out from under the rock that they’ve been hiding under. And people will find that they smell bad.
