BERKELEY, Calif. (KCBS) -- The protests that continue in Berkeley over the Marines recruiting station come at a hefty price tag for the city.
Protests have been held every Friday for months outside the Marines recruitment center on Shattuck Avenue in Berkeley.
It supports the war by continuing to pull people into the war machine, said Jennifer Kitter, a Code Pink member, and regular at the protests.
The city manager says Berkeley police are spending $20,000 each time such a protest is held, to make sure that the demonstrators dont get physical with each other.
Im supporting the troops, all of the troops, and in this case, the Marines, said John Roy, a former Marine, who stands in front of the recruitment station waving an American flag.
Both sides vow the protests will continue.

The price tag is incredible!
The Berkeley City Council has cost the City of Berkeley taxpayers in excess of $93,000 on Feb 12; and every Friday $20,000.
Wonder how long it’ll take the city to go broke?

"I am also protesting by not bathing during all of this time. I'm not shaving my legs or armpits, either," she continued. I'll show those evil warmongers. I haven't taken a bath or shower in weeks. It's great, really. I have much more time to protest since I'm not wasting any time on useless grooming."

A supporter of our military has got to love it.
Make the crazy folks of Berkley pay for the disrespect they’ve shown our military. At the same time it takes needed funds away from other aspects of their govt.
Keep it up folks, wish I were closer to there to show support.

LOL! That just seemed so realistic for one of these "types" I had to check the article. I think your version is closer than the authors.

Big SHOUT OUT to John Roy!
oooh-Rah! Semper Fi
TO JOE: Sure wish I lived within traveling distance to Berkeley, too. I'd be a fixture in front of the Marine OSO to show my support, right along with John Roy and other supporters.

Considering that John Roy is facing off against Jennifer Kitter, he is very brave indeed. He deserves heavy combat pay for chemical warfare alone!

You got it right, I love a show and it sure would be fun dressing up in my old Army uniform to just stand around laughing at and making fun of the crazies there.
You have to know it is easy as can be to tweak code pink feathers.
Maybe carry a sing saying nuke Iran and on the other side put Sheehan in prison.

Money means absolutely nothing to these cities. They will gladly spend a million bucks on a wheelchair ramp and act as if it’s no ones business.

The police should do cover this differently: Lady, if you want to protest the marines you do it on your own dime.
