The question of what is wrong, that could allow Obama or any other nobody, spouting "Alles muss anders sein", to come to power, is very interesting. Either we figure it out, or he wins.
His candidacy and his program are typical of those which would follow catastrophic changes - defeat in war, mass unemployment, hyperinflation, etc.
That our people are so receptive to this message at a time when the "by the numbers" picture of our nation shows "never had it so good" means that the numbers, the pundits, the experts, and the elected officials are missing something of vital importance.
The possibility - even if it were remote - of a person like Obama being elected President means that there is a very serious, very deep, spiritual and existential crisis among our people, so much so that they are looking for a savior.
What is it? What's wrong?
The man with the answer can beat Obama and be the next President.
What’s wrong? Bring back the traditional middle class family with its belief in God and American exceptionalism.
Maybe we reached a cultural tipping point recently in which the secular humanism and relativism of our society has us looking for a human to “save” us rather than Jesus.
We have been looking at “post - christian Europe” for a decade or two now. Maybe the Obamamania is the most visible sympton of a rapidly developing post-christian US.
Just a thought. Humans have a hole in them, an incompleteness, that depserately yearns for God. When God is made an unpalatable or non-viable option, humans will look for something else to fill that empty space in their soul.
Apply the same Reagan logic that worked on the Soviets:
"We win, they lose."
Simple as that.
1. Raging Liberals
2. Disgusted Conservatives
3. Exhausted Moderates
4. Energized Blacks
5. Gullible Evangelicals (Thank you Rick Warren...)
ENDLESS NON-CRITICAL MEDIA COVERAGE: This is probably the biggest single thing Obama has going for him - weeks, now turning into months of near blissful coverage of his every move. His all-American good looks, his beautiful wife and daughters, his tall strides, and poetic words all seem to mesmerize the media crews following him. And if you haven’t yet seen it - his very first television commercial for president is full of platitudes, music, and production that will resonate with the electorate.
GK Chesterton wrote in: "I am."
Now, that was witty, which Chesterton was. It was also correct from a Christian viewpoint, which is what Chesterton was trying to express.
We've abandoned God. Until we take God more seriously, the leaders who are given to us will be bad leaders. There's a lot of precedence for that, by the way.
Really? It's the GOP "elite" that keep voting for Mccain and other so-called "RINO"s in primary after primary? I vaguely remember 2 or 3 "true" conservatives running for president. Did the "elite" force them to quit?
And they all love him.
John Edward almost had it right but what is wrong is not that there are 2 Americas .....its that there are 2 universes, liberal and conservative
Politically, it is a reflection of the loss of real faith within this country. Believers have faith in the providence of God. Unbelievers have faith in a substitute and false source of providence, Government. All manner of awful things proceed from unbelief.
A caller on Rush this past Monday said much the same thing and kept alluding to “events in the past” without specifically saying that Obama’s political rise mirrors one Adolph Hitler in the 1930’s.
No, that happened because the majority of the primaries that have taken place were in either blue states or states that are a little more liberal then the average conservative state and because they were open primaries. It almost seemed the process was rigged to put a RINO in.
“Really? It’s the GOP “elite” that keep voting for Mccain and other so-called “RINO”s in primary after primary? I vaguely remember 2 or 3 “true” conservatives running for president. Did the “elite” force them to quit?”
The elite and the media only had to never mention them unless in a negative light to force them out.
Nobody could afford even a 60 sec spot on every TV station in the country, every day for 30 days. What would that cost? 250 million?
The liberals got far more than that free! Even the “so called” conservative media did next to nothing until all the conservative candidates were forced out.
Then they dug the best( in their minds) of the RINOs out of the garbage can and tried to prop him up as conservative! No sale! That liberal stink wouldn’t wash off, so we are stuck with a mushy moderate.
“list anything that Obama actually did”
He doesn’t salute the American flag or wear a lapel pin.
This is a very minor part of the reason we have Mccain as a candidate. You need only look to the past 30 years of Republican nominees to weigh your premise.
I’ll contend you are avoiding the real issue. It is not the media. The media has been horribly biased for many, many years.
