In their attempt, in a Weekly Standard article, to defend Senator John McCains elevation of senatorial privilege over efforts by the Bush administration and the Right to get conservative judges confirmed, Adam White and Kevin White miss important points, simultaneously providing an incomplete version of history.
~snip~ Thus, they intimate that Frist was actually relieved by the Gang of 14 deal and suggest he encouraged it behind the scenes.
Of course, had it been as the authors suggest, there would have been no need for a Gang of 14 deal. Frist would not have pressed the issue, and the Senate could simply have voted the proposal down had Frist persisted. At the time, however, with the 2006 elections on the horizon, many senators were desperate to avoid such a vote exactly because of circumstances the Whites acknowledge: conservatives had succeeded in making President Bushs judicial nominations a political hot potato for Republicans.
~snip~ Besides preserving their privilege (which allows a single senator, for absolutely no reason, to prevent a president from fulfilling his constitutional obligation to appoint officers of the United States, without whom the government cannot function), McCain and his confederates were most determined to avoid accountability. That was the essence of the Gang of 14 deal. The senators pretended, in a bluster of high-minded twaddle, to resolve the controversy without disturbing the chambers procedures. It was nonsense. ~snip~

Why oppose Democrats when you can have a real liberal:
John McCain?
G14=birth of BGS
Frist is also a POS...Have you seen the fat-faced Frist in his stupid tv commercial? He acts like an idiot in the ad...
Did anyone like any of the Super Bowl ads? I thought many of them were vulgar and in poor taste. Others were trying to hard to be “artsy”. The Frist-Carville ad was just a bunch of mush, because Coca Cola didn’t want to take sides in case they offended any potential customers.
McCarthy and Levin describe what I remember happening... McCain is actually performing a whole lot like old Bill Clinton...
McCain is not a lawyer is he.... so he had to have had some serious counseling to have come up with this Senate protection racket.
Me thinks the anti-gang task force should do a no-knock raid on the Manchurian Candidate’s residence.
Mike Huckabee picked up a glowing character endorsement today.
From CBS Evening News, Feb. 4, 2008.
Mike Huckabee has been subjected to the millions of dollars of attack ads by Mitt Romney.....I think Hes a very good and decent man and I admire him. And I admire his humor and I think hes elevated the entire presidential debate and campaign.
That was the answer given when Katie Couric asked what the shortcomings of Huckabee were. The answer was quite the contrast to the same question about Mitt Romney. And who was giving this praise to Huck?
JOHN McCAIN! He went on to attack Romney with the usual unqualified sound bites and insulted Rick Santorum as a defeated candidate who had no right to question his temper.

One-On-One With 08 Candidates Katie Couric speaks candidly with Democratic presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, and Republican candidates Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and John McCain.
“He acts like an idiot in the ad...”
That ain’t acting.
Saving
Saving & Loans.
McCain was the only Republican among the Keating Five.
There’s still time to put this greenhouse gasbag McCain and his candidacy out to pasture. If Romney can stay competitive tomorrow that’ll give conservatives a little breathing room to fire up the base and get out the vote for the remaining states.
What you said! bttt

PING for truth!
Correction: McCain is no Republican. Even back then, he was a collaborator.
