New Poll: Hillary Crashing in California
NewsMax ^ | January 31, 2008 | Dick Morris and Eileen McGann

Stop the presses! The very latest polling data from California indicates a sharp trend for Obama and against Hillary. Preliminary indications in other states are that the trend is very widespread and not just concentrated on the west coast.

Pollster Scott Rasmussen's three day tracking survey, conducted on January 28-30, shows Hillary with a bare and dwindling 3 point lead over Obama in California. He has Hillary at 43%, Obama at 40%, and Edwards (two of the three days were before he dropped out) at 9%. This data compares with a 20 point plus Hillary margin in most polls in California just a few weeks ago.

Other polls have Obama winning Georgia (O-52 H-36) and Alabama (O-40 H-35) with their sizeable minority populations, but also very close in Massachusetts, trialing there by only H-43 O-37 and in Montana by only H-40 O-33. National polls also indicate a sharp closing of the race. Gallup has Hillary just six ahead and Rasmussen's national data is even closer.

Edwards' withdrawal will help Obama in all likelihood and, with these poll numbers, he is more likely to endorse Obama.

Of course, a lot will hinge on how well each candidate does in tonight's Democratic debate.

But there could be a wrinkle. In most states, the most of the delegates are awarded by Congressional District where the two slates compete and the one with the most votes wins all the delegates from that district. Even if Obama were to carry California by, say 53-47, he might win the black districts by 80-20 and lose most or all of the white districts, giving Hillary the vast bulk of the delegates. Obama would have to get his margin of victory up to 8-10 points to be sure of sweeping the delegates in a given state.

Yet, when all is sqaid and done, the trend lines for Obama are unbelievably positive just a few days before Super Tuesday.

The McCain nomination looks like a done deal. He is beating Romney in all five states with recent polls, winning California by 32-28, Illinois by 34-26, Gerogia by 35-24, and Tennessee by 33-25. Huckabee is in second place in Tennessee with Romney running last.

Dick Morris is so wrong, so often, that it's hard to know what to think.

I don’t understand why the old Clinton guard is falling and they seem to be able to pick someone new and we seem to be stuck on stupid and going with an old political hack like mccain.

Obama may win Super Tuesday, but Hillary will steal the nomination. She’s got Super Delegates, she’ll pull in Michigan, and Florida, she’ll do whatever it takes.

Morris is often wrong, though his writings are usually interesting.

Hillary is losing establshment support, Morris is right about that. How much support she is losing is unclear right now.

Depends on who the hairdressers in California (SF & LA) will vote for, now that their best customer is gone!

I’m more worried about where her broomstick will land than where the disabled spy satellite will land. After all, we know her broomstick is going to land in the United States, and probably within a few inches of every taxpayer’s wallet.

Huckabee is killing Romney. He is in a deal with McAsshole and we are going to have that piss poor Naval Aviator represent us for our Party. I am looking for land in Nova Scotia.

She’s got super delegates UNLESS they revolt and switch allegiance.

Nobody likes hillary very much. If they are CERTAIN that they can defeat her, they might just do it. If there’s any chance at all that she’ll win, no one will dare to do it.

That said, I do not think Obama is any better. He’s possibly more dangerous than she is.

That is due, in part, to the MSM. The MSM would be happy with either Obama or Hillary, but they can see which way the wind is blowing so they back Obama. As far as McCain goes, he's the Libs' PetRINO and will be backed by the media until after he served his purpose...getting a Liberal elected one way or another. The MSM offers free, stealth advertising to all of the above.

LMAO....

FIVE states, and NO ONE in the Republican race can garner more than 35% of the Repub vote.

Thanks Mike Huckabee! You have NO chance at the nomination, and have throughout the process via some sort of mind-meld over apparently single-issue evangelicals continued to divide the conservative voice of the party.

What is it with Hope, Arkansas and it's impact on US Presidential politics? Is there something in the water down there??

What do you mean by a piss poor Aviator?

He only crashed once right?

Twice? Three times? Four times? More?

Oh his daddy was an Admiral, and his daddy’s daddy was also an Admiral, and so the reports of his incompetence were perhaps understated by the Navy?

Really?

I’d rather the Republicans nominated Condi Rice, than John McCain.

I agree that SHE is toast. SHE is a much easier target than Obama. However, their voting records, policies, and rhetoric are almost identical. Both are committed Marxists. Obama is totally unqualified to lead. He is the ultimate empty suit. The rumor is that he would appoint the Breck girl as attorney general. These nightmare scenarios are frightening.
