My friends, I have to admit that I've been in a bit of a quandary since the Real Conservatives ® Thompson and Hunter dropped out of the race leaving us to to place our bets on one the four headless horsemen. But after having a day or three to sort it all out, I'm beginning to see a ray of hope.
Number one, my worst fear that the pro-abortion, pro-gay, anti-gun social liberal Rudy Giuliani might be nominated, and thereby bring an abrupt and unholy end to the pro-life conservative movement within the GOP has been allayed. His evil culture of death platform has been soundly rejected by the Republican voters. Thank God! If nothing else is gained, that alone is a huge victory for us!
And that leaves us with the unwelcome slippery task of having to determine and select the least evil of the three remaining RINOs. But wait! When choosing between evils, why not choose the good?
McCain is insane and there are many good reasons not to choose him, but I'll list just five: McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, McCain-Lieberman, the Keating 5, and the Gang of 14. No thanks. McCain is out!
Romney ran on a pro-abortion platform, is pro gay rights, is prone to BIG government solutions, promises anything to anyone for a vote, and flip-flops on important issues. Can't trust him.
Now Governor Huckabee. Could this be the good vs evil? He's a Baptist minister. A genuine 100% pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, Southron Christian social conservative!
And that would be my reason no. 1 to support Huckabee. He has the trust and backing of the Christian evangelicals and the support of the Bible Belt. You cannot win the presidency without the South, and I believe the pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-America Mike Huckabee is the most likely of the three GOP hopefuls to carry the South. And that's a pretty darn good reason!
My number two reason is that he is NOT McCain (and that's a pretty darn good reason too).
Number three (and this will be a tough one for a lot of my FReeper Friends) is that he is NOT Romney.
Numbers four and five are he's NOT Hillary and NOT Obama. Oohrah!
Number six, he plays a mean bass and he's a traditional favorite at Free Republic's infamous quadrennial Inaugural Balls in Washington, DC. Perhaps we could persuade President Huckabee to drop by our ball and perform his rocking rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama!" Now, wouldn't that be a hoot!
Number seven, if we can keep Huckabee in the race all the way through, thus preventing McCain or Romney from gaining enough delegates to win the nomination, then maybe, just maybe a deadlocked convention might seek out another candidate. One who can re-unite the Reagan Coalition, save the GOP, and put us back on the conservative track. Of course, my personal favorite to be that man would be FRed Thompson.
Woo hoo!!
Let it ring out through grassroots America and on to the convention! Support life! Support the GOP! Support Huckabee! And re-draft FRed Thompson!!
Never give in, never give up, and never lose hope.
Long live the Reagan Revolution!
Jim, you worship that youtube video like it was issued by GOD Himself ---
That's what people of cult's (of personality) do, Jim. They perceive themselves to be infallible.
If you TRULY practiced loving Christianity, you would recognize that Saul of Tarsus ALSO was wrong (like Romney) -- yet as PAUL -- he apologized and went on to be directed of God to write some of the most inspirational Books of the Bible.
If you can't accept an apology from someone, then you obviously believe yourself to be infallible, and that is a shame.
Ok; it's a given: there are NO conservatives in this race.
NOT!
There ARE some, but they got's no dinero!
What ARE we to do???
>> When asked who they would have voted for if their candidate had not been on the Florida ballot, 35 percent of the Huckabee voters said McCain, compared to 26 percent who said Romney. <<

Nod. There is a fantasy among Mormons, who basically have a rivalry (putting it nicely) with evangelicals, that Huck is taking Romney votes. It’s vice versa. Most of those Huck voters would go to McCain. Romney would get some . . . but not this Huck voter for example. It’s a sort of two-sided view of things among the Mormon supporters of Romney — in one the distrust of the Mormon church and evangelists is supposed to be terrible and bigoted and we are unfairly not looking at Romney. On the other, Huck is taking away Romney voters. The two in combination don’t make sense. It’s an example of “any stick is good enough to beat the Christians with.”
So, you are egotistical enough to believe the owner of the site has to agree with you or you will “take your toys and go home”?
The elections will be over eventually...and then we can all get back to normal.

Rush says that a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain.

Huckabee yesterday said that this line is one of desperation. A vote for Huckabee is a vote for Huckabee. Huck is right.
Paul is apparently running on Soro’s money
__________________________________________
Any support for that? I’ve decided that Ron Paul is a good thing for conservatives; he’s introducing a whole class of people to small government, constitutionally rooted thinking that they would NEVER have considered it without a real outsider (and the Iraq war stuff makes R.Paul palatable to them). If true, this is another example of Soros’ meddling working to the good. God takes all things and turns them to the good for his people!
Or do you really like the RINO's we are getting saddled with THAT much?
I've been bitching about the GOP's leftward slide since they shoved "Brady Bill" Bob Dole down our throats, then tried to follow his lackluster performance up with some idiot "compassionate conservative" that was an even worse RINO than the last one.
Keep your teeth together unless you've got a better idea.
I wouldn't bet on him carrying Arkansas.
I’ve already made my remarks about Huckabee on this thread, but it is interesting to consider what effect a brokered GOP convention would have on the election.
It would drive the Democrats crazy for several months, because they wouldn’t know which target to aim their attacks at, while we’re hurling everything we’ve got at their chosen candidate. (But more likely, we’d be spending most of our time infighting.)

We would have to identify a good non-profit conservative org to throw some money at for attack ads against the chosen Dem nominee. And you are right . . . it’s a funny thought that we conservatives would have the target identified and the liberals wouldn’t . . .
Michelle Malkin on Mike Huckabee's Open Borders Record with video of Mike saying he approved of tuition for illegals.
From one of her links:
In 2003, on a visit to Mexico, he asked Vicente Fox to establish a consulate in Arkansas. Huckabee even arranged discount office space in a state office: just $1 per year.
Since the consulate opened earlier this year, it's passed out countless "Matricula Consular" ID cards to illegal aliens. Those cards help illegal aliens send billions of dollars back home, helping to prop up the corrupt Mexican government. And, their consul even encouraged civic leaders to advocate for illegal immigration.
Another source everyone loves to quote on FR and an expert on the subject, Roy Beck of Numbers USA:
"He was an absolute disaster on immigration as governor," said Roy Beck, president of NumbersUSA, a group that played a major role in rallying the phone calls that helped defeat this year's Senate immigration bill. "Every time there was any enforcement in his state, he took the side of the illegal aliens."
Immigration group: Huckabee a 'disaster'
Again...in his own words ('splain these loosey):
Gov. Mike Huckabee says he's not afraid of risking his political future by speaking out against a recent immigration raid at an Arkadelphia poultry plant even though calls to his office have been "about 1,000 to one" against his stance.
Huckabee risks political fortunes to denounce immigration raid
When people say illegal immigrants take jobs from Americans, Huckabee said he asks them to name someone "who cannot get a job because a Mexican illegally here has taken the job they want."
"If that's the case, if you can get me their name and phone number by five this afternoon, I can have them making a bed, plucking a chicken, tarring a roof or picking a tomato by the morning at 8 o' clock," he said. No one has been able to give him a name, he said. Illegal immigrants have jobs Americans don't want, he said.
Arkansas Gov. Huckabee discusses immigration reform, gun rights
Wrote in his 2007 book that implementing strict enforcement of immigration laws would be sheer folly and that it made sense to give those here illegally a process through which they pay a reasonable fine in admission of their guilt for the past infraction of violating our border laws and agree to adhere to a pathway toward legal status and citizenship. (Mike Huckabee, From Hope to Higher Ground, 2007, p. 117-118)
When Republican state senators in Arkansas proposed legislation modeled after Arizonas Proposition 200 [to require proof of citizenship for voting and public benefits], Huckabee described it as inflammatory ... race-baiting ... demagoguery. He said the bill, which seeks to forbid public assistance and voting rights to illegal immigrants, inflames those who are racist and bigots and makes them think theres a real problem. But theres not. (Governor says anti-illegals measure could scare off companies like Toyota, A ssociated Press, 2/3/05)
No thanks.
Look, this thread was done kind of tongue-in-cheek and I'm not really asking anyone to vote for Huckabee or even support him for his sake, or vote for anyone else for that matter. I no longer have a dog in this race other than I'm hoping our eventual RINO nominee is at least pro-life and is one who can carry all the Red states, including the bible belt. We're going to need them.
I just think the possibility of a brokered convention where there could be a possibility of pulling in a well-rounded reliable conservative is an interesting development and is worth the discussion".
For those who missed this post...Bump.

...but no thanks.
I’ve said my piece in post #134. I’ve warned them repeatedly and daily since the day the Huckster announced his candidacy. None are so blind as those who will not see. It’s 1991 all over again except this time it’s the GOP falling for slick talk and charisma hook, line, and sinker. I think I’ll start focusing on the 2012 election. This one appears to be lost for conservatives. I’ve survived though Carter and Clinton, I suspect I can survive another Clinton or even an Osama.
In four years, none of the "Four Horsemen" we have running now, will be back.
So we have 3 years to start looking for a real conservative who CAN win.

Srooy, J.R., but you have lost your mind. Goodbye, it was nice while it lasted.

In a race with no unarguable conservatives left in the race, we should be kinder to each other. We all are making some sub-optimal choice. Vote McCain (amnesty). Vote Romney (appointed homosexual activists judges). Vote Huckabee (raised taxes). Don’t vote (let the Dems have the country in the middle of a war and appoint 2 or 3 S.Ct. justices). We can all slam the others choice, but there is no “pure” conservative option left anymore. I’m with Robinson; the only hope for a unifying conservative nominee is an incredible long shot of a contested convention where the party operatives and workers as delegates sieze control and nominate a true conservative. Why not go with the only shot we have?
Duncan Hunter: “I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail,” said Hunter. “Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America's industrial base.”
“Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee’s candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee,” Hunter concluded.
Huckabee only mentioned one person for Secretary of Defense, Duncan Hunter:
What you do, he [Huckabee]explained, 'is surround yourself with the best possible advice. The only name he [Huckabee] mentioned was Representative Duncan Hunter of California. Duncan is extraordinarily well qualified to be secretary of Defense, he [Huckabee] said.
Hunter undoubtedly had a closer look at Huckabee than conservative media commentators who have never met Huckabee or people commenting on a forum who have never bothered to research original sources or take a close look at what Huckabee actually says rather than what others are saying about him.
I agree with Huck on the “a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain” argument. It stinks of desperation. A vote for Huckabee is a vote for Huckabee. Most Huck supporters would go McCain rather than Romney if Huck were to drop. Romney’s vote totals would go up — but McCain’s would go up more.
But how is Huckabee on the issues of illegal immigration and border security?
