Fox News' Special Report noted that "in recent days, Thompson's aides promoted him as a vice presidential pick." Romney was the first to weigh in." Asked if Thompson would be on his "shortlist," Romney answered, "Anybody who ran for office in this field is a very strong individual and should be considered as a VP nominee for me or somebody else. He is a terrific and highly capable guy."

As long as the definition of "conservative" is living and breathing he is.
Your tag line: That is what he said, but is that how he ran his administration as Governor? I don’t think so.
WHO or WHO? I would expect any presidential candidate to announce, after nomination, a nationally known figure who would seem to be likely to complement the Pres. candidate's talents, as well as help attract voters from a strategic area.
Thanks to Carl Rove appointing Gerry Parsky, it's almost non-existent. They screwed GOP nominee Bill Simon and waited until they could foist Arnold under false pretenses. Had the CAGOP supported Simon in 2002, he would likely be governor today under very different circumstances.
Take the hint.
Mark Sanford—Governor of South Carolina would be perfect. Desert Storm Vet, successful Governor, ets. Would also tick off Senator Grahamnesty.
I would vote that ticket against any likely democrat ticket
If the Clintons manage to beat off Obama by continuing to diss black voters the addition of Steele might have massive results in the fall.
“Will the Mormon Church take advantage of this PR opportunity? Of course they will. They are proselytizers through and through.”
I respectfully disagree with your allegation. Perhaps you never saw this thread:

Seems to me that the LDS Church is going out of its way to make sure that missionaries not talk politics at all.
LOL
What difference does it make without conviction?

It appears to me that most of the folks switching to Romney are doing so with poignant reluctance; his popularity is mostly illusion dominated by half-hearted supporters.
For my part, were Thompson to endorse Romney or join the ticket as VP, my thinking would remain the same: Romney will stay the leftward course that created the Hillary nightmare in the first place. The ONLY solution to this nightmare is for the Republican party to change course.
My only option at this point for working toward a change in course is to reject Romney and the rest of the Republican primary candidates. The short-term consequences of a Democrat in the White House will be dire, but the long-term consequences of endorsing Romney as the chief representative of the Republican party would be worse.
This election is a battle worth losing if it gives Republicans a better chance to win the war -- and it would.
Two observations:
(1) Thompson was in this race to be president, not someone else’s sidekick. If Thompson was to accept such a position as VP, then he will have sold out. Personally, I don’t think Thompson would ever stoop this low...doesn’t fit the man’s profile.
(2) I wonder what type of stuff Romney uses to keep his lips soft??? I ask this because he is sooo quick to kiss backsides that I can only assume this would be important to him.

Romney-Barbour? Two guys who get the job done and don’t blame others.
Well, that gives me something to pray for, then.
:)
thanks!
Is there a connotation in your statement to be taken seriously? /snicker
Worthy of a repost Finny!
When was the last time that the Republicans nominated a presidential candidate through a brokered convention? By the way, I thank you for all of your illuminating posts! :^)
Well, yes you do. And I will bet there have been a few that said no.
