Morton Blackwell endorses Romney
Townhall ^ | Jan 24, 2008 | Matt Lewis

Thursday, January 24, 2008 Romney Scores Veteran Conservative Endorsement Posted by: Matt Lewis at 4:19 PM Jonathan Martin reports that conservative icon (and personal hero to yours truly), Morton Blackwell has endorsed Mitt Romney for President. (Previously, Morton had endorsed Fred Thompson.)

While Morton Blackwell may not be a household name, he is, without a doubt, one of the most important conservative leaders in America.

It's safe to say he has acolytes serving in the highest echelons of government -- as well as in every major GOP presidential campaign.

Here's one small example that will give you a glimpse into how influential Blackwell is:

Everyone knows National Review, RedState, and Townhall.com are three of the top outlets for conservative new media, right? Well, five years ago, National Review's Mark Hemingway, RedState co-founder Mike Krempasky, and yours truly, all three worked for Morton Blackwell (we are by no means the most prominent of his proteges).

Well, its either Romney or Huckabee now if you are a conservative and four years of McCain or Hillary doesn’t give you a nervous attack.

You know if McCain wins the nomination and loses, I think anyone challenging Romney in 12 is going to have an uphill battle, especially after he spends the next 4 years proving up his conservative bf’s.

Well... I gotta admit that Romney’s a pretty flashy dresser, so this isn’t surprising.

I’m still mad at Blackwell for reading a book during Congressman McDonald’s funeral. It is not nice to read at memorial services. Somebody should tell the zip-wad to shut the book or stay away.

If McCain gets nominated and loses, I hope we can do a lot better than Romney in 2012 - like Hunter or a real solid conservative Repubnlican.

But anyway, let’s pray that Romney or Huck takes out the McCain Monster. At this point either one is acceptable to me compared with McCain - the man who cannot win.

He may not have too.

If he gets Fred as VP, he may take the edge of his Neo-Con ways.

But I have looking at Mitt differently the last couple of days.

Contrast and compare the Clinton's Vs. Romney's.

A dysfunctional husband/with a shrill of an enabling wife with a megalomania complex to boot vs. a tall good looking Husband and Wife with a gaggle of successful kids.

A man that seeks pleasures in odd places in many forms vs. a man that still probably thinks Hot Chocolate is big fun.

A man that is essentially trying to seek a third term via his wife, vs. a guy that thinks he can truly do something for the country and may even have a vision.

A man that may someday be found with giggle joint kittens vs. a man that may have a throng of volunteers that Rush refers to as Mittens.

A couple who you are not sure you would want as in-laws, vs. a couple that you couldn't wait to have join the family

So tell me, who are the great undecideds going to pull the lever for? Someone who is not likable vs. someone who is.

He is a good man, and a great conservative, in the State of Virginia.

He was a good endorsement for Fred Thompson, and now a good endorsement for Romney.

I wonder what other Virginia icons will switch their endorsements now.

I actually think Fred would be a pretty poor choice for VP. Had he not run and just teased us, rather than running the way he did, he would have seemed like a great choice (until he hit the campaign trail). But knowing what we do now, I can’t see Romney choosing him and he would be very foolish to do so, in my opinion.

Fred’s a great conservative but he is a useless campaigner.

We would all love to see the guy in the government. But, please, not on the campaign trail.

Fred is one hell of an old time campaigner, but in the age of American Idol, that seems to be an issue this day and time.

That says more about us as a nation than it does Thompson.

As for me, I am endorsing Asteroid 2007 TU24 as out best hope against the Democrats in November. It is rock solid on a number of key issues.
