Dear fellow Fredheads,
It's time to support Mitt Romney. Can Mitt win in a general election? I don't know. Certainly he has always had a better chance than Fred. And if the opposition is Hillary Clinton, then maybe.
McCain can beat Hillary. But McCain is, well, McCain.
To be honest, I'm not as down on McCain as most of my fellow Jawas and you, the readers. But that's just because I've been a one-issue guy since right around, oh, let me see, I think the date was 9/11/2001.
But still, McCain doesn't get that the border is tied in with our national security.
Mitt does. And he seems to get the war on political Islam.
Sure, Rudy also seems to get both, but it's probably too little too late for him.
I'm hearing some oddball theory that a lot of Fredheads are natural Huckabee supporters. That's insane. Like, certifiably insane.
It's built on the presumption that the evangelical supporters of Thompson are in the same boat as the evangelical supporters of Huckabee. I got news for Tom Edsell: they aint the same animal. Sure, they may have the same funny accent, and so I'm guessing that to an outsider like Edsell the presumption is that they must be the same species. But they're not.

“He also stated he was for Roe before he was after Roe.”
So did McCain, yet many say he’s a ‘true’ prolifer and Romney is not.
“He supported amnesty before he was against it.”
He never supported amnesty nor the McCain-Kennedy bill nor the Z visa. He immediately opposed amnesty when the bill came out and has been consistently against a ‘special path to citizenship’.
“I have utterly no idea what Romney stands for, other than he wants to be president.”
Then you are not even trying.
This is a thorough explanation of his record, accomplishment, positions and platform.

On September 18, 2007, Governor Mitt Romney released his Strategy for a Stronger America, a 68-page compilation of his policy proposals to bring conservative change to Washington and meet the new generation of challenges confronting our nation.
In the Introduction of the document, Governor Romney lists some fundamental principles he would use to guide his decisions as President to meet the challenges facing our country:
Our military superiority cannot be compromised
Our government must remain federalist and governing should be conducted as close to the people as possible. Washington today is not the solution, it is part of the problem
Money and resources are best used when they remain in the hands of the people. A competitive America is one where taxes are low and government is small
Free market principles built the American economy. Unleashing the power of free markets is key to our economic future
Culture determines the strength of a nation. American values must be cherished and developed in each generation
Government should be accountable and transparent. Government service is a privilege and government officials should be held to the highest ethical standards
Bigots, hm? Those who think Joseph Smith was a clever liar who deceived many into believing his fiction, including Romney?
I'm not voting *for* anyone now this cycle. I'll merely vote *against* Hillary. You don't have my vote, Romney. Slimey -- that's what you are. Slimey.
The candidate who wouldn’t put on the fireman’s hat that was offered him is no longer in the race.
Romney connects with the voters, in ways that seem odd, but somehow work. Who would have thought some 60-year-old white guy in a suit badly singing “who let the dogs out” would actually get a warm reception at an MLK rally?
If I have a choice between a man who will do what it takes to get a vote, and a man who will do nothing to get a vote, I chose the guy who works for the votes, because the guy who doesn’t can’t get any votes and is out of the race.
How does someone(fredheads) go from viciously trashing Mitt Romney months on end to supporting him in a matter of one day? I’m sure that Romney will take it, but to me that seems awfully fickle.
Because you don’t respect his decision to drop out of the race? If you want to prove the Reagan revolution isn’t over, write in Ronald Reagan.
His performance was not inspiring, but the crowd was hardly “unenthusiastic”.
It is called evolution and it is exactly what transpired with Reagan....only to a much greater degree with him.
Why don’t you grow up, do some research and posts truths here on FR. Something that we might actually benefit from.
Your constant attacks on Romney are lame and childish and do nothing for the process, your candidate, conservatism or the furtherance of this website.
There’s a video. DOn’t take someone’s word for it, go watch the video. It was on fox, and it’s posted as a thread somewhere yesterday.
I watched it, and I’ll tell you that the anti-mitt descriptions were false. But to prove that is the case, I’m recommending you go see the video. I wouldn’t do that if I thought you’d be repulsed by it.
Ah, so that prohibits me from countering the complete and utter bullcrap that the respective toadies are spewing on the forum about the 'true' conservatism that their dudes have been spouting for such a short length of time.
I have so many folks now pi**ing on my leg and telling me that it's raining that I have to invest in a complete body Gore-Tex body suit.
Wrongo. You don’t have to choose at all. Just leave that unpleasant and distasteful drudgery to somebody else.
This is most especially true with respect to those who’ve established avoidance-avoidance psychologial defense mechanisms.
Poor taste, considering that Heath Ledger just died....
I believe we have been hearing the most from the loudest bunch of Fredheads---
The vast number of Fredheads were in fact Fredheads, but also were classy in their own right in that they could say "I like this guy because" without relying on the bar room brawl tactics.
The minority of Fredheads were the ones bashing. The rest cheered their guy on but were at least cordial about it.
Reagan's conversion did not coincide with a run for a different office.
Why dont you grow up, do some research and posts truths here on FR. Something that we might actually benefit from.
Why don't you quit the bullcrap? You ain't fooling anyone other than those who choose to be fooled. Mitt's shifting positions are public record. Only unprincipled spinners try to pretend otherwise. Mitt has no core values that I can see from his political history. They change and adapt for the particular seat he is seeking.
My wife saw it, and she ain't a chronic Mitt booster like you, so I give her a bit more creedence. She was howling about how stupid Mitt looked as he YET AGAIN pandered to anyone he thought might vote for him.
Elsie,
I would liken this to render unto Caesar (who was a pagan)the things of Caesar and render unto God the things of God. A perfect analogy being the US (Roosevelt) and Britain (Churchill) having to make an alliance with the evil Soviet Union (Stalin)during the Second World War to deal with the greater evil of the Tripartite Axis (Hitler, Mussolini and Tojo). Not desirable to them but necessary for Western survival. But we’ll have to see.
Uh, couldnt find that - could only find this from his governor days ...
In July 2006, despite a heavily Democratic anti-gun Legislature in Massachusetts, Gov. Romney signed a NRA-backed bill (H. 4552) reversing burdensome regulations for the makers of customized target pistols sold in Massachusetts. The Gun Owners’ Action League praised Gov. Romney for his support of H. 4552.
“Governor Mitt Romney today signed legislation approving an exemption for the makers of customized target pistols, who due to a provision within state law have found it increasingly difficult to do business in Massachusetts.”
...”Target shooters are an important part of our membership and I know they will be very pleased with this change,” said James Wallace, Executive Director of the Gun Owners Action League.
(Office of Gov. Mitt Romney, “Governor Romney Approves Exemption for Target Pistols,” Press Release, 7/26/2006)
Governor Mitt Romney signed legislation aimed at providing one clear definition of a loaded shotgun or rifle for the state’s hunting enthusiasts. For years, two competing definitions had existed on the books, leaving law abiding gun owners wondering when and how they can enter or cross a public way with their firearms.
“On behalf of the lawful gun owners of the Commonwealth, I would like to thank Governor Romney and all who took part in the passage of this legislation. We have taken another important step in reforming the 1998 gun laws,” said Jim Wallace, Executive Director of the Gun Owners’ Action League. “This new law addresses a conflict that had previously caused great concern in those who use traditional muzzle loading rifles and shotguns. Now they confidently know what is expected of them and can enjoy their heritage without the fear of being prosecuted for violating a poorly written law.”
(”Massachusetts Clarifies Muzzleloader Law,” Buckmasters, 11/22/2005)
Governor Romney: “Some argue that our principles of federalism and local control require us to leave the issue of same sex marriage to the stateswhich means, as a practical matter, to state courts. Such an argument denies the realities of modern life and would create a chaotic patchwork of inconsistent laws throughout the country. Marriage is not just an activity or practice which is confined to the border of any one state. It is a status that is carried from state to state. Because of this, and because Americans conduct their financial and legal lives in a united country bound by interstate institutions, a national definition of marriage is necessary.”
(”The Importance of Protecting Marriage”, Letter from Gov. Romney to U.S. Senators, 6/02/2006)
Governor Romney was presented with legislation concerning life issues on several occasions from the 85% majority Democrat Legislature in Massachusetts. In every instance he took the pro-life position by vetoing bills or lobbying for the pro-life approach, including the following actions:
He vetoed the bill providing state funding for human embryonic stem cell research
(Theo Emery, “Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney Vetoes Stem Cell Bill,” The Associated Press, 5/27/2005)
He vetoed a bill that provided for the “morning after pill” without a prescription because it is an abortifacient and would have been available to minors without parental notification and consent
(Governor Mitt Romney, Op-Ed, “Why I Vetoed Contraception Bill,” The Boston Globe, 7/26/2005)
He pledged to veto any bill that would expand access to RU-486, the abortion pill
(Hugh Hewitt, “Interview with Governor Romney,” The Hugh Hewitt Show, 7/27/2005)
He vetoed legislation which would have redefined Massachusetts longstanding definition of the beginning of human life from fertilization to implantation
(Governor Mitt Romney, Letter To The Massachusetts State Senate And House Of Representatives, 5/12/2005)
He supported parental notification laws and opposed efforts to weaken parental involvement
(John McElhenny, “O’Brien And Romney Spar In Last Debate Before Election,” The Associated Press, 10/29/2002)
He fought to promote abstinence education in public school classrooms with a program offered by faith-based Boston group Healthy Futures to middle school students. Gov. Romney’s administration was the first in Massachusetts to use federal abstinence education funds for classroom programs.
(Office of Gov. Mitt Romney, “Romney Announces Award of Abstinence Education Contract,” Press Release, 4/20/2006)
He may have bowed out of the primary process, but because of how they put the names on the ballot, deadlines etc, we can still draft his a$$, or drag it out such to draft him in a brokered convention. Screw Miff, Julie Crossdresser, McPain and the Dope from Hope...
WE WANT FRED, WE WANT FRED WE WANT FRED
See post#375.
I do respect his decision to drop out. That doesn’t mean I still can’t write in his name. Please don’t try to think for me.
Nope.
