McCain must be defeated. He’d be a disaster.

I could support a Romney ticket if Fred was the VP

Whatever we're stuck with, we're stuck with. I do know this - I'm not going to stay at home and throw my vote away when the other possibility will be a closet muslim or the Second Coming of Clinton.

As this race continues, I think that it will be Romney who will look and sound more Presidential to prospective voters, while McCain will fade. I would expect Mitt to continue with strength.

As a caveat, however, I don’t know quite what to make of these ever-changing poll numbers.

McCain on the war against terror: ACLU trials for terrorists, no waterboarding, close down Gitmo, accused America of torturing terrorists in Iraq.

That is McCain’s record on the war on terror. Sounds identical to Hillary to me.

“Romney is the most conservative of the 4 who have a chance.”

Romney’s talks like a Conservative, but walks like a Liberal.

Any Republican candidate for pres. who does not mobilize the conservative base will lose, and right now the conservative base is angry at McCain

Those are the only two issues that separate McCain from a Democrat. But they are big issues. His stance on the war matters. His pro-life stance probably doesn’t because I doubt he would be willing or able to appoint judges like Bush has.

Romney reminds me of a GOP John Kerry.

Running on a TV persona of statesmanlike "gravitas" rather than true substance.

(Though Kerry's was shattered when they caught him in that bunny suit.)

I disagree with you. Romney is preferable to McCain. I’m from MA so I have some experience with Romney. I don’t like his stupid health care bill and he has a tendency not to want to get his hands dirty in an election. However, he’s a first rate administrator who will definitly appoint conservative judges and clean up what beaurocracy he can. On foreign policy, I believe he will stand for America first.

As for McCain, he will appoint “consensus” judges that his senate buddies will like, he’s concerned about world opinion regarding torture etc, and for all his spending cut talk, he’s a senator first and will not name names on spending bills. He won’t propose large tax cuts and would pretty much govern like Rockefeller would have.

Make no mistake, I’m a Fred man, but McCain is an odious man who needs to be taken down. I prefer Rudy over him. The huck is a joke so I won’t even bring him up.

Was Rudy on top when they voted?

Actually, it was McCain by a coupla points, even as far back as the 14th.

I am hoping for Romney/Thompson myself.

Exactly. Sitting at home and pouting on election day is not the thing to do. The worst Republican (and none of them is that great...even the sainted FRed) is still better than the best DemocRAT.

You’re right there. But he believes we ought to stay in to win. I just don’t know what Romney wants. And when he does try to say something, he sounds so tentative that I mistrust him. Regardless of who wins the nomination, though, I will support him against the dem running. It’s not even close who would make the better president.

At least McCain supports the war on terror and that is a priority. And he’s pro-life.

You forgot delusional, demented and in poor health. No thanks

You don't trust Romney, but you trust McCain? What have you been smoking? You trust the guy who gave us McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, the Gang of 14, and voted against the Bush tax cuts? You want a CIC who thinks that waterboarding (or apparently forgetting to turn the air conditioning on, for that matter) is torture?

Thompson is my choice, but Romney is *far* superior to McCain.

And he’s pro-life.

I am not saying he is not, just remembering to another year when he was asked what he would do if his daughter was raped?

McCain gave a answer that a pro choice person would give. He said something to the effect that it would be a private family decision and that we would support whatever decision she made.

If these numbers hold, Romney will be tough to stop.

It will still be McCain unless Rudy wins FL. Rudy is the only person who can beat McCain for NY and NJ. Romney can't.

I prefer Rudy over the ones left standing too. Can’t stand Huck. I don’t care for either McCain or Romney, but I’ve slowly come to mistrust Romney more. I agree with what you say about his being a good administrator. I just don’t trust him. Or should I say, my mistrust for him is slightly more than it is for McCain.
