Romney For President National Call Day 2008 Raises An Estimated $5 Million

Boston, MA – Today, Governor Mitt Romney announced that National Call Day 2008 has raised an estimated $5 million. About 500 Romney volunteer fundraisers from across the country joined Governor Romney in Boston today to call donors nationwide to raise both primary and general election dollars. Today marks the first Romney for President finance event in which general election dollars were raised. The success of today's event will help Governor Romney continue to compete nationwide and help communicate his message of bringing conservative change in Washington.

Governor Mitt Romney said, "National Call Day 2008 has been an extraordinary success. I am grateful to all of the fundraisers and donors who have helped us raise the resources we need to continue to be competitive in all 50 states. Washington is broken, and we all know that it will take someone from outside of Washington to bring conservative change to our nation's capital. Romney was unknown when this started. He didn’t have the name recognition of Thompson, McCain and Rudy. His investment has now given him that. Money well spent. Had he not done so, he would not be leading today.

$50B? Bah. With 6 million members in the US, or 1.5 million families, if each one owns a $100K house, you’re looking at $150B right there. And a lot of those are in CA. Let’s not even get started with that vast swatches of Idaho, Florida, Utah, Nevada, California, and other states owned on top of that. If I had to guess, it’s closer to $1T.

Watch out for all the Fred supporters admitting they were wrong when they predicted Mitt wouldn’t be able to raise a dime after the past week’s results.

But Fred’s doing fine as well, he’s close to raising the $500,000 he needs for the campaign commercial.

Well, I finally bit the bullet, and donated money to Romney.

While I supported him for a while, I hadn’t sent him any money because he’s a multi-millionare and I figured he didn’t need my money. Instead, I sent money to Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter.

But after everything that has happened, and how people misread a candidate who uses his own money, I decided it would be helpful for Romney to have more total names on his donor list.

As long as FT 's name is on my ballot I will vote for him. When the primaries are over and at the general election I will vote for the Republican candidate because no matter how bad a person may think they are a dem will be infinitely worse.

If/when Thompson drops out after SC, and we are left with Rudy, Huck and McCain, which is better than Romney?

Romney as POTUS would not be trying to ban any guns.

And even if I did think him a gun-grabbing threat, it hardly matters. My gun rights are not safer with RINO's McCain, Huck or Giuliani. What about Thompson you say? Thompson got 1% in NH. Yeah, he didn't campaign there, but 1% he should get for merely existing. He is going all out in SC, and is barely in double digits there. Romney was the choice of NH conservatives, and he still gets the highest product when you multiply [conservative] x [viability].

Thompson is likely to drop out after SC, and endorse McCain. If Romney were to do what you want and drop out, that would then give us the suicide watch choice of Giuliani, Huckabee and McCain. Is that what you want?

That’s odd for them, their 2nd “issue” that says he “reiterated”, is actually a “reiteration” from 1994. They usually get that stuff updated when there’s newer material, which in this case there is.

Romney supports instant check, and no longer supports a waiting period (which he supported to ensure that guns were not purchased by people with criminal records).

And while he still supports in theory the banning of a limited number of weapons, he will not support any new bans unless some new gun appears that is worse than anything that is currently legal.

That’s not a perfect position, but it’s hardly a major assault on the rights of people to own guns. Even if he does ban the purchase of a new weapon, the AWBs he has supported never took a gun away, merely prevented new purchases.

His web site is pretty clear, and he’s made some recent statements which have been quoted by me and others here.

So it seems we need to educate you on his explanation.
