Boston, MA – Today, Governor Mitt Romney announced that National Call Day 2008 has raised an estimated $5 million. About 500 Romney volunteer fundraisers from across the country joined Governor Romney in Boston today to call donors nationwide to raise both primary and general election dollars. Today marks the first Romney for President finance event in which general election dollars were raised. The success of today's event will help Governor Romney continue to compete nationwide and help communicate his message of bringing conservative change in Washington.

Governor Mitt Romney said, "National Call Day 2008 has been an extraordinary success. I am grateful to all of the fundraisers and donors who have helped us raise the resources we need to continue to be competitive in all 50 states. Washington is broken, and we all know that it will take someone from outside of Washington to bring conservative change to our nation's capital. Today's success shows the continued belief that I have the vision, values and experience to bring that change.

"This is going to be a long race, but we have some great momentum, and will carry that momentum into Michigan. The success of today's events shows a continued belief that I am the only Republican candidate who can match up against the Democrats in the fall. My campaign is about the future of our country, and I will be ready to go toe-to-toe with the Democrats in the general election."

Mitt is not my man, Fred is, but I think Freepers should think about the continual bashing of Mitt, because McCain and the Huckster are far, far worse. If either of them got the nomination I could not vote for them. I’m still on the fence about Mitt. Right now it’s mostly his supporters I don’t like.

From Rush Limbaugh’s web site today:

“But make no mistake: Governor Huckabee, at this stage, in my opinion, is in the race to take Romney out of the way for McCain. Just to hit off on this evangelical business, the thing Huckabee’s gotta understand is if you have made a deal with McCain behind the scenes, under the table, understand it’s one way, because McCain is going to throw you overboard as soon as he has to, Governor (laughing), when the time comes — and he’ll not remember the deal or it will get reshaped in his mind or somehow changed. McCain “also said he’d point out something that he’s not always been comfortable doing — that he’s voted the anti-abortion line for his whole career. ‘I’ll also try to make them remember that my social conservative record has been consistent and unchanging,’” and in that way he’s going to take out Rudy. So he’s going to try to get the Huckabee vote with the global warming route and try to get the evangelicals. He’s going to try to take Rudy out with his consistent abortion stand, which he’s not fabricating. He has been consistent on the pro-life issue.”

Just goes to show how broken hearted, down in the mouth and dispirited the Romney camp is. /sarc

Given that Romney has already spent more than all of his opponents combined, I don't see how this is significant to anyone other than his wife.

All the money in the world can't make Willard into a conservative. His record haunts him.

I would love a Romney/Thompson (or vice versa) ticket, and I think a lot of GOPers would as well. I think that would be one exceptional ticket.

Sheesh. Fred Thompson is struggling to raise $540,000 by January 11. I don’t know how much $$ he has on hand, but it’s probably nothing compared with Romney.

I have been wondering if Romney has pretty much 100% support among Mormons. Can anyone shed any light on that for me?

I am going to try to attend a Romney event and shake Mr. Romney’s hand and say hello when it’s Ohio’s time.

I doubt 100% but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in the 90s. Mormons tend to be very Conservative politically.

I could probably go for that, but I just don’t think either one of them wants to be VP. We shall see.

I just really hate the idea of McCain, who I have detested for years, or the Huckster getting the nomination. Makes me very sad for the Republican party and the nation.

COOL!!! :-) Hugh Hewitt said that the founder of Domino’s Pizza said, “It’s time for Mitt Romney.” I agree. There are things that need to get done in this country.

397.00 a vote, so a little less. Maybe he gets a discount in MI due to the lower property values...

Mr. Huckabee is not acting like a GOPer and neither is Mr. McCain.
