The New Rules of Marriage

Of course, there is much to disdain about The New Rules of Marriage, but what offended me most was its pervasive celebration of inequality amongst the sexes. Women want more out of relationships today so…men must give it to them. Why is that the case? In every equitable transaction, the side who asks for more must offer more in exchange. This leads us to ask, what do modern women offer men that is superior to what their predecessors proffered in the past?......

My whole question with this thread is; How can a grown man get in trouble? A grown man.

Can a woman get in “trouble”?

Not since the 1950's.

Not too deep into any time dating a woman I listen for the dreaded “ Oh, I can’t cook at all - I can’t even scrabble eggs! “. Sometimes this is said proudly!
Hell, I can cook and do a damned good job of it. I would hope she could too.

I can't scrabble eggs.

But I can scramble 'em.

*And* I'm pretty darned good at Scrabble.

And I'm a smart aleck who just *had* to jump on that typo...oh well. :-)

I actually cook better than my wife.

Oh she does a good job...and I appreciate every morsel. But I cook big things like roasts and stews alot better than her. We share probably 50/50 of the cooking. I do it so that she won’t mess it up.

But ooooooh don’t let me say that I cook better than my wife. Oh no. We all know that men are idiots and merely tolerated by women.....

Free milk and bimbos pollute DU.

Of course, they're usually ugly inside and out. In other words, the milk's curdled.

Just this past Sunday night.. a friend called me to see if I wanted to play in a poker tourney... I “asked” my wife if it was “OK”... But, I was GOING! I knew it, she knew it.. the whole damn world knew it! :-)

Unless she’d told me we were committed to a family funeral, I was going.

After 24 years of marriage, this is my way of communicating to her, that “Hey babe, I’m going to play poker tonight”. And, I get credit for being a “good guy”. You have to know how to play this game!

I can’t tell you how many women I have met who not only can’t cook but also don’t ever want to have children. That last part really saddens me. It saddens me further when I’m thinking about her telling me “ I can’t cook and don’t want children “ as I pay for our meal.
Yikes, almighty.

But the insulting and belittling is happening to the whipped men. That scenario is somehow OK. Thats acceptable. Or is it not?

If these men are seriously being 'whipped' by these women, then no, I do not find that acceptable. At all. ;~)

Typical. Dismiss, demean, belittle...just as long as you aren't the recipient.

Merely my qualitative assessment of your argument... buck up... don't get all emotional on me ;~)

How long have you been married to the same person?

The same person? I don't think my husband is married to anyone else.

“Hey babe, I’m going to play poker tonight”.

Some don’t understand. Its funny for a woman to have her man in check. Its mean for a man to, well, be a man.

Me:“Hey babe, I’m going to play poker tonight”.

Her:”no you’re not”

(ten minutes of laughter insues)

What? Is she gonna stand in front of the door? I am a foot taller than my wife and outweigh her by 100 pounds so we know thats an impossiblity.

I cannot imagine a woman that bitches and moans and cries and keeps their man’s testicles in her purse all the time.
Boy, I can’t wait to come home to that!!

You shouldn't want to make them feel small and stupid, man or woman.

Once, again. Feelings over reason. Proving my point (and tossing in a "whiny" accusation to further make my point).

BTW, I don't have the power to "make" anyone "feel" anything unless I've been granted that power. I learned that in cognitive therapy. True, couples invest trust in one another and a caring partner should not abuse that trust but I can't "make" her trust me any more than I can "make" her feel insulted. She has to come to that conclusion herself.

Some women (typically more than men) use the "make me feel" crutch as a way of changing the dynamics of an argument from fact-based to feelings-based, most often employed because they are losing the fact-based side of the argument. Using the phrase "make me feel" is a nice trick to endow victimhood on the feeler, as if the feeler had no possible choice but to feel that way and cast the blame on the other party.

When the argument is moved from reason to feelings, the man is now on the woman's home turf because she can then declare whatever feeling puts her at the best advantage. The man could then argue the facts until the cows come home and she will declare all of that irrelevent and less important than her feelings. Next, if the man hasn't yet surrendered to her all-important "feelings", she will lob a series of baseless accusations so the man has to waste his time defending his intentions which often had nothing to do with the original disagreement.

As I said, you are proving my point much more completely than you even realize. Thank you for illustrating that so that others here may see.

Now, you are free to respond by calling me a jerk, so you can feel better about the argument you just lost.

There’s a LOT of free, easy sex to be had. If you can’t get lucky in SF, you arent trying.

...Or you're easily grossed out by tattoos and piercings.

[those who make it about pride, make it about winning, do this at the expense of their spouse, the one person they should be devoted to protecting.]

You are very right HOTD. Every time I see a thread about dating or marriage I see a ton of men downgrading the women.
Most young women nowdays work a full job and need help around the house.

Watch the TV shows nowdays and you will see how the media had made men wimpy acting and the kids on TV and even in the comic papers are obnoxious brats.

It has its effect on society!

Having to ‘be right’ is an ‘ego’ thing!

Damn dude....

Thats a little bit more deep that I usually go but, yeah.

Hell yeah. Hear Hear!

Woman calls man an idiot:
Woman is independent, man is respectful (see whipped). Makes a good sitcom.

Man calls woman an idiot:
Woman is battered, man is a bully chauvinist pig. Man should be locked up.

I agree, and the women are arrogant b!tches. These caricatures are not good for the image of either gender.

I will give you an example, then I will butt out of your conversation.

Man says: The sky is blue.
Woman says: No its red.
Him: Its blue.
Her: Its red.
Him: I am looking straight at it. Its blue.
Her: But I don’t like blue. Blue makes me sad.
Him: I am sorry, but it really is blue.
Her: Stop saying its blue. Why are you making me sad?
Him: Its not my fault. It is blue. I didn’t make it blue.
Her: You obviously don’t care about me or you would be concerned about my feelings.
Him: I hate that blue makes you feel bad but its blue.
Her: Jerk!

In the end, the man is the a**hole.

LOL, yeah but that's the problem. If the man "wins" the argument, she storms off and the guy's not getting any for the foreseeable future. Most guys figure they'll concede the point rather than lose bedroom privileges. That's why guys talk about how they can "never win" because no matter how terrible her logic might be, he has to concede so as to spare her feelings and maintain the relationship.

To me, this parallels what happens when conservatives argue with liberals. If the conservative is winning the factual battle, the liberal quickly tries to make it emotional and, if the conservative doesn't rise to the bait, the liberal then lobs accusations ("racist", "sexist", "bigot", "homophobe", "wants to kill children", "wants grandma to starve", etc.) which the conservative then has to waste time defending even if they were irrelevent to the discussion, giving the liberal time to switch subjects.

At some point, the conservative just stops arguing about it, much like men stop arguing with women, because the liberal won't stick to the facts and present a fair rebuttal. The liberal would much rather switch to emotional arguments or character assassination because their logic is so easy for anyone intelligent to shoot down.
