He gave us Roberts.

WE gave us Alitto. He wanted to stick us with Harriet. Remember?

The damage he has done to America, the Republican Party and the conservative movement in America will take a long time to erase.

I fear that you are correct.

With the benefit of hindsight, I'm delighted that the GOP lost the last election, because that one night single-handedly turned W into a better president (changed the whole Iraq strategy into a surge that - surprise! - actually works, found his veto pen, etc). But the damage remains.

...Sadly, the President only gets to accept or decline whole pieces of legislation. That light bulb ban is one paragraph in the 822 page Energy Bill...which is how Congress gets what they want by tucking something ugly into a large bill...

There was also that paragraph about mandating auto fuel economy standards - the proper conservative action is spelled V-E-T-O! A patriot does not sign away liberty - he fights for it!

Bears repeating, because too many don't remember.

W gets exactly 1/2 credit for his SCOTUS nominees.

He will probably be appreciated most at Mexican Reunification Day celebrated in the former southwestern states.

He wanted to give us Harriet Miers. Kinda knocks the wind out of those sails...

He never has to "back down". Pre-emptive surrender on a whole slew of issues and co-opting the "bigger government" mantle from the Dems has allowed President Bush to get a lot done.

Not a lot he SHOULD have done, but a lot none the less...

Impressive, but not as impressive (or meaningful) as the rug-pull just engineered by GWB’s good friend Kay Bailey Hutchison in killing funding for the fence.

Huck is ok on abortion and 2A stuff. A complete lunatic on pretty much everything else. He's a "hold my nose" type for me, but better than any of the Dems.

Romney, Rudy, and McInsane lose my vote. Period. They are overt socialists and no better than any of the Dem candidates. I won't vote against my RKBA, or the rest of the BoR, no matter what goblins the socialists in the GOP want to toss up.

See my tagline.

If they don’t support gun rights they don’t get my vote.

Whatever else one might think, this part is not correct.

>>George Bush ran in 2000 on the promise to bring ...... and to “clean up the toxic environment in Washington, D.C.” While Bush’s critics will never allow this to be accepted, George Bush has done just that.<<

Great post Southhack. I appreciate your work. I love President Bush because he is a leader. What he isn't is silver tongued devil who makes excuses for what he believes in. He will do what he thinks is right, and stands by his decision. He doesn't stick his finger in the wind and see how the wind is blowing. He seeks out the facts from his advisers, and makes a decision. He's no Clinton, thank God. I don't always agree with what he decides, but I trust the man which is a lot more than I can say for some of the people running today. He makes me feel safe. I don't agree with him on the border issue, but that doesn't mean I see him as some kind of traitor to be deamonized. There are some people who you just can't please, no matter what you do. I can remember when some people were ripping President Reagan because he wasn't "conservative" enough. These are the professional complainers who no matter what you do it isn't good enough. Of course, they would never think of running for anything. They probably couldn't please themselves.

GW should be impeached and convicted by the Senate for failure to defend the people of these United States. To be more specific, he has failed miserably to defend our borders from illegal immigration, and has proven to be staunchly in opposition to the proposition that we are a sovereign nation by not enforcing existing laws regarding immigration.

He has also proven to be a globalist with respect to business (”...business sometimes trumps peace.”), and a socialist with respect to social issues (”...prescription drug legislation signed into law by President Bush is the largest expansion of federal spending since Johnson’s ‘Great Society’.”)

And let’s not forget all those pork barrel appropriations he approved!

Other than than, hey, he’s an all right guy!

Can't say I disagree with your post. I voted for Bush twice. Although I'm bitterly disappointed that he never saw the light on illegal immigration, he's done a stand-up job on the world stage - something better Presidents have tried and failed at.

Bush has his faults, but considering the other choices we had on election day, it was the right one to make.
