In addition to his own pioneer roots (i.e. Parley P. Pratt, Miles P. Romney, Eyrings, his father) Mitt Romney has certainly established his own deep LDS roots. He served a full-time mission, graduated from BYU, married in a LDS temple and served as a Bishop. Perhaps his longest experience in being in the thick of Mormonism was when he spent a decade as an LDS Stake President. The Mormon apologetics have been busy dealing with everything that comes with someone like Mitt running for President. I've put this thread up so Freepers could know what the Mormon apologetics are saying about this Mitt situation.
If he’s the nominee, Romney will lose in November. Not just because he’s a Mormon, though the MSM will demonize him for that. He’ll lose because he’s a flip flopper.

The apologists are easily seen on this site. They support Romney solely because he’s a Mormon, totally ignoring his record.
I am certain of one thing. I don’t want the candidates on the left. So, looking at the right, I want a man who has been a governor or mayor, with experience at managing government. The Governor is a successful businessman who also saved the Olympics. The Mayor ran NYC and kept his city together after the attack.
As for other issues conservatives hold dear, the main Presidential influence would be appointments to the Supreme Court. Unless Republicans can manage to win the Presidency, Senate, and the House, all the President can do is use the pen.
Bottom line, I’ll end up voting for the candidate on our side.

Rudy can’t beat Hillary - he’s already demonstrated that, as well as a general lack of fitness for the office. His personal life doesn’t even need to enter into it.

Who's demonized who?
The article mentions Parley Pratt, from whom Romney is descended. Parley's brother, Orson, made the following statements about Catholics & Protestants:
The gates of hell have prevailed and will continue to prevail over the Catholic mother of harlots, and over all her Protestant daughters; but as for the apostolical Church of Christ, she rests secure in the mansions of eternal happiness, where she will remain until the apostate Catholic church, with all her popes and bishops, together with all her harlot daughters shall be hurled down to hell... (Orson Pratts Works, p. 189-190)
"It was the apostate Catholics that first originated the idea and by them the fatal delusion has been handed down from generation to generation; and all the children that she has brought forth, or that have left her communion, have, more or less, imbibed the same great features of the apostasy. Notice that Pratt, in the first quote above said: The gates of hell have prevailed and will continue to prevail over the Catholic mother of harlots, and over all her Protestant daughters......
This is a direct reference to Jesus' words in Matthew 16:18 that the "I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it." In this one quote, Romney's extended relative has openly labeled Jesus as being a false prophet!!!
So, now that Romney's family has labeled all of us Catholics & Protestants as "whores," "harlots" & other niceties, what other labels could contemporary Mormons--not just historical Mormons--tag us with to "inspire" us to vote his way?
Why, they could call his voting base "apostates"--like all true-believing Mormons label "Christian sects." Why, they could label the "professors" of our "Christian sects" as "corrupt"--"ALL" of us! like LDS "Scriptures" testify [see Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith - History, vv. 18-20]. Why, they could label the "Christian sects'" "creeds"--ALL of them--as an "abomination in His sight." (Abomination=putrid).
Wow! Really? We're corrupt, putrid, harlot-whoring apostates according to Romney's extended family and according to his own LDS "Scripture" based-creeds. Wow! How motivating & inspiring this is to the Christian base to "get out there and vote!!!"

My first criteria for any candidate is whether they are (or profess to be) a Christian. Only after that hurdle do I look to the other factors to be evaluated. If that makes me a "religious" bigot so be it. There is no religious test for voters either and I can use whatever criteria I want. If that offends anyone - too bad.

The mormon boys who visited me were very sweet and polite, but when I closely examine what they were REALLY saying to me, I had to ask them...
“so...you think Jesus was not competent enough to choose men who could pass on the faith? The apostles couldn’t managed to properly teach their disciples? The first generations of christians - the ones being martyred by the emperors -were too dumb to understand?...”
Their eyes got wide, but they wouldn’t budge - they told me that upon the death of the last apostle, the Church fell in to “apostasy.”
yeah...I would say that is “demonizing” a heckuvalot of people.

Ah, excellent job cutting to the chase with the missionary boys by focusing on their subtle indirect view of Jesus as some incompetent, bumbling leader of the church.
Mormonism is unique in that it's one of the few cults that with great subtlety but indirectly mind you, labels all three members the Godhead of the Bible as "false prophets."
It does so, as I pointed out earlier in the thread thru both comments like Orson Pratt & the LDS claim to a 100% apostasy, that Jesus was a false prophet because He failed in both his prophesy & His mission to build a hell-resistant church:

A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. Theres the evidence for direct blasphemy & slander of Jesus.
What about Heavenly Father? In Ephesians 3, the apostle Paul is writing about kneeling before the Father in v. 14 and his glorious riches in v. 16 and his fullness in v. 19. Then Paul says: Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory IN THE CHURCH and in Christ Jesus THROUGHOUT ALL GENERATIONS, FOR EVER AND EVER! Amen. (Eph. 3:20-21)
LDS indirectly label the Father as one who is so weak that He couldnt maintain His promise to ensure that glory in the church would continue throughout all generations, for ever and ever!
For the third blasphemy or slanderthe slander of the Holy Spirit, what do LDS say here? Look at 1 Tim. 4:1: The Spirit CLEARLY says that in later times SOME will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
How do LDS commonly interpret this in their Bibles and literature? They commonly use this verse as a proof-text that there was a general 100% apostasy of the Church-at-large that occurred somewhere around the 4th century & didnt become restored for almost 1500 years. But the apostle says that the Holy Spirit speaks clearly on this: In the latter days or later times, there was to be no 100% apostasy. Some, not all, would depart from the faith. LDS say with subtlety that the Holy Spirit was mistaken; His vision was somehow cloudy when it came to the latter times. They have the both the gall to rewrite 1 Tim. 4:1 and think nothing of trouncing all over the Spirits clearly stated vision to the apostle Paul.
Why is there no repentance coming from LDS leadership thru the generations and decades about this? Why is there no call for renewal & reformation from grassroots Mormons as to how their leaders have misled them?
