Vermont town seeks Bush, Cheney arrests

By DAVE GRAM, Associated Press Writer 6 minutes ago

President Bush may soon have a new reason to avoid left-leaning Vermont: In one town, activists want him subject to arrest for war crimes.

A group in Brattleboro is petitioning to put an item on a town meeting agenda in March that would make Bush and Vice President Cheney subject to arrest and indictment if they visit the southeastern Vermont community.

"This petition is as radical as the Declaration of Independence, and it draws on that tradition in claiming a universal jurisdiction when governments fail to do what they're supposed to do," said Kurt Daims, 54, a retired machinist leading the drive.

As president, Bush has visited every state except Vermont.

The town meeting, an annual exercise in which residents gather to vote on everything from fire department budgets to municipal policy, requires about 1,000 signatures to place a binding item on the agenda.

The measure asks: "Shall the Selectboard instruct the Town Attorney to draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution, and publish said indictment for consideration by other municipalities?"

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday. The press office did not immediately respond to an e-mail.

Support for the measure is far from universal, even in Vermont, where the state Senate voted earlier this year to support impeaching the president. Anti-war rallies are regular occurrences here, and "Impeach Bush" bumper stickers are common.

By the way, the last Vermonters that were worth a damn were Ira and Ethan Allen.

My wifes family traces their family tree back to the founders of Vermont. Some of them fought in the civil war. Her family members cannot recognize Vermont anymore. They woke up one morning and realized their state was taken from them. They attribute it to the attitude of "minding ones own business" that most Vermonters have. In doing so, they missed that the liberals were taking over.

Slowly but surely her family is moving from the state. What could not be accomplished by the harsh winters and wars is being accomplished by the socialistic nature of those who have taken control of the state. My wife's family is being run out of town because it no longer resembles the home they loved.

What'd ya bet this unemployed Vermont nutter will want to indict other "warmongering" presidents next?
Wilson for WWI, FDR for WWII, Truman for Korea, Kennedy & Johnson for Vietnam, Clinton for Bosnia ...
But, wait. They're all Democrats--from back when their party stood for something. Oh, never mind.

I'm now boycotting any maple syrup bottle that has "Vermont" in small print on the label.

Easier to do than boycotting Ford for their gay agenda. There's no Ford in my future, anyhow.

10-4. But, honestly, I cannot find any reason that I would ever come to that part of the country. There is really nothing to draw me up there. The ONLY thing that I could even think of would be the fall colors in the areas. That would be it, but that alone will not cause me to come that far.

I have been to the Bangor airport twice on trips to Germany when stationed there. However, never during day light hours, and never left the terminal. I have seen many many programs on TV of the country and found it beautiful. I was stationed in Germany with a guy from Maine once. Nice fellow. However, I lived in Washington state for 14 years after my retirement from the Army, and waiting on my wife to retire from her bank job. When she did, we were gone in a flash. Back home to conservative Alabama. Having lived in that MARXISTS, SOCIALISTS, ABORTION LOVING, MILITARY HATING, HOMOSEXUAL PIG PEN, of a flaming pit of hell, I will never put myself in that position again. I lived in their pure, unadulterated, hate of America, the military, conservative, religious people. I lived behind the lines. I know what it is to live in complete and utter hell. I put up with those pigs for 14 years. I will not do that to myself ever again. We travel, but we do not stay long in those states. Maybe someday I might FLY up to Bangor, rent a car and drive out to the coastal areas. I’d like to see those. But, I cannot ever, think of putting myself under their forms of government ever again. I LEARNED how much I hate those who hate my country. When in the military, traveling as much as I did, being actually out of the country, living in Vietnam and in Germany (for 10 years of my 20 years in the military), I never really understood or had the time or information to gather, to come to understand these people. But, after living in WA state for 14 years, I found out that I detest and despise 50% of my fellow citizens, and wish that they would move to Soviet Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, Red China, North Korea, Iran, or some place like that so they could live with those they love.

You may want to reconsider about NH. Problem is, most of the New England states got infested with flatlanders who tried to remake the states into their own little utopias, then can’t understand what they’ve done.

The town of Brattleboro should deputize Mr. Daims, and send him on his merry way to try and serve the writ. Heck, I'd even consider contributing to a fund for his airfare to Washington, DC.

Now a bad idea. I don't think they would have much trouble finding accomodations for him in St.Elizabeth's.

In the case of Vermont, it was once a nice little Republican state. But Commies from Boston, New York, and other big cities moved there and took it over. There are some really creepy left wingers there. I feel sorry for the farmers, shop owners, and other small town Americana type folks there who woke up one morning and found themselves outvoted.

The White House is presidential and going to ignore it.

And miss out on the fun of seeing the Secret Service and the Town Marshall have at it? What a drag.

My beloved nephew has just started his first year at the University of Vermont, has already begun to spout the slogans of left-wing dogma, and I can already see his path to misery.

Solution: The next time he starts in on that crap, kill the goose that lays the golden eggs -- annoiunce that if that's the kind of horse dump he wants to study, that he'll do it on his own nickel.

Agreed. The only innoculation aginst left-wing dogma is to make him pay for his own school, and hence, get a part time job. I just graduated in 05. I used loans and a part-time job to get through school. I highly recommend it, those were some of the best years of my life.

They are moving in hoards to Florida and the Atlanta area. Birmingham, Alabama has seen a lot of new people moving into the area called Hoover. That is where the money is in Bham. Very nice homes and people who have educations, skills and jobs. Not like the slums of downtown, where I won’t even drive through when I am over that way. Hoover has nice malls, parks and schools, etc. Atlanta is a liberal hell hole. Criminals run the city government. Same with Bham, as I have heard the fine mayor is being investigated by the feds. Florida is a lost cause. It is being over run by liberals leaving the cold of NY, NJ, etc. They are turning Florida into a northern state. We will soon lose Florida every election. By 2012 or 2016, Florida will probably be solid red state. Bama I think is safe as they see Bama, Miss, etc. as still in the 1860s. Plus, all of we red necks have guns. And we know how to use them.

Dubya ought to drive through, just to see the Secret Service kick the crap out of any moonbat local cop trying to do an arrest

He never defends himself.

If I were him, I march right into that local town hall and explain to these morons that Hussein was in material breach of the cease fire he signed in 1991 for not allowing inspections, and so his regime got changed.

Ballgame.
