It is a curious position for a paleowhatever to use SCOTUS as a source of "constitutional" wisdom. The usurpations of John Marshall, Roe vs. Wade, Lawrence vs. Texas (seeing homosexual activity as a "constitutional" right) ad nauseam. So, some letter of Lee overcomes his distinguished lifetime to the contrary??? Don't think so. It is the Commonwealth of Virginia, BTW. His oath at West Point was loyalty to Virginia. The oath of cadets after the invasion of South Carolina was changed to an oath to "the" United States.

Common sense and a capacity for reading the actual terms of the constitution are not the definition of "paleo" or you obviously would not be one.

I’m not particularly cheered to see people turn to bile for entertainment, especially this time of year.

Well, then this will really suck for you: I have two close friends incountry right now, patrolling the Baghdad area. One of them survived an IED attack earlier this year, the other is there for his second tour and was eager to go. He was eager to go because brain dead copperheads like your chosen candidate have been desperately trying to undue the victory he and his friends put their lives on the line to get.

I don't care if you think it's "bile" when I recognize the idiocy of the copperhead Paul, and I don't care if you have a nasty Christmas because of it. I only care that those men come home alive (something Ron Paul makes harder) and come home victorious (ditto) and that the brothers-in-arms they've lost haven't died in vain. I don't really give a whit if you think I'm not nice enough about it because it's December 21st. I care for the families who will have Christmas every year without a son or a daughter, who today can at least say their kid died for something, but will not be able to say so if you and Paul get your way.

Too harsh? Too bad. I don't have goodwill to offer to people who are working against my country's survival, or against the survival of people who used to sit and watch Packer games with me and now put their bodies between me and the enemy.

So, to reiterate, Ron Paul is a saboteur. He should be arrested and exiled, and his FR supporters should be zotted. If that's too bilious for you, wash it down with some egg nog, sport.

Yeah, but he also wants to surrender to Al Qaeda everywhere ASAP, poses as a social conservative while intending to do nada to stop abortion and gay marriage on a federal level because of his curious “constitutionalist” imaginings, thinks Congress should micromanage wars (if we really MUST have wars which he apparently denies since he prefers Kumbaya and free trade w/o the treaties and bureucracies rather than tariffs and aggressive trade policies) and a number of other disqualifiers.
