And there are still some Rudy supporters here at FR. I mean my goodness, we have a bunch of Ron Paul supporters running around.
I understand why Jim did what he did back in this spring. There were some deeper issues there than somebody just simply supporting Rudy. It is that people were openly defending a lot of liberal positions ! and that just didnt stir the kool-aid.
When you have people defending abortion on a website dedicated to the values and the party of Ronald Reagan..

What Paul is saying (in what I gather from the transcript) is that there is a serious problem when people are voting for a single, mindless reason. Too many conservatives choose a candidate (or a party) simply because they are supported by their religious institution. Of course this can happen on either sides, but I come across more mindless conservatives than anyone else (especially in my own family).
Whether he calls Huckabee a fascist or any other name, the problem remains that most christians will get the gist that Huckabee is pro-christian or something, and that he will make sure that they get everything they ever want! Well evaluate his policies before you decide that he’s “pro-christian”. My family voted for Bush twice because that’s who the Vatican supported. Great friggin’ idea.
It’s a good thing people dissent from what the christians arbitrarily assign as true, otherwise we’d still believe the world is flat.
Wow... You don’t realize that your view is simply by definition right? God is the greatest thing EVER... By definition. I’m not saying I can disprove God, or even that I don’t believe in God. But you must understand that when atheists and agnostics take God and the Devil out of the equation (hypothetically, of course and for the purpose of experiment) the only person to blame for one’s actions is oneself!

I dont want people to misread a figure of speech,
1. He wants to bring troops home from many overseas deployments, which makes sense in a lot of cases-I don't see what the point is in keeping thousands of troops in the middle of Europee, much less having them indirectly help Albanian-Muslim terror syndicates and narco-mafia in the Balkans as part of multinational forces. However, he simultaneously opposes putting them on our So. border, which would be the most effective deterrent to the full-bore invasion we're experiencing from Mexico.
2. What exactly would be the point in withdrawing thousands of troops from the ROK, when we would just have to deploy them again when the DPRK uses our withdrawal as a signal to once again invade its democratic So. neighbor?

To a point, I agree you have to ‘thin the herd’...but I’m always a bit leery about shutting down an entire point of view, if only because you end up with an ‘echo chamber’ instead of a political forum used to hone debating points.
Your state is part of Super Tuesday, while we in Texas do not have our primary until March. No doubt many of these supporters are normally leftist Democrats who are drawn to Paul because he is antiwar and states rights oriented, which would be a good deal for a socially liberal state like New York. However, the Democratic side is beginning to look like more of a horse race, rather than a coronation. As a result, many of these potential Paul voters may decide to return to their political roots and vote for Obama or Edwards.

BTW, IMO the idea that "conservatives", more accurately Republicans, choose candidates based on religious denomination is absurd. I doubt anyone other than your family voted for GWB because he was the Pope's choice.

People here need to be registered party members, so unless you decided to reenroll in a different party a year in advance simply to meddle in its nominating process this shouldn't really be an issue.

The Clinton campaign has returned donations made through the Hsu organization. Why? Why not have kept them by your logic? Yet if her campaign was right in returning them, by inference Paul would be right in returning his questionable donations. And donations from Fascists ARE questionable.
I do not want a President who attains to the office of Theologian in Chief. Such danger does not reside in the person of Ron Paul, but it might reside in a candidate who uses his particular faith explicitly as a reason to be elected.
Neither do I want a Theologian in Chief. And while I recognize such a danger doesn't reside in Ron Paul, many other questionable beliefs do, and I thoroughly reject his candidacy. In fact, I would still reject his candidacy should he be the most honest, straightforward, conservative individual who was pro-WOT and in favor of proactive handling of that war as the Bush administration is; as long as he continues to accept donations from Fascists. THAT is despicable.
