Bill Shaheen quits Clinton campaign: Clinton Camp Panic?
Union Leader - NH ^ | 12.13.07 | JOHN DISTASO

Posted on 12/13/2007 1:23:48 PM PST by rface

Bill Shaheen has resigned as a co-chair of Hillary Clinton’s state campaign, UnionLeader.com has learned.

Shaheen last night apologized for telling a reporter that if Barack Obama becomes the Democratic presidential nominee, Republicans will use his admitted past drug use against him. Clinton this morning personally apologized to Obama in Shaheen’s remarks. The two candidates reportedly met at Reagan National Airport in Washington.

In a statement given to UnionLeader.com moments ago, Shaheen said, “I would like to reiterate that I deeply regret my comments yesterday and say again that they were in no way authorized by Senator Clinton or the Clinton campaign. Senator Clinton has been running a positive campaign focused on the issues that matter to America’s families. She is the best qualified to be the next President of the United States because she can lead starting on day one. I made a mistake and in light of what happened, I have made the personal decision that I will step down as the Co-Chair of the Hillary for President campaign. This election is too important and we must all get back to electing the best qualified candidate who has the record of making change happen in this country. That candidate is Hillary Clinton.”

Shaheen had told the Washington Post, “The Republicans are not going to give up without a fight, and one of the things they’re certainly going to jump on is his drug use.”

Shaheen said Obama has invited further questions by being so open on the topic.“It’ll be, ‘When was the last time? Did you ever give drugs to anyone? Did you sell them to anyone?’” Shaheen said. “There are so many openings for Republican dirty tricks. It’s hard to overcome.”

Obama campaign officials said the comments were part of a negative pattern employed by the Clinton campaign, which, they said, has become desperate as the Democratic races in New Hampshire and first-caucus state Iowa have tightened.

They don’t want to be seen as attacking Obama. Makes them look panicky. So they’re panicking over looking panicky.

Let’s see how long it takes before Shaheen has an ‘Arkansas accident’.

“in no way authorized by senator Clinton.”

Huh? Is senator Clinton running this campaign or not? It seems that every time some gaff is acknowledged, senator Clinton knew nothing about it. Huh?

How weird.

I could’ve told him the drug use thing would be a problem months ago.

You’re absolutely right. I’ve been saying for a long time that the Clinton’s will turn on anyone and even Hillary’s people are starting to see it now. Just think what will happen to all those supporters if she were to be elected President of this country. Those that thought they were her friends will find out that when Hillary becomes queen, they will be out in the cold. Hillary has no loyaltys except to herself and desire for power.

I do not think the alleged drug use will hurt Obama. I really don’t. Not after the Clinton presidency.

“THEY WEREN’T APPROVED BY ME - I EVEN FIRED THE GUY TO PROVE IT” - that’s typically how the Clintons play the game.

Except that the game is up since everyone knows their game plan. It is also well known the beast is a control freak and her claim she knew nothing will fall flat.

The environment which allows missteps such as this is the product of Hillary herself. In Hillary’s mind, the end(Hillary’s victory) justifies the means(dirty tricks).

Hillary is brilliant!

She gets to place the Obama drug use item on the table, it's now there, the media has to and will respond to it for the rest of the campaign, she got it linked to the Republican party...i.e. "they (the Republicans will use this against Obama...") and it only cost her 1 political operative...and she gets to come out and make a grand statement about running a clean campaign...from now on.

The woman is genius!!

According to you then, a drug user, a rapist, serial molester, liar marketer of White House bedrooms are all acceptable for the presidency?

Political operatives with the Clintons have short careers.

Dollars to donuts he'll get a nice plum job when Clinton is president. Ambassador to Malta or American consul in Aruba.

Hey Hillary, while we’re on the subject; ‘Have you ever used drugs for recreational purposes? When was the last time? Did you ever give drugs to anyone? Did you sell them to anyone?’”

She’s right. Drugs, rape, serial molestation etc didn’t hurt Clinton.

Why? Due to massive air cover by the MSM. Not because drugs, rape and serial molestation are somehow acceptable.

“It seems that every time some gaff is acknowledged, senator Clinton knew nothing about it. Huh?”

And if any of her opponents were smart they would question how she expects to know what’s going on in a COUNTRY when she doesn’t know what’s going on in her group of (200?) people.

Really, has this chick EVER admitted to knowing about ANYTHING? WTH does she know?

I could probably agree with you pretty well, but you should have seen the focus group on FoxNews after the debate today.

The question was, fair game or dirty politics? Everyone raised their hands for dirty politics. And the impression I got, was that Hillary was the focus of their disapproval.

That group’s opinions were brutal to the Clinton effort.

Sununu Jr. should make hay out of his opponent’s husband’s bad behavior.

You are right, Bill Shaheen is the former Governor of NH and is running against one of the best U.S. Senators this country has. As Gov Shaheen was a pandering Liberal, as Sen. she would help to shred the Constitution.
