Bill Shaheen quits Clinton campaign: Clinton Camp Panic?
Union Leader - NH ^ | 12.13.07 | JOHN DISTASO

Posted on 12/13/2007 1:23:48 PM PST by rface

Bill Shaheen has resigned as a co-chair of Hillary Clinton’s state campaign, UnionLeader.com has learned.

Shaheen last night apologized for telling a reporter that if Barack Obama becomes the Democratic presidential nominee, Republicans will use his admitted past drug use against him. Clinton this morning personally apologized to Obama in Shaheen’s remarks. The two candidates reportedly met at Reagan National Airport in Washington.

In a statement given to UnionLeader.com moments ago, Shaheen said, “I would like to reiterate that I deeply regret my comments yesterday and say again that they were in no way authorized by Senator Clinton or the Clinton campaign. Senator Clinton has been running a positive campaign focused on the issues that matter to America’s families. She is the best qualified to be the next President of the United States because she can lead starting on day one. I made a mistake and in light of what happened, I have made the personal decision that I will step down as the Co-Chair of the Hillary for President campaign. This election is too important and we must all get back to electing the best qualified candidate who has the record of making change happen in this country. That candidate is Hillary Clinton.”

Shaheen had told the Washington Post, “The Republicans are not going to give up without a fight, and one of the things they’re certainly going to jump on is his drug use.”

Shaheen said Obama has invited further questions by being so open on the topic.“It’ll be, ‘When was the last time? Did you ever give drugs to anyone? Did you sell them to anyone?’” Shaheen said. “There are so many openings for Republican dirty tricks. It’s hard to overcome.”

Obama campaign officials said the comments were part of a negative pattern employed by the Clinton campaign, which, they said, has become desperate as the Democratic races in New Hampshire and first-caucus state Iowa have tightened.

Sounds just like Hillary. “You get out there NOW and apologize for this!” After the apology, “Bill, I don’t see a place for you here anymore...”

Yuck.

Sununu Jr. should make hay out of his opponent’s husband’s bad behavior.

Didn’t take them long to throw him under the bus.

Political operatives with the Clintons have short careers. Sometimes it's a suicide that ends the career. Sometimes it is public humiliation. Sometimes it's an utter lack of loyalty or forgiveness. Sometimes it's a session with Bill in a hotel room or a White House corridor.

The thing about working for a Clinton is that your head is always on the block for such time as your sacrifice may be deemed necessary, and this includes the use of staff personnel for the gratification of carnal impulses. It must make for a fairly stressful work environment.

he probably saw Hillary plumetting in NH and, in an act of desperation, decided to attack in a way that has hurt Clinton Inc.

I disagree. We already knew there was going to be some changes made before this week, and I think he was on his way out, and either he was asked, or he took the initiative, to take a parting shot. His comments were so loaded, that I think they were calculated to do a lot of damage to Obama while at the same time giving Hillary a free pass since she can say “THEY WEREN’T APPROVED BY ME - I EVEN FIRED THE GUY TO PROVE IT” - that’s typically how the Clintons play the game.

The Clintons are just the same as they ever were. They’ve left a trail of dead and not so dead bodies everywhere they’ve gone. What’s one more person falling on their sword to cover for Clinton policy? This is a big snoozer. I give it hours before the media has moved on and Hillary is exoneratef for any complicity in the drug allegations.

Job done. It just didn’t work. How about that Hillary? You’re slipping. This isn’t Arkansas and your husband isn’t President. It’s your rep on the line, and shrill doesn’t sell.

The after debate group focus on FoxNews was horrid, if you were a Hilary supporter. They heavily favored Obama and ripped Hilary up one side and down the other.

This entire staged resignation gave the Hillary people an opportunity to air all this dirty laundry AGAIN.

They are probably giving each other "high fives" for pulling this whole scenario off.
