Wittman Heading To Landslide Win In Va. Special Election
CBS News ^ | Dec 11, 2007 | Josh Kraushaar

Posted on 12/11/2007 6:01:08 PM PST by saganite

The Politico) GOP state Del. Rob Wittman is heading to a landslide victory over Iraq war veteran Phil Forgit (D) in today's Virginia special election to succeed the late Rep. Jo Ann Davis (R-Va).

With 67 percent of precincts reporting, Wittman has won 63 percent of the vote, while Forgit has only tallied 35 percent. Most of the outstanding vote is from Republican-heavy parts of the district, making it all-but-impossible for Forgit to close the gap.

Neither party’s congressional campaign committee spent much money in the district, but the NRCC had spent money to produce a campaign ad, which they never aired. Instead, all the attention has been in northwest Ohio, where a much-closer special election also took place today.

The district has been reliably Republican, giving President Bush 60 percent of the vote in 2004. But even conservative parts of the Old Dominion have trended in a Democratic direction recently, and Gov. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and former governor Mark Warner campaigned alongside Forgit over the last week.

Meanwhile, House Minority Leader John Boehner said that, if Wittman was elected, he would work to secure him a spot on the coveted House Armed Services Committee.

Expect excuses galore from the Lamestream Media and Demo apologists everywhere. GOP wins will not be permitted in the 2007-2008 Election Cycle! The HildaBeast is INEVITABLE and stories to the contrary will not be permitted!

Isn’t this a very strong republican district? Not much chance of a donkey winning in this district.

Yes, very much so. Hard to draw any grand nationwide conclusions from it.

No, not really. I think that’s why neither side spent much money here. The extent of the victory is noteworthy though. The Dem candidate had two big time Dems campaign for him and still had his butt handed to him. The article also mentions that the heavily Republican districts are the ones yet to report so the margin should increase.

Well good. The truncated poll hours made it impossible for me to vote in this one, but Wittman’s who I wanted to win.

Whitman has 62.15% of the vote to Forgit's 35.94% with 208 out of 210 precincts reporting. The fat lady has sung. And it is very good news. It will help puncture the recent Dem hubris prior to 2008.

Ohio Secy of State site shows a GOP lead in that special election about 55%-45%. Looked like 40K votes in. Hard to get a percentage votes in estimate because it is a special and historical numbers don’t work.
