I saw that Coca-Cola is promoting the movie [<a href="http://zenit.org/article-21008?l=english">What Every Parent Should Know About "The Golden Compass"</a>], and I wrote to them to express my feelings about it -- including mentioning that the villains are called "The Magisterium" in the movie.
Here is the response I got: "We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your concerns.
"The Golden Compass movie is a story about friendship, love, loyalty, tolerance, courage and responsibility. This movie also provides an opportunity for Coca-Cola to help raise awareness about climate change and the perilous state of the polar bear.
"We do not believe that this fantasy movie is an attack on any religion. We would never support a film that intentionally antagonized or condemned any faith."
If they receive more letters about this, it's possible it may accomplish something.
They have as much as the parents let them have.
Discussion works wonders.
>>Me, I fear no movie<<
I only fear really bad, really hyped movies.
This is one of them. My nephew manages a theater in Cleveland, you should see them amount of points he is getting from New Line to promote it. (points = free gifts)
After I told him of the reviews today, he said he was going to take down the promos. He can push better movies and end up with more rewards.
That is the point of this. I’m Catholic, I’m not scared at all because the thing is so rank, I don’t have to be.
Anton LeVay was public about being an atheist too.
“To claim that the trilogy is not anti-Christian is dishonest at worst, disingenuous at best.”
I didn’t claim that. I did say they were not pro-Satanism.
The less it brings in at the box office, the greater chance it’ll run around the clock on cable to make up any shortfall.
It isn’t secular. It is atheist. The religion of the “there is no god”.
It is legitimate for a corporation to seek to maximize exposure/profits.
They deny there is any anti-Christian message associated with the work.
They don’t have the ****s to stake their flag in the campground of the filmmakers.
They only pay once for it to run on a movie station for a month. The way the contracts work, they can run it as many times as they want during a certain period.
If this movie is as bad as everyone is saying, it’s just a placeholder on HBO or Showtime.
That doesn’t mean that New Line is making money off it. Especially when it cost 200+ million to make.
They are even saying that the Europeans don’t want to see it. It will bomb. Works for me.
I’ll see Enchanted again or sit at home and watch Hairspray. And like I said, I could see this flick for free.
“Satanism begins with atheism” — Anton LaVey

And it’s perfectly appropriate for us to make note of it and to change our purchasing habits accordingly.
I don’t know.
I cannot suspend my disbelief nearly enough to imagine carnivorous bears drinking carbonated soda in the Arctic.
But you’re right - seals ARE cuter. I bet they like Cheerwine, though.
Since she is an “ex”, you must have both had problems with each other’s point of view!
“The author thought (and hollyweird thinks) they can duplicate Narnia with an anti-god message if they have all the right parts and special effects.”
And there are foolish Freepers and Catholics that don’t understand what this battle is all about.
I wouldn’t go to see that anti-God movie if they paid me $1,000.

ETCETERA AD NAUSEAM.
The Bible says there are “Fake” Christian Girlfriends....
Me, I fear no movie.
You miss the point.
You are an Adult, and You can see that it is fantasy.
a Child ( who are the Main Target of this Athiest Author)
will have this Anti-God Message “Implanted” in their impressionable Minds.
It will only take a generation or two that have had God stripped from every place in Culture for America to slip into the Amoral Abyss.... that is the Point.
“- In Japan, Toyota will run a tie-in partnership to launch their
new family car NOVA.”
What the hay?
So how does Toyota tie this in with “The Golden Compass”?
“Driving our new NOVA is like being in a parallel universe!”
“Our car is as strong and fast as one of those big old Golden Compass
Polar Bears, and you don’t have to find seals to feed it! How environmentally friendly!”
Maybe something has been lost in translation.
Or I just don’t get their version in Engrish.

(WARNING: some Engrish slogans are naughty, or at least they sound naughty)
I agree 100%. A person can make buying decisions based on any criteria that are meaningful to him.
I always buy generic diet cola, because it's cheaper :-). No advertising cost, for one thing!
