Some, like the Catholic League, are saying Golden Compass is a $182 million movie project with an anti-religious message for kids
Note: Nicole Kidman is a Catholic and claims she doesn't think it to be anti-Christian...

Then she hasn’t read the trilogy. Or doesn’t understand her faith. Or both.

Based on the reviews I’ve read, the movie doesn’t carry forward the anti-Catholic bias that is in the books. If she just read the script, it may have seemed like a completely innocent fantasy.

And I would guess too that her career is taking a dive. Her last six or seven ‘projects’ have tanked.

For anyone wanting to read more about this from a Christian perspective, Shedding Light on His Dark Materials by Kurt Bruner and Jim Ware is a good read. Both of these guys work at Focus on the Family.

I heard that too. But if they continue to film the trilogy, then it will be hard to do without the anti-Christian message. The last book is so dogmatically anti-Christian that it got in his way of writing a good story. The man absolutely hates Christians. And C. S. Lewis. His story starts in a wardrobe for a purpose.

What’s the difference if a movie has an atheist message? Or a Christian message? Lets all get off of our high horses and use our heads. If you don’t like what’s on TV, turn the channel. You don’t like a movie, don’t go see it. Stop being such a busy body, mind your business and allow me to live my life as long as I’m allowing you to live yours.
To: mnehrling
Fair point. Someone may have removed the objectionable stuff before it got into film.

I don’t find her to be even mildly attractive. Too white, and a heavy smoker to boot. It’s a real turnoff.

It’s a free country. Hollywood can produce and distribute the movie, and movie theaters can play it if they wish. On the other hand, I’ve got freedom of association and freedom of speech, do I don’t have to go see it and I can tell everybody what a piece of trash it is and convince them to not go see it.

I an not sure when he ‘converted’ but Tommy was Catholic as a child, and I believe attended some sort of Seminary (high school maybe?) Both his mom and his sister also look for Thetans...

Making it even more dangerous to the faith of the children...
Oh, what a cool movie, I think I’ll read the books (that my parents haven’t read)!
