Returning to the airwaves this morning after a seven-month exile, Don Imus seemed intent on demonstrating two things. First, that he was unequivocally contrite concerning the comments he had made about the Rutgers University women's basketball players that resulted in his firing. Second, his contrition notwithstanding, he wasn't going to change his irreverent ways when it came to the country's political leaders.
To prove his iconoclastic bona fides, Imus concluded his monologue by observing "Dick Cheney is still a war criminal, and Hillary Clinton is still Satan."
Listen to audio here [with apologies for the mediocre sound quality.]
But before ending on that defiant note, he took several minutes to describe his meeting with the women of the Rutgers team, and the way the entire experience had changed him.
Excerpts from Imus's remarks:

He does look more cadaverous than usual. You’d think he’d have gotten some sun down in NM...
It was worse than I ever could have imagined. He acted like someone suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.
I had to get away from Ron Kubie about a year ago. Try KRLA - Bill Bennett 6 AM - 9 AM followed by Laura Ingraham 9 AM - N00n
Assuming you can take Mr. Imus at his word, it appears that his surrender to political correctness is worse than absolute, it is messianic. He not only proposes to censor himself but he declares that he will censor others. The victory of political correctness over free speech is complete.
Contrary to what most other posters of this thread have been saying about the quality of Imus' program, I have felt that it was only its edginess which made it even remotely interesting and now he appears to have had that beaten out of him.
Al Sharpton has succeeded in laying down a very sour marker against free speech, against ribald humor, and in support of the chilling effect of political correctness. We are all losers for it.
Maybe if I was still in High School.
Imus butt kissed Sharpton this morning.
I’ve been listening for about 15 minutes. It’s abysmal. Imus has effectively been neutered. He will not go after any of his former “close friends,” i.e. Russert, Matthews, Gregory, et al, who turned completely against him. Instead, he will probably embrace them and continue to give them a forum for their liberal pablum.
Meanwhile, he is still exchanging hilarious (cough, cough) bon mots with Chuck McCord and doing the same old lame Bill Clinton/Dr. Phil imitation interviews. Also, his young nurse...uh bride, Dierdre, is now on talking about what a good person she is.
Unlistenable.
it will be interesting to see if all the high powered politicos are still willing to appear on his show...
This is the only published pic that we ever get to see of the ol’I-man. It dates at least back to the “nappy hoes” flap.
Kinda makes ya wonder, if they can’t come up with a recent pic of the guy, and he looks pretty darn tired in this, what does the ol’ cowboy look like today?? Hmmm?
In deference to our 'citizens' from south of the border, we spell that jo mo.
How can anybody listen to that mumbling marblemouth?
Been listening since 6.
He said the CNN Plantbate was good questions but didn’t challenge McLame’s valid points.
Sing with me: “Still the Same Jackass After All These Months”.
Beat me to it. Don’t know why anyone would listen to this senile old fart.
“”Dick Cheney is still a war criminal, and Hillary Clinton is still Satan.””
I understand the Hildebeast part, but what has Dick Cheney done to rate such an accusation?
Hey! Why you dissing Clutch?!
Did he throw Bernard under the bus?
