The Talk Shows
Sunday, December 2nd, 2007
Guests to be interviewed today on major television talk shows:
FOX NEWS SUNDAY (Fox Network): Karl Rove, former adviser to President Bush; Rep. Chris Van Hollen, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee; Fred Smith, chairman and chief executive of FedEx Corp.
MEET THE PRESS (NBC): Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va.
FACE THE NATION (CBS): Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.; David Axelrod, strategist for Barack Obama's presidential campaign; Howard Wolfson, communications director for Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign.
THIS WEEK (ABC): Former Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark.; musician Steven Van Zandt, founder of the Rock and Roll Forever Foundation.
LATE EDITION (CNN) : Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas; Sens. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Arlen Specter, R-Pa.; Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno, commander of Multinational Corps in Iraq.
Webb apparantly demanded that he be allowed to talk without interruption and Timmy agreed.
Nina not bad for a leftie, would prefer Sheena Easton though.
Some FReepers contend that the ratings are in direct correlation to the guests; a weak guest brings down the ratings and a strong guest lifts them.
Yet here we have MTP going up; 2 weeks ago they had their 60-year navel gazing, back-slapping self-stroking anniversary show and last week that had on the Carville/Maitlan duo with more “journalists”. No real guest to speak of these past few weeks and their ratings go up.
Fox Sunday had, of course, Fred Thompson last week, you can attribute their 416K raise to him I suppose.
Sometimes I wonder if the ratings aren’t also dependent on other factors. Some intangibles such as what channel people had on the night before, whether it was a long weekend/holiday (Thanksgiving last week), if they’re really watching or have it on in the background, etc, etc.
I must say, frankly, that I wish Tim Russert nothing but bad luck and failure, so perhaps it only disturbs me because his show appears to be doing well. Dang.
Chris Wallace lost control of the heated Rove v Hollen matchup.
I heard that. Did he suggest the Post was always pro war?
You coulda fooled me. Who knew?
probably caused Webb promised Tim he would repeat the act in his book w/ Tim....................ouch
Timmy: Every dem in the Senate voted against funding the war in Iraq except Joe Biden.
(I think he means Joe Lieberman.)
Another yes or no question to Webb and he is just refusing to answer.
Jim Webb, NUANCE is your middle name.
TW
Steff had Huckabee stumbling and fumbling around his talking points on illegals.
I think he was trying to convince absolutely everyone that the WAPO had always been for this war. He is really not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Your post is what I thought of immediately on hearing the news on Friday. I was at the barber shop, and many folks there were expressing the same thought.
If not planned, the media sure jumped on the story as a way to pump her up, in my opinion.
Rove is trying to show GOP candidates how to go on offense.
Webb loves to hear himself. He looks like the little red headed teacher’s pet, only child, pampered by older parents who love to listen to him all the while thinking “what a smart little boy we have”
Webb cannot be pinned down. Weak man.
I'm not blaming him for breaking--almost everyone does and I'm sure I would too. Also, I admire his honesty in admitting it back then.
I don't know current official military policy, but I've heard that sometimes the best you can do is hold off telling anything at least long enough that what you spill will be of less help to the enemy and less hurt to your brothers in arms.
What had me yelling at the TV was this guy who admitted he broke is now telling us that torture doesn't work and nobody called him out on it. I guess nobody wants to be the one to "attack" the poor old tortured guy even if he's lying.
FTR IMO water boarding is NOT torture as it leaves no permanent damage and apparently it works even faster than torture, thus making the info we get more likely to be timely and useful. Yet the hero says don't use it even to save our own troops.
I want to see somebody say to him, "Did you or did you not break under torture in VN, and if so, how can you say it doesn't work?" It's a simple question, not an attack and it needs to be publically asked.
Well, AB, as I mentioned, there seem to be some hiccups in the ratings as well. Three weeks ago on Veteran’s Day, the ratings all went down about 300,000 for each show without any real explanation. There’s probably something to be said about Nielsen’s methods, which don’t always give consistent results.
I think his toupee is the best thing he has going.
this fool just babbles....not one specific answer to fat Timmy
Where are you at that you get This Week so early?
Webb: It’s not in the interests of the US to have a large military presence in Iraq. (Don’t put this guy in charge of anything!)
