The old saying is "in Italy, everyone follows the Church, one half with a candle, the other half with a club."

Southern Italy (where mine and Rudy's maternal ancestors hail from) is historically one of the most anti-clerical regions in all of Europe. The Irish and Germans were shocked when they saw the southern Italian immigrants whose menfolk didn't go to Church and whose womenfolk continued quasi-pagan practices.

There is a good reason why, in the old northern cities, that the Italian Church is usually smaller than the Irish, German, or Polish Churches.

No, not wrong.

However you can argue that “people who died on 9-11 have absolutely NOTHING to do with Rudy Giuliani” or “Rudy has exploited 9-11 for his own benefit” — I would agree or disagree to varying degrees with either one.

My quarrel was with the original post, not with people disliking Rudy. I’m not overly thrilled with him because I don’t necessarily think that good leadership as mayor of NYC would translate into being a good president.

But the level of anti-Rudy derangement on FR is disgusting.
