Why has Mike Huckabee turned to something akin to the plague by some on FR?
FR postings | November 28, 2007 | Dane

Posted on 11/28/2007 1:52:17 PM PST by Dane

It's amazing, Mike Huckabee is one of the few politicians who would give the time of day to FR,

Gov. Huckabee's Thank you Letter to FReeper

and yet by some on FR they in mindless hyperbolic posts basically compare him to the plague.

JMO, some FReepers prove the axioms of "fair weather friends" and "no good deed goes unpunished" and also "watch your back", very true.

Dane likes Huckster— that’s how I know he’s an open borders POS. I would vote Hillary before Huckster

Oh yeah! Well, I would vote for

before I'd vote for

(BTW, where did she get those puppies!)

That’s ok, you support a RINO and think he’s a conservative.

Therefore we know how to assess your “opinion” there Michael...

It leaves you with the inevitable realization that Duncan Hunter is the one man in this entire race with all the right stuff. Plus, no baggage.

Now, if you look at all the responses in this thread, about a third are comments on Paris Hilton and her fake chest. What does that tell you about our “conservative” focus?
People need to pay attention to this race now because Dane started this thread to ask what was wrong with Huckabee. My answer is everything. Call it gut reaction or woman’s intuition, there is something so not right about Huckabee. It’s like he calculates every single word. I can’t even clearly define it, but he is just plain wrong. And people are going to get fooled by him. PAY ATTENTION. HUCKSTER IS NO CONSERVATIVE.

Funny coming from somebody who uses every opportunity to bad mouth a ACU 100% rated Republican, Tom Tancredo. Youre a hypocrite.

How is he on the War on Terror? If he isn’t strong on that, he is NOTHING like President Bush.

Well why didn't you show him out the door at the FR gatherings.
This comment makes no sense at all. Not supporting someone for president isn't the same as kicking them out of a gathering.

I'm sure he's a likeable enough guy in person. For that matter, Bill Clinton probably is too. But I don't want either of them as POTUS.

A combination of things has changed my mind, one key one being the “hyperbolic posts” you mentioned from supporters of other candidates that can’t deal with Huckabee pulling votes from their particular icon. I’m now declaring that I’m going to back Governor Huckabee. You juvenile acting supporters of other candidates that get way too over the edge in your posts pushed me towards Huckabee.

Sola, I just implore you to reconsider. I think Huckabee will be a very poor choice that will split the GOP in the long run and possibly even the short run. He is certainly well-spoken and charismatic, but unfortunately wrong (in my opinion) on these other issues you are dismissing as not that important to you. Why compromise on these other issues when you don't have to?

If Paul Revere acted like Corsi he would have ridden thru Boston yelling that aliens from Roswell, New Mexico were invading.

So basically it is a race issue to you, Huckabee's reaching out to hispanics, nullifies his pro-life and pro-2nd amendment stands, which BTW, many hispanics agree with.

DING! DING! DING! We have a Dane Race Card sighting!

Please learn the meaning of this word: ILLEGAL. Those who base their business models on hiring ILLEGAL immigrants are doing something ILLEGAL. Those Governors who propose giving benefits to people here ILLEGALLY are encouraging and abetting ILLEGAL acts. American taxpayers are tired of supporting ILLEGAL residents, who use public services ILLEGALLY.

Trying to tar those who oppose ILLEGALITY with the racist label won't work anymore. That deck of cards is tattered and we can spot it when you are dealing from the bottom of it.

Dane, I appreciate Huckabee's morals. I have nothing against him personally. He's just not my cup of tea, that's all. I'm a conservative with a libertarian streak. Limited government means staying out of my personal habits and my wallet. It means letting my state decide social issues not some one-size-fits-all approach from Washington.

Huckabee is a nanny-stater, compassionate conservative on steroids. He would split the GOP just as bad as Rudy would drive away the socons, Huckabee would drive away the fiscal conservatives and libertarians.

“however, I have become so emotional that I am leaning towards legalizing all illegal immigrants because I feel sorry for them.”

That’s nice. Why don’t YOU help them, feed them, pay their medical bills, incarceration costs, etc. Do you feel sorry for your 25 fellow American citizens killed every day by them?

Thanks to sionnsar for this great list!

I hope the following 14 reasons are forwarded over and over again until they are read so many times that the reader gets sick of reading them. I have included the URL’s for verification of the following facts.
1. $11 Billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year. http://tinyurl.com/zob77

children, are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0606/12/ldt.01.html
11. During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from Terrorist Countries. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroine and marijuana, crossed into the U. S from the Southern border. Homeland Security Report: http://tinyurl.com/t9sht
12. The National Policy Institute, “estimated that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period.” http://www.nationalpolicyinstitute.org/pdf/deportation.pdf

“LOL! Well why didn’t you show him out the door at the FR gatherings.
You all are amazing, in either backstabbing or just total ignorance.”

There’s no need to be impolite and I would think most Freepers would try and refrain from being rude to a guest. It’s strange that you equate manners with backstabbing. Is that common where you come from?

Travis McGee: “The Huckster never ever mentioned securing the border in his life, until just recently as a candidate when he started taking heat for his long-time pro-amnesty, open borders stance.”

That was why I added the disclaimer after my statement that Huckabee would build the wall. It might be another case like Bush where the wall is built very...very slowly.

I’m not convinced Huckabee will crack down on illegal immigration, his present campaign promises notwithstanding.

The thing to remember about issues like the environment and “mommy” issues is that our attention, the attention of our fellow citizens, and time will always give us better solutions to these problems than government.
