LADSON, S.C. (AP) White House hopeful Fred Thompson called his trip down aisle of rifles, shotguns and pistols at a gun show "a day in paradise," and said he wished he could come back to spend more time and money.
It was the former Tennessee senator and "Law and Order" actor's second trip to a gun show since launching his late bid for the GOP nomination in September.
He reached out and picked up an old M-1 Garand rifle and raised an over-and-under Winchester shotgun suitable for the skeet shooting he's been known to do as he made his way through the 200 vendors at The Land of the Sky Gun Show at a fairgrounds just outside of North Charleston, S.C.
"It's a beautiful day in paradise," Thompson said when greeted by one of the people packing the show's aisles.
Thompson was a hit with James Hill, 65, from Summerville. "It's absolutely important to come to gun shows," Hill said. Thompson, he said, wins his support because he's strong on Second Amendment gun ownership rights. "He's right where our strength is."
Anthony DiPaolo, 22, said he wasn't ready to settle on a presidential candidate yet, but said he'd narrowed his field to three Republicans Thompson, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. "I like Fred Thompson's stance on firearms," he said. "I don't want to see anymore assaults on my Second Amendment rights."
But DiPaolo added that he also liked Giuliani's handling of the terrorist attacks in New York and Romney's "business plan." And, he has doubts about Thompson's ability to win the nomination.
"I just think he got in too late," DiPaolo said.
While mingling with the crowd, someone else mentioned the late entry and Thompson responded that he got in at just the right time.

Sweet.
You would be way wrong there.

And reminder that Fred will be on Fox News Sunday tomorrow with Chris Wallace at 9:00AM Eastern. GO FRED!:)
And just try and take Sniper Kitty's weapon from her.
You are expecting a lot from Mitt fans you see here...
After all they think he is a Conservative...
It’s down hill after that...
You’re welcome. Beautiful butterflies!
I'm glad that you like it :-)
Please feel free to use it if you like....I'm on the prowl for a somewhat more masculine animation that might be more appropriate for an unapologetically male stoat to use :-)
Here's some catnip for the good kitty :-)
(a good sniper kitty deserves a whole garden of catnip)
LOL
Sniper Kitty will love it.
Wouldn't a Thompson / Hunter ticket be fantastic? Not only would they pound Hillary into the ground (metaphorically speaking of course ) but they would send a magnificent signal to the Australian and European Left that America remains on point and refines our focus while they sashay off into the Socialist wilderness.
“Abe Lincoln with a bald head.”
Lord, I hope not.
Lincoln was the initiator of the all-powerful federal gov’t. He bears most of the responsibility for destroying the original federated system of a weak federal gov’t and most of the power residing with the states.
I did say “height-wise.” ;)
Contrast to "can I get me a 'huntin license here?" Kerry.
Anybody with the ability to give even a passing glance in the direction of sanity and coherence would not only vote an emphatic "NO!" to anything that smells vaguely like Kerry, but would bitch-slap him around the block sixteen times if given a chance.
And that's what troubles me greatly....that last election was SO freakin' close, even with an obvious pair of hysterical, Socialist girlie-men like Kerry / Edwards that I am embarrassed to say that I don't have faith in the American electorate anymore. Even if we were able to clone George Washington, Ronald Reagan, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams or any of the Founding Fathers or stellar statesmen from America's past, I don't believe that any of them would be able to get a clear, decisive win anymore. The number of utterly raving, barking moonbats infesting our great land is so voluminous, and their ability to commit election fraud so very easily places our country in great peril regardless of how excellent a candidate we might be able to run.
Fred Thompson would be a WONDERFUL candidate and probably a fantastic President....we would be VERY hard pressed to do better. But it seems that the excellence of the candidate is nearly irrelevant to the electoral process anymore, considering the cognitive dissonance affecting so very many people. "sigh"
Sorry about the rant....I'll go have a cookie and a glass of milk and I'll feel better :-)
Maybe we can catch one of those ACORN buses that takes people from poll to poll to poll to poll so they can vote all day long!
I’ll have to look into that. Glad you mentioned it
Was hoping to see a pic of Mr. Thompson with an EBR...
