(Fred) Thompson Strolls Through S.C. Gun Show ("It's a beautiful day in Paradise")

Thompson Strolls Through S.C. Gun Show

By JIM DAVENPORT – 2 hours ago

LADSON, S.C. (AP) — White House hopeful Fred Thompson called his trip down aisle of rifles, shotguns and pistols at a gun show "a day in paradise," and said he wished he could come back to spend more time and money.

It was the former Tennessee senator and "Law and Order" actor's second trip to a gun show since launching his late bid for the GOP nomination in September.

He reached out and picked up an old M-1 Garand rifle and raised an over-and-under Winchester shotgun suitable for the skeet shooting he's been known to do as he made his way through the 200 vendors at The Land of the Sky Gun Show at a fairgrounds just outside of North Charleston, S.C.

"It's a beautiful day in paradise," Thompson said when greeted by one of the people packing the show's aisles.

Thompson was a hit with James Hill, 65, from Summerville. "It's absolutely important to come to gun shows," Hill said. Thompson, he said, wins his support because he's strong on Second Amendment gun ownership rights. "He's right where our strength is."

Anthony DiPaolo, 22, said he wasn't ready to settle on a presidential candidate yet, but said he'd narrowed his field to three Republicans — Thompson, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. "I like Fred Thompson's stance on firearms," he said. "I don't want to see anymore assaults on my Second Amendment rights."

But DiPaolo added that he also liked Giuliani's handling of the terrorist attacks in New York and Romney's "business plan." And, he has doubts about Thompson's ability to win the nomination.

"I just think he got in too late," DiPaolo said.

While mingling with the crowd, someone else mentioned the late entry and Thompson responded that he got in at just the right time.

Oh yeah. It’s big alright. I just wish it was closer to Puyallup so I wouldn’t spend all my hard earned money at Home Depot 8>)

Well, my devious, furry little mind has come up with a plan.  If you can convince yourself that the selection of items at the Lacey Home Depot is better than at the Puyallup one (or has prettier ladies running the cash registers or has better lighting or better parking or some other essential, tangible benefit) then you can justify going to Lacey for your Home Depot needs. And of course, while you're there, it would make no sense to have made that trip without swinging by Cabela's to see what new items they might have in stock.  And of course when you get to Lacey you should drop by Cabela's first....that way there wouldn't be a worry of running out of cash at Home Depot.....   :-)

THOMPSON-HUNTER 2008

Sweet! I'm in, but I would prefer a Hunter-Thompson ticket. ;) Guess I can't have everything.

I would have appreciated some shots of him holding and commenting on HANDGUNS

It does seem like he thought this out ahead of time. You called it. At least he's thinking, though. :-)

Unlike Kerry, this man looks at home with a shotgun in his hand.

Kerry looks like he would be more at home with a copy of Marx's Das Kapital in his hand....and Edwards looks like he misses his Barbie   :-)

FRED THOMPSON - PRO-LIFE - 2ND AMENDMENT ADVOCATE - SECURE THE BORDERS - FEDERALIST - STRONG NATIONAL SECURITY ADVOCATE - PING!

This is great news. The tide is beginning to turn. Can you feel it? This election could truly be a Conservative victory for our Country. I have faith that Senator Fred Thompson will be our next President of the United States.

Actually, I thought the photo with what appears to be a shotgun (called a “rifle” in the article!?) looks like he’s got his eye closed and his “aiming” the gun. Maybe that’s how they do it for turkey and deer - but I was taught for birds and clay pigeons to keep both eyes open and “point”.

As long as he doesn’t say something like “hunting is a great tradition, and I am all for hunters having guns....”, which, from his record I don’t think will be the case.

Thanks for the link to the M1 Site. What a fine piece it was. Crawl through mud, flush it out with water and it fires reliably. Get a thumb weld to your cheek or come away from the range with a black eye. With bayonet fixed, it is the best balanced rifle for manual of arms drill ever. I believe the Army and Marine drill teams still drill with the M1 (correct me if I am wrong).

How much do you want to bet that Fred himself doesn’t actually own a gun...

LOL.

And if he doesn’t so what?

You must be embarrassed by what Mitt said.

Lifelong hunter. Lie.

Gunowner. Lie.

Lifelong member of the NRA. Since last year.

I’d bet he does.

From the article:

".....and raised an over-and-under Winchester shotgun suitable for the skeet shooting he's been known to do.... "

Hopefully the Romney fans will have a better plan for enlisting undecided voters than by failing to even read the article that they're commenting on, and making silly, irrelevant challenges as well..

“How much do you want to bet that Fred himself doesn’t actually own a gun...”

I’m sure he don’t. I mean as a long time skeet shooter with an anual skeet shoot named in his honor, being good friends with Charlton Heston ( who personally came to Tenn to campaign for him) why would he? /sarc
