Ron Paul: Trouble back home
The Hill ^ | November 14, 2007 | David Hill

Posted on 11/18/2007 6:06:19 AM PST by bilhosty

While Texan Ron Paul’s stock is soaring nationally, there is trouble on the home front. In September, Paul finished third in a straw poll of 1,300 Texas Republican activists who had been delegates to recent Republican conventions.

The congressman corralled just 17 percent of the votes cast, trailing California’s Duncan Hunter with 41 percent.

This outcome says Texas Republicans aren’t terribly concerned about viability. Otherwise, one of the national front-runners like Rudy Giuliani or Mitt Romney would have beaten these long-shots. But if they were willing to “waste” their votes on Hunter, why didn’t most back a fellow Texan? The truth is that Ron Paul, the angry prophet, has little honor in his own land. He’s about to lose his congressional seat.

Looks like Paul may have bitten off to much to chew on this time. I would bet Kucinich would be in similar trouble.

Well isn’t that a kick in the head for L. Ron Paul?

Beaten in his own backyard by the ‘unelectable’ Duncan Hunter.

That speaks volumes right here, it means that Texans recognize the difference between a patriot (Hunter) and a Kook (Paul).

Pinging the ‘humblegunner’, what was that you were saying about not hearing much about Duncan Hunter?

Bon appetit’ ya jamoke.

There’s no honor for Run Paul; he doesn’t honor his fellow Americans. So why would they honor him. He’s a shallow opportunist, especially on the Iraq war.

"Texans recognize the difference between a patriot (Hunter) and a Kook (Paul)."

I think it's going to have to be the border states that get the word out on Hunter.

Who the hell is he to say who's viable? Not one single vote has yet been cast. If people like the message of a candidate such as Duncan Hunter and support and vote for him, he's viable. If they go against their own interests, then they are self-defeating and have no one to blame but themselves by settling for a lesser candidate.

The MSM and their pollsters feed us their line about the alleged massive popularity of Rudy Kazootie every day. They trumpet how Mitt “The Big Flipper” leads in tiny NH, across the line from his former domain of Taxachusetts. But they will ignore the fact that Duncan Hunter leads in the largest predominantly Republican state in the country.

Did you know Ron Paul was a doctor?

And he got a signed photograph of himself and Ronald Reagan?

Ron Reagan, Ron Paul? OMG!

Yesterday we drove from Bullhead City to Phoenix...from Golden Valley to Kingman, there were so many Ron Paul lawn signs I was surprised. In Kingman Proper, getting onto I40E, there was a rally. I guess it was Ron Paul day! It makes sense he would be popular in that area...it’s a weird, weird place to live!

This outfit is running radio ads that state Ron Paul is the only candidate who has ever done anything about illegal immigration. We all know Ron has never done one thing to stop it or secure the borders except recently give it lip service. Duncan Hunter and Tancredo have actually gotten legislation through to fix the mess. Ron Paul has never gotten one piece of his legislation through the process. NOT ONE. And they were’nt about illegal immigration. I hope you will let them know not all of us will buy their lies.

what was that you were saying about not hearing much about Duncan Hunter?

Other than the barely coherent rantings of his disciples here on FR, he's a virtual unknown.

Barney the dinosaur could prevail over Ron Paul, that's no big trick.

So someone who advocates actually following the US Constitution is now a “kook”, while an internationalist is called a “patriot”.

Well that’s interesting.

And disturbing.

Tell me about it. I live in Kingman. “Weird” is an understatement. This area is also the “meth & mullet” capital of the SW.

National publicity has made what seemed suspect obvious. The Texans are letting him know that they now know the real RP.

ROFLMAO! I thought Bullhead held that unique title! Where do you live in Kingman? Did you see the Ron Paul people out yesterday? We just bought a new car there so we've been up there a few times these past few weeks. We do drive up to the Hualapai Mountain Resort several times a year when we want to get away from everything!

Texas, according to the OP. Yes, I know it’s not a poll.

Correction: I know the results are not from a poll of the “sheeple at large,” but of real Republicans. Nevertheless, Texas is the largest state which has regularly gone Republican in recent years.
