Presidential candidate Congressman Duncan Hunter today reaffirmed his long-held position that as President he will not support any legislation that provides drivers licenses for illegal immigrants. In recent weeks, Senator Hillary Clinton has stated that she was both for and against providing drivers licenses to those here illegally, with her latest decision falling on the same day that New York Governor Eliot Spitzer announced that he was abandoning his controversial plan to issue licenses to undocumented immigrants.
"This is not a subject that our political leaders should be going back and forth on," stated Hunter. "All aspects of combating illegal immigration are important, but the ramifications are higher when we are discussing areas where opportunities are actually being created for those illegally in our country to be provided with a form of identification accepted nation wide.
"At tonight's Democratic debate, I expect Senator Clinton to once again state her position on this important issue based on who is in the audience and what they will like to hear. I disagree with that philosophy and I believe it is simply irresponsible. Voters should have a clear understanding where the candidates stand on this important issue. With me, people know where I stand and they know that just as I have always opposed providing driver licenses for illegal immigrants, I will continue to do so as President."
During his 27 years in Congress, Hunter has consistently voted against providing any forms of benefits to those who illegally enter the United States and he is a current cosponsor of two pieces of legislation prohibiting providing drivers licenses to illegal immigrants:
H.Res. 800- a resolution stating that that States should not issue driver's licenses or other government-issued photo identification to aliens who are unlawfully present in the United States.
H.R. 4160- legislation withholding highway funds from those states which issue a driver's license or identification card to illegal aliens.
Hunter has consistently emphasized the need to strictly enforce our immigration laws, rejected all calls for amnesty and is the author of the Secure Fence Act, passed by Congress and signed by President Bush last October, establishing 854 miles of double fence along the smuggling routes of California, Arizona and Texas.
Define 'bunch'. I know I've never discussed abortion about Thompson ever or used such terms. Now, I can show you a 'bunch' that jump on every Duncan Hunter thread with the , WHO?, No way, Can't win, You'll are stupid if you think he can.
Let's see your 'bunch' first.
Look in those ridiculously large attack laden threads on Thompson/Russert. They’re in there. The personal attacks were beyond disgusting.
That’s all we need to hear from a candidate. Not endless verbiage justifying or straddling the fence on the subject.
If doing what is right and supporting a true patriot who served his country honorably in both military and government has become anathema, then I don't know where we go from here.
I just visited Pissant’s profile and it said “This account has been banned or suspended.”
I will write in his name if I have to because it is the right thing to do, regardless of odds or probabilities. I am accountable to God for this, Who does not qualify right and wrong, as is everyone else charged with the weighty duty accompanying citizenship in so great a republic. To ask me to cast my ballot for anything less than what used to be standard in the Republican Party is to ask me to go against my own conscience, and that is something I cannot do.
Cool post.
:)
I agree with you... and I don't see good things for this party. And why should there be? I am a so called "minority," and the ONLY reason I became a "Republican," is because I thought this was the only party that care about values, "moral values," that is...in addition other things like, work hard, be your own person, don't look at the government like you Mom and dad, etc etc etc. But I tell you I don't see many minorities flocking into the Republican party... And I am talking about LEGAL IMMIGRANTS, fairly educated (speak and write in English LOL) who look at the Republican party as "their party," for OBVIOUS reasons I hope I don't have to state :) Not even Asians, who as you know are incredibly industrious and should the new Republicans by definition. The ONLY card the Republican party had to attract those minorities - regular joe's, not the rich ones - of Christian values was the idea that this party stood for those principles. Other than that, WHY IN HECK to be a Republican from their perspective as REGULAR immigrants?...
So if these 'boys' here in FR have not noticed... white Democrats + minorities will soon send the Gop into oblivion as a political force.
And the question now is for us social-conservatives FIRST, what are we to do in this party when our moral values are not shared by the majority of the Republicans? as we see here in FR?
WELL, we could at least start forming a group in a different place where we can communicate when we are banned, if we ever say something bad - more than twice a day :)- about Mr Fred Thompson.
This outfit is running radio ads that state Ron Paul is the only candidate who has ever done anything about illegal immigration. We all know Ron has never done one thing to stop it or secure the borders except recently give it lip service. Duncan Hunter and Tancredo have actually gotten legislation through to fix the mess. Ron Paul has never gotten one piece of his legislation through the process. NOT ONE. And they werent about illegal immigration. I hope you will let them know not all of us will buy their lies.

I’m with you, Lexinom, 100%!
There are others, of course, and they are far worse. But the double standard is what I'm pointing to here not necessarily the content.
Well said, Lexinom.
In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. Said Jefferson.
I also recent Pissant's ban because, being a 'bit' paranoid and with good instincts proven thorough the years I might add, I smell a rat here.
I've seen the boys on the other side dish it out, and they can be vicious too, in their 'sophisticated' ways, but they can be ruthless in getting their points across all right. Some how they look like 'altar-boys.'on this one :). I never thought of Pissant being in the same group, but let's s say that he broke some rules.
IF Pissant has been legitimately banned for breaking some rules, he should be back in couple of weeks and that will be the end of that.
IF ON THE OTHER HAND, this whole thing has been engineered to ban him permanently in other to protect their chosen one Mr Fred Thomson, then the ban should go over for a much longer time like.. after the elections?.... If the ban goes too long it means they fear Pissant's leadership determination and commitment to a candidate of much better quality as Duncan is. The whole idea I would suspect is to shut Duncan down the competition... or at least keep it quiet and nice... real quiet... so that all our attention, and hopefully influence outside opinion as well as to who the only messiah of conservatives is.
I suspect a silent agreement has been made in FR already that Fred is their boy. I also believe that they expected the heavens to open with all the pump and circumstance due a new messiah descending to upon earth once again. It hasn't happened and it will not happen. Politicians must be of the utmost character to be believed by us and I don't know Fred that well other than he is a Hollywood actor and had a career in politics with no apparent distinction as I understand it. He may say all the right things, and throw a bone here and there to social-conservatives, but we'll have to see a lot more before we abandon Duncan.
Matthew 19:26
Duncan Hunter: "I don't need consultants. I write my own speeches. I don't need advice on having people testing the political wind to tell me what positions they think I should take. Most of the major positions I've already taken, and are there for better or worse. I know what I stand for... "
Be sure to vote in the new front page poll on FR.
FREEP THIS POLL!
Will Gov. Eliot Spitzers decision to back off his proposal to issue drivers licenses to illegal immigrants hurt his chances to govern New York state over the next three years?
