Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., will keep the U.S. Senate in session over the Thanksgiving break because he wants to block President Bush from making any recess appointments.
Roll Call is reporting that Sen. Reid inserted a statement into the record Friday stating that he will "hold the Senate in a series of pro forma or nonvoting sessions" to prevent Bush from exercising his appointment power.
Reid said, “While an election year looms, significant progress can still be made on nominations. I am committed to making that progress if the President will meet me halfway.
“But that progress can’t be made if the President seeks controversial recess appointments and fails to make Democratic appointments to important commissions.

Gee thats a relief, I thought for sure he was giving up!
The democratic senate is the biggest waste of taxpayer dollars in the history of our country, IMHO.
Lets see if Ive got it right. President Bush will be in Crawford celebrating Thanksgiving with his family and friends, while Reid will be in Washington D.C. celebrating nothing and being with no one. And Reid's colleagues will be doing the same. Reid is lower than whale sh*t at the bottom of the ocean.

What goes around comes around. When you are two years old, you may not grasp the concept.
He has that right - wrongheaded as it is.
Naw, they all have nice homes in DC and their families will join them there. The good senators would never punish themselves.
If no quorum shows up, then the Senate MUST adjourn, without further action of any kind. Then the decks would be cleared for recess appointments, should the President wish to make any such appointments.
Glad I could be of service.

Congressman Sir, you are a wealth of knowledge, thanks, didn’t know that!!
“.... the Senate MUST adjourn, without further action of any kind. Then the decks would be cleared for recess appointments, should the President wish to make any such appointments.”
They adjourn, but would that qualify as a recess allowing an appointment? Seems as though the President could make an appointment every evening when they adjourned for the day.
Gee....These people have simply scrapped the Constitution!
Is there even any appointments coming up to block? Thought Mucasy(sp) was the only one and he got approved.
He either doesn't understand the Senate rules, which I doubt, or he thinks this ploy will work to accomplish exactly what?
Have the American public feel sorry for them?
Make Bush look like a meanie ?
Even the Media will think him an asshat?
What possible purpose could this serve?

Mr. Reid, history will find that you are a loser... it will NOT take 20+ years to set this fact in granite.
Go away little man
