Money quote:
“But that progress can’t be made if the President seeks controversial recess appointments and fails to make Democratic appointments to important commissions.

The democratic senate is the biggest waste of taxpayer dollars in the history of our country, IMHO.

As I posted on a previous thread:
Lets see if Ive got it right. President Bush will be in Crawford celebrating Thanksgiving with his family and friends, while Reid will be in Washington D.C. celebrating nothing and being with no one. And Reid's colleagues will be doing the same. Reid is lower than whale sh*t at the bottom of the ocean.

The Democrat Congress hasn't passed the appropriations bills necessary to keep the federal government running.

What goes around comes around. When you are two years old, you may not grasp the concept.

Naw, they all have nice homes in DC and their families will join them there. The good senators would never punish themselves.

Anyone who knows the Senate rules, knows how this ploy by Reid can be defeated. Even when the Senate is in a non-voting mode, any Senator can say to the person presiding (there has to be someone presiding), "Mr. President, I suggest the lack of a quorum." At that point, the clerk must call the roll.
If no quorum shows up, then the Senate MUST adjourn, without further action of any kind. Then the decks would be cleared for recess appointments, should the President wish to make any such appointments.
Glad I could be of service.

“.... the Senate MUST adjourn, without further action of any kind. Then the decks would be cleared for recess appointments, should the President wish to make any such appointments.”
They adjourn, but would that qualify as a recess allowing an appointment? Seems as though the President could make an appointment every evening when they adjourned for the day.

Since that is the case Reid is a bigger moron than thought.
He either doesn't understand the Senate rules, which I doubt, or he thinks this ploy will work to accomplish exactly what?
Have the American public feel sorry for them?
Make Bush look like a meanie ?
Even the Media will think him an asshat?
What possible purpose could this serve?

The Senate (or House) is only in recess when it has adjourned sine die (which means “without day”). When a House closes at night, it has already set a schedule for the next working day. But a new schedule can only be set by action of the whole Senate, or by consent between the majority and minority. Neither would apply, under what I suggested.

Reid = a mean spirited, bitter man still stinging from the fact Mr. Bush won two elections the right way (by getting more Electoral college votes than challenger #1 and challenger #2).
Mr. Reid, history will find that you are a loser... it will NOT take 20+ years to set this fact in granite.
Go away little man
