Blacks increasingly less certain about racial progress in America
WASHINGTON - Growing numbers of blacks say they’re worse off than five years ago and don’t expect their lives to improve, a study released Tuesday shows. Black pessimism about racial progress in America, according to the study, is the worst it’s been in more than two decades.
The survey by the Pew Research Center, a Washington-based research organization, paints a mixed picture of race relations following Hurricane Katrina and the Jena Six case, in which six black teens were charged with beating a white student at a high school in the town of Jena, La.
It found that just one in five blacks, or 20 percent, said things were better off for blacks compared with five years ago; that is the smallest percentage since 1983, when 20 percent also made that claim. In-between, the percentage of blacks who said things had gotten better had grown, only to drop back to 20 percent.
Another 29 percent of blacks said things had gotten worse as opposed to staying the same, the largest number since 32 percent made that claim in 1990.
In addition, fewer than half of all blacks, or 44 percent, said they expected their prospects to brighten in the future. That’s down from 57 percent in 1986, during the height of the Reagan administration when the Justice Department actively sought to curtail affirmative action in favor of race-neutral policies.
Whites see black gains
Whites have a different view about black progress, according to the survey. Whites were nearly twice as likely as blacks to see black gains in the past five years. A majority of whites polled, or 56 percent, also said they believed prospects for blacks would improve in the future.

Sorry to rain on everyone’s parade, but blame is blame, and the only nuance here is a black American taking the novel approach of blaming all his/her/their problems on the Democrats rather than the Republicans.
The black community’s plight is its own, solely its own, and no one else’s. It’s not the Republicans’ fault, and it sure as hell isn’t the Democrats’ fault.
The worse cultural and historical disaster EVER to befall the black community is ITSELF and its incompetence in getting anything done: its crime rate, its fatherless households, its lack of interest in education, and bla bla bla.
Anytime I hear any African American blaming anyone but the actual, individual members of its own community for its problems, it gives me the runs.
I am now doing maintenance on industrial packaging equipment at a company that uses a lot of temp workers on the assembly lines. The temp workers are either under-educated and lacking in experience (not necessarily that group's fault in most cases here), welfare moms, hispanics of very questionable origin (the company has 'plausible deniablility' since they are all temps) dope-dealing ghetto boyz, people who's criminal records prevent them from working anywhere else and some miscellaneous other types.
I get along with nearly everyone there and have no qualms with them on a professional (if you can call it that) level so this isn't some angry 'white guy' bullsh*t.
The blacks who work there are in the lower socio-economic strata but don't seem to want for anything. The women get their 'checks', live in their Section 8's, get all the black market DVD's (and God knows what else) they want on the cheap, drive nice cars, never seem to run out of food to bring to work, are mostly overweight, party their asses off and terribly ignorant about the world outside of their BET/Hollywood influenced lives. The 'men' party their asses off, deal dope, drive nice cars and go to the women's Section 8's to watch bootleg DVDs on the Prime-Time Rentals 648" TV, you get the picture.
My honest opinion based on knowing who I know now and being exposed to their lifestyle is that the anger and resentment comes from not being able to 'roll' like those idiots that they idolize in popular media (sorry, not gonna say culture) and it's 'The Man's' fault in some way or another by their twisted way of thinking. Nevermind that the white guy sitting next to them on the assembly line doesn't wear the latest 'urban' fashion (damn I didn't even hit on that one yet) and rides the bus to work and eats from the vending machine because he is paying full rent on an apartment and utilities on line-worker pay alone.
This is what I'm seeing from my perspective.
Sorry if it sounds like I'm stereotyping, but I'm damn close.
The people I'm writing about here are nice people (for the most part), I just think that the lifestyle they lead has evolved from generations of dependency on 'the plantation' so often mentioned on this forum.
There's also personal choice. Their supervisor is a black man who is ex-Navy, educated and a good all-around supervisor who only speaks about 1% ebonics. (I'm not saying this to be a wise-ass, it's just the truth.) He made some personal choices and escaped a life of dependency and crime.
Like I read here on FR once regarding race relations: "It's not the race, it's the culture."
The irony is that in the mid-70s, Jesse sounded a lot like Bill Cosby—or Malcom X without the fascist notes.

This is a capitalist system not a socialist one.
Get off your butts, get educated and make something of yourself.

I wonder how much that plays a part in the results of this study. Many, many blacks are raised with the whole “you’re so oppressed, the white man owes you something” mentality. But today, there are more and more whites willing to push back and not be cowed by the whole “white guilt” shtick, and are willing to endure the “you’re a racist!” comments and say what needs to be said. And what needs to be said is what Cosby, Sowell, Williams, and others have been saying for years, on this topic.

Yes, indeed blacks have a bee in their collective bonnets. It is sad to see the product of social engineering whereby people were promoted by the the color of their skin not the content of their characters. That is racial quotas legislated by guilt-ridden legislators attempting to reverse century-old discrimination. The “Peter Principal” eventually becomes the great equalizer.

Now the black race can be kept down another fifty years to line the pockets of charlatans like the aforementioned.
I understand that less than 7% of all whites in the South owned slaves, yet, most rallied to start a Civil War. Therefore, the only thing one can make sense of, is that more than 93% fought for 'states rights', not slavery.
But they will keep pulling that rat lever. Is the point of this piece that we are in danger of losing our iron grip on our 8% of the Black vote?
They both work in professional positions, have 6 children, 2 are Md's., 1 a dentist, 2 are engineers and the youngest is a systems analyst.

Thats the problem it is not dead and those who profit from it will keep beating that horse till they git one more ride.
Those who profit either politically or financially will keep reminding blacks about it till thats all they think about. Then they look for it and see it wheather it is there or not.
The poster made a valid point, one that has been made here on this forum again and again by many FReepers: The Democrats are in the business of holding people down, yet the people who vote for them continuously fall for their lies.
Want to race to the top of the corporate ladder? Be black and get any kind of graduate degree from Anywhere University and apply to a Fortune 500 company. That’s it.
I grew up in the type of town that outsiders were afraid to drive through. Whenever I met people outside the town, and I would tell them where I was from, their reaction was often a wide-eyed: "You live WHERE? Really? OMG." The eastside of town was largely black, Italian, Spanish-speaking, in that order, and that's where I lived. (I fell in the second group.) The westside was largely white. And both ends of town were equally as scary... lol. (Oh, the stories I could tell...) Here's what I noticed: At both ends of the town, most of the people - white, black, whatever - who created their own problems had a victim mentality.

Maybe if they didn’t spend the last 50 years bitching and moaning about being Black and actually did something with their lives they would not have been relegated to being the nations 2nd largest minority behind the latinos. Now the Mexicans get more attention than them.
