America's (10) Most Murderous Cities
Forbes ^ | 8 November 2007 | David M. Ewalt

...Of course, television doesn't always tell the whole story. The average American is 36 times more likely to die from heart disease than be murdered, six times more likely to die in an accident and four times more likely to die from Alzheimer's disease, according to data compiled by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics.

But homicide does result in many thousands of deaths every year. And a comparison of the 72 American cities with a population over 250,000, using data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting Program, reveals that some places are definitely more murderous...

The ten most murderous cities are discussed in detail but for the record they are:

Cincinnati and St. Louis which are on this list are also on This List of the most affordable places to live.

For one thing, lots of murders leads to low real estate prices.

Read the written thoughts of Noble Laurates Dr. Watson (Phd) and the late Dr. Shockley(Phd.) for their opinions about the source of the situation. They maybe non-persons now and their thoughts could have been erased from view by the MSM.

"...It's important to note that even though some cities may have comparatively high murder rates, crime is, on the average, down in the U.S over the last two decades. Over that period, the homicide rate in the U.S. has fallen from a 1991 peak of 9.8 murders per 100,000 people, to just 5.7 in 2006

Probably just a coincidence.

Lots of vacancies, too.- Great house, fixer upper, some blood spatter.

Everyone knows the real reason, but nobody will say it.

I’d like to know how much money is being poured into these cities from within their counties. Higher amounts than nearer and safer cities?

What is left out of these stories is the recidivism and parole factors. Over half the murders wouldn't have taken place IF only our government would keep these career criminals LOCKED up or excute them.

Nationally the recidivism rate is 68%...this is over a decade old study! It is up 3% from the previous study...it went up during slick willie's time in office.

redidivisim

Reports on the reassert, reconviction, and reincarceration of former inmates who were tracked for 3 years after their release from prisons in 15 States in 1994. The former inmates represent two-thirds of all prisoners released in the United States that year. The report includes prisoner demographic characteristics (gender, race, Hispanic origin, and age), criminal record, types of offenses for which they were imprisoned, the effects of length of stay in prison on likelihood of reassert, and comparisons with a study of prisoners released in 1983.

Highlights include the following:

Released prisoners with the highest reassert rates were robbers (70.2%), burglars (74.0%), larcenists (74.6%), motor vehicle thieves (78.8%), those in prison for possessing or selling stolen property (77.4%), and those in prison for possessing, using, or selling illegal weapons (70.2%).

Within 3 years, 2.5% of released rapists were arrested for another rape, and 1.2% of those who had served time for homicide were arrested for homicide.

The 272,111 offenders discharged in 1994 had accumulated 4.1 million arrest charges before their most recent imprisonment and another 744,000 charges within 3 years of release.

I'm surprised New Orleans made the list if the minimum population requirement is 250,000. Does this count people who live elsewhere but vote by mail?

And Detroit being number 1 must mean that the calculation was done for a year when the Pistons had another playoff celebration. Any statistics on cars burned or overturned?

“In fact MSM functionaries will express their puzzlement that “even though the crime rate has gone down the prison population has risen,” in almost exactly these words.”

The part you are ignoring is that the huge increase in the prison population has been largely due to nonviolent crimes, like possession of marijuana. The problem is that people get thrown in prison for something like that and they become a ward of the state for essentially the rest of the life, as the recidivism rate is incredibly high.

I’m all for locking up violent criminals but the increase in the prison population has taken away alot of potentially (marginally) productive members of society and shaped them into career criminals. We are witnessing the unfortunate fruit of that policy in the black community, as 25% of black males now have a record and the gangsta life is romanticized on TV shows, TV documentaries, and movies about prison.

you would think people would recognize this. Rudy’s NYC turnaround vs. 10 cities run by Dems. it’s one of the most obvious examples of failed policy and yet every year the city folk pull the lever for dems. it’s mind blowing.

It seems like only yesterday that Houston was named the Murder Capital of the World and Houstonians could chant, “We’re Number One” to their heart’s content.

Come on Guys and Gals, Houston can do it again if we all get in there and try.

All you have to do is get the Katrina refugees to do what they did so well in New Orleans.

#6 Mexico: 0.130213 per 1,000 people

This explains why our crime rate is increasing. Thanks for the stats.
